I have to disagree. You have no right to fly or move about freely as you call it. It's a service provided by airliners and as a result the safety measures should rely completely on them. However the government has used tax dollars to bailout the airline industry on several occasions so they have an investment and a stock on it's safety protocol.
The fear of terrorism is irrational IMO and people shouldn't rely on terrorists (government officials) to protect us from terrorists. A person in the USA has a higher chance of dying by a cop in an event related to a victim-less crime than death by terrorist. Given that statistic would shatter if one got a hold of a nuclear weapon but with the kind of money or resources to get a hold of a nuke, no amount of TSA screening is going to save anyone.
Props to your for keeping your cool, I would've been arrested. I won't ever be subjected to TSA for any reason. I'm far too intolerant of actions, even if it leads me into a worse situation. This is why the travel companies lose my business... I will drive if I want to go places! Long ago I was subject to High School Rules about searches, I was suspended a few times, and the TSA goons wont change my mindset beyond, I wont subject myself to them...
