@qizlox I haven't watched this movie since the mid-'90s, but I think the in-movie explanation (and probably real life explanation) is that parachutes are designed to be able to be used by only one person. Besides, even if he did try to hold on, the sudden deceleration would probably be way too much for anybody to hold onto anything.

watch 03.16 and you can see the woman coming near them. and again at 03.20 she comes through the crowd.
