@jumi129 If you have spam in your gmail account then you are failing at something b/c google is VERY good at spam filtering. I haven't received more than 10 pieces of spam in the several years I've had my gmail account.

Also, how is searching for an e-mail address on the web "illegal"? Opt-out from legitimate advertising from sites like ATT, Newegg, etc. WILL take you off of their mailing list.

hm.. a hard question but the harder you name is thes harder it is for spammers to note it.

but now you are popular so its REALLY RARE that you can find a way NOT to get spam.

but if you just check it and mark "spam" and send it to the "spam" map so there is no more to do. I think its the best way.

Email lists are sold by the owners of email list. The reason companies give free email addresses is so the can have a list of email addresses to sell. When you join a site and verify you email address with that site, this is so they can sell a valid email address. A privacy statement DOES NOT mean they can't sell your email address. There are other ways, but I don't want to start a panic.

Jimmy, you didn't mention whether or not it's valid to click on the spam button in web email like yahoo or gmail. I've been under the impression that reporting spam which slips into the inbox assists yahoo and gmail in improving their spam filtering techniques, but what are your thoughts on that? Does that actually help? Or is my chain being yanked again?

Thanks, I use to get about 2 spam emails a day and I would opt-out. Now I get about 75-200 spam emails a day.

Just because goggle ignores the "@" character in search files doesn't mean email collector bots can't look for the @ symbol on websites. Do bots nowadays use google search? In they old days they looked at websites directly.

Secondly if you creatively obfuscate your email address well, very few or perhaps no bot will figure it out regardless.

I learned recently that Gmail has a few extensions, so when I post my email on websites, I put: myEmail+spam@gmail com. But it makes it inconvenient for the people who want to email me because they have to take out the +spam part manually. Now that I think of it, bots can be smart enough to specifically find +spam and replace it with nothing =S..

you can also create filters in gmail. for example if someone annoying keeps emailing you you can make it filter that forwards it back to them and deletes the email.

The first part is useful, the second part I thought would be just common sense. If you get a suspected spam e-mail just don't open it, use the spam filter in your e-mail. Like clicking 'junk' when using MSN Hotmail.

it could be just youtube media server lagging. It could also be the ISP's dns server which makes it beneficial to use opendns. It's meh. I don't use it anymore.

Spammers also use software that randomly generates email addresses. I remember reading an article on this some years ago. The article also mentioned what percentage (on average) of the randomly generated email addresses actually ended up being real ones. It was a tiny number, but considering how many they generate, it still amounts to a large amount of addresses.

myspace has a search where if you know the persons email you can try to find their myspace page. If you know the persons name but not their myspace page yeah. Just add more detail like state and maybe school. -But again myspace has its own search engine thats probably better
