@badboyforlife10195 This series is genuinely about the consequences one deals with when they dont face reality. It covers a variety of topics such as greed, lust, anger, hopelessness, and a bunch of other problems like disorders that really disfunctions an individual as a whole. *SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT* Little slugger, in actuality, isnt a person, but an entity of manifistation that conumes people who deal with paranormal guilt and delusions, thus affecting their lives.
i just finished the series for the first itme and can someone tell me why was maniwa all old at the end writing down formulas? Wasn't there another old man that died that did that?
Satoshi Kon, creator of this series and many other great films died aged 46 on August 24th, 2010. Who knows what he may have been able to achive had he lived.
And with Susumu Hihrasawa composing the soundtrack, it paved the way for Paprika.
And if you thought this show was confusing, watch Satoshi Kon's movies -- "Perfect Blue," "Millenium Actress," "Tokyo Godfathers" and "Paprika." To this day I sitll think "Perfect Blue" is one of the best movies, live or animated, ever made.
en el minuto 0:33 y 1:00 son imagenes de tokyo goldfather la pelicula de satoshi kon, se dan cuenta la parte del fondo donde esta estos 2 personajes, esos don fondos son de tokyo goldfather.
this anime was really confusing at times. but when I finally saw how it ended I was like OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH I get it now. It's kinda like neon genesis evangelion that was a confusing anime too.
Interesting analysis... I thought of it another way: these people are laughing because they've accepted delusions in order to defend their lives. That way, they can stand in the middle of their worst nightmare and laugh, because the delusion protects them from it... Slugger laughs because he IS that harmful delusion, because he gives them a kind of peace, and yet he is not peaceful.
and to further re-force your point, the character later learn that little slugger is merely and escape from their fears, as the chief later says. "there is no place for me in the world anymore, but that the reality I have to face!"
It's because the anime was aired late at night in Japan and it was to wake the viewers up unlike the ending of it which is a soft and slow ending which reminds them to go to sleep.
when i first saw 0:21 i thought someone pushed in out of a plane or something. possibly cuz the plane passengers couldn't stand his constant laughing perhaps?:D jk
The thing about this intro is that all of them are laughing and it gives a strange sense of disconnection from all reality. Like Harumi and Maria. They (kinda) hate each other, yet they stand next to each other laughing together in this intro. And Lil Slugger is laughing, too! It's just like everyone stopped what they were doing and just started laughing hysterically, which is both wonderful and disturbing at the same time.
@TrustMe2202 The point is that they are laughing in places they shouldn't be- Be it at the ledge of a tall building (suicide) or during an atomic bombing, or in the crowd of society, or in wreckage and ruin- The metaphor is that people ignore reality and pretend everything is fine. This becomes very important later, especially with Maromi.
just did some research, the person who did the music for this intro also did the entire soundtrack and also did the soundtrack for the Berserk anime. His name is Susumu Hirasawa, and has also released several albums of his own work (inspired by the band King Crimson, which is weird because I was going to do a Berserk amv with one of their songs O_o). He is also an activist against America's response to 9/11, and released a bunch of free music to support his claims. What a badass.
I completely missed Paranoia Agent when it came to Adult Swim, so I never heard all their voices in English! D: I really wanted to hear Maromi and Tsukiko's only though X3
when paranoia agent was on adult swim (usa) i would always try to watch it but the intro always terrified me because of the scary laughing people. its still kinda creepy.
Generally..One of the best anime story and themes I've ever seen! This Anime was amazing! Mostly though, You can't take the physical representation of Lil Slugger seriously, it is the escape in which all society falls victim to when the mind and material ideal cannot conform! I love this intro..Speaks so well for the theme!
I seriously loved this anime. When I saw the first promo for it on Adult Swim in the U.S I was like , "Man....I gotta check this out."
I saw it the first day the first episode aired and continued to stay up late every week when the new episodes were on. Great anime series , thinking of buying the DVD.
God, this opening seems like something The Joker would think up... this show gave me nightmares of all varieties, first from how damn freaky it was at first, then from how damn existential it became. I didn't want to live anymore for fear that a plush icon would devour reality in it's smoggy clutches.
Is the point of this intro, by showing the people laughing in circumstances where one would not usually be happy, reveals how, throughout our lives, the facade of society hides the unpleasantness of this world? If not then this intro confuses me.
you got it exactly right. I see it as: No matter how much as we try to attempt laughing tragic things off, to try and seem "happy" about what had happened, (that it doesn't bother you) you'll still be upset on the inside and things may get worse.
From what I understand of this anime, and as it's displayed very well in this intro, life can be bad and there will be unchangeable circumstances. But you have to learn to face it and overcome such obstacles, that's how they beat lil Slugger, by facing that which they were afraid of.
lol, my little sister fell asleep while the TV was on and as she was sleeping this show came on, and aparently she had the volume up pretty loud and she woke up to this show with someone screaming and blood all over the place, lol!
Lil Slugger is basically a scapegoat. When someone is under intense stress such as trouble at their home or at work, they are backed into a corner with nowhere to go. From this emotional corner people have two choices. They can either call upon Lil Slugger to help them escape their problems or face their problems head on with strength and courage. Lil Slugger is an escape for people who are not brave enough to face their problems and accept reality for what it is.
good, more ppl need to be like you haha, well fucked up wise, Evangelion is good especialy End of Evangelion, Elfen Lied is pretty fuked up, Serial Experiments Lain is sad, er.... perfect blue was also disturbing from what ive heard. but yea the beauty of these animes is that they are ambigous and they force you to figure things out.
Im in love with this song, it has this weird energetic feel to it. This anime was one of the most oringinal and weird and comes in second in the weird factor (behind FLCL) and second in the mystery factor (behind Death Note.)
This intro scares me, esp. when I'm half asleep at like 3 or 5 in the morning, and I see that on the TV. It's almost has a Ring-like quality. It's like, "WTF is on my screen and why are they laughing?" Paranoia Agent is a good anime.
Youre not alone. It scares the shit out of my little brother and to me it creeps me out. Its pretty good anime but i missed too many episodes, i lsot track on whats going on. Thank god they are starting the series over so i can watch everything.
I don't know more than 3-4 Japanese words, but don't want this song translated. So much is lost in translation. I love humming along with it too! This is such a great show all around!
this is awesome. i think i figured out the symbolism of the flapping clothes. The folks with no flapping are those who are either neutral or torn between good and bad. those flapping every which way are torn back and forth between good/bad, right/wrong or crazy/sane. The chief, who is the hero, is blowing mainly to the right, being "blown" in the "right" or "good" direction.
Im starting watch this, this a great anime. It does cross the lines on violence, gore, and disturbing images. I like this it reflects on society and shoes the true definition of death; it is not pretty.
Yume No Shima Shinen Kouen maigowa sora ni migoto na kinoko no kumo maigowa kono chi de ne wo haru kotori no douhouwa komorebi no shiba ni te wo furete kimi to katarou to kono danchi no benchi no ue de yumewa hanasaku unmei wo sono mune ni yuuutsu wa shizumete ashi wo asu ni nobashi tsunami nado ansuru koto naku maigowa sora ni migoto na kinoko no kumo maigowa kono chi de ne wo karu kotori no douhou maigowa danchi no benchi de sodateta yume maigowa komorebi youbi ni umareta douhou
I love this song, I wonder what it's about/english lyrics. I heard the song before I ever saw the show because I randomly downloaded it and then I finally saw the show.
Maybe everybody has paranoia? Maybe when lil' slugger hits people, it is really them going to the hospital. The reason is unexplained but for some reason, lil' slugger was sent there to help these people get their lives back and stop blaming them selves for everything. Lil' sligger can be nice and bad
if u guys dont no yet, 'lil slugger is not human and is here to end people's lives that are miserable and to set them free to live a better life and more peacful lives. This movie HAS a morale if u guys didnt notice. It's, "Live life, enjoy life. Life does come to an end and you should face it. You should not dislike this but like this. They will not kill you for pleasure, but to make you happy"
damit. u guys are missing the point of the Show intro its telling u a life lesson to embrace ur fear and things happen for a reason and u cant play god and stop it from happining and no one can spoil the show for me cus 1 i saw all the episodes. and im not misintrepreted nothing so ahh god, nvm u guys figure out the show by urselfs..
you really think things over a lot dont you. but i never really thought of it that way. maybe ur right. u dont hav to get all upset though i just said i didnt understand what u said(yeah i'm slow at times but i dont think this was one of those times)
If anything, It tells you that you can't live in the past, and that you should move on. And only one person died in the show. Each person in the show was backed into a corner by a mental or physical problem. That is where lil' slugger came in. He would free people from this stress by making them forget what ailed them most (and he would do that by hitting you with a golden bat). This usually put people in the hospital NOT kill them.
And the intro isn't showing a point, it's just showcasing the characters that were victimized by Lil' Slugger (and Sukiko [sidenote/spoiler: Lil'Slugger is actually the embodiment of a lie taken up by Sukiko's dog, Marumi - yes, the little pink thing is actually a dog to those who didn't know- that was killed by a car whike she was walking him. So in all truth, Lil' Slugger was created by Sukiko.)
I don't think so. Think of it like this: Why is Maniwa falling out of the sky head first? Because he's losing his grip on reality. Why is the little girl (forgot her name.. ^^;) under water? Because she is under pressure because of her father and all. Besides, not all of those characters die.
The girl's name is Toyoko =). By the way, I'm starting to see A LOT about what you're talking about. Tsukiko is on top of the building as a representation of how idolized she is for her work of Maromi.(yet it starts to rain to show her internal sadness of being alone) Harumi Chono + Maria in the garbage disposal place shows the 'night life' switching, with a city being placed in the background displaying the time that both sides try to fight over in the real world. Amazing stuff eh? =D
@venomblade891 The ending just shows you how Maniwa's personality reflected the old mans, they are both just insane..

This intro scares me, esp. when I'm half asleep at like 3 or 5 in the morning, and I see that on the TV. It's almost has a Ring-like quality. It's like, "WTF is on my screen and why are they laughing?" Paranoia Agent is a good anime.

Dream Island Park Obsessional
the lost children are a spectacular mushroom cloud in the sky
the lost children are comrades to the little birds that have infiltrated these lands
touching the sun kissed lawn with their hands
they are trying to speak with you
dreams bloom atop benches in the apartment complex
hold your fate inside your heart
quell your depression
stretch your legs out towards tomorrow
dont worry about things like tidal waves

Maybe everybody has paranoia? Maybe when lil' slugger hits people, it is really them going to the hospital. The reason is unexplained but for some reason, lil' slugger was sent there to help these people get their lives back and stop blaming them selves for everything. Lil' sligger can be nice and bad
Uesegi0 5 years ago
wait a sec.
Uesegi0 5 years ago
if u guys dont no yet, 'lil slugger is not human and is here to end people's lives that are miserable and to set them free to live a better life and more peacful lives. This movie HAS a morale if u guys didnt notice. It's, "Live life, enjoy life. Life does come to an end and you should face it. You should not dislike this but like this. They will not kill you for pleasure, but to make you happy"
Uesegi0 5 years ago

Meh, I can't help but think too much about something. It's been a habit--analyzing things to the max. ^^; But who knows? I'm just theorizing.
CandyCane00 5 years ago
If anything, It tells you that you can't live in the past, and that you should move on. And only one person died in the show. Each person in the show was backed into a corner by a mental or physical problem. That is where lil' slugger came in. He would free people from this stress by making them forget what ailed them most (and he would do that by hitting you with a golden bat). This usually put people in the hospital NOT kill them.
PootyHead 5 years ago
And the intro isn't showing a point, it's just showcasing the characters that were victimized by Lil' Slugger (and Sukiko [sidenote/spoiler: Lil'Slugger is actually the embodiment of a lie taken up by Sukiko's dog, Marumi - yes, the little pink thing is actually a dog to those who didn't know- that was killed by a car whike she was walking him. So in all truth, Lil' Slugger was created by Sukiko.)
PootyHead 5 years ago
No it means that all the peole that were dying had problems so they died to forget them like wat lil slugger does.
taccun 5 years ago
I don't think so. Think of it like this: Why is Maniwa falling out of the sky head first? Because he's losing his grip on reality. Why is the little girl (forgot her name.. ^^;) under water? Because she is under pressure because of her father and all. Besides, not all of those characters die.
CandyCane00 5 years ago
The girl's name is Toyoko =). By the way, I'm starting to see A LOT about what you're talking about. Tsukiko is on top of the building as a representation of how idolized she is for her work of Maromi.(yet it starts to rain to show her internal sadness of being alone) Harumi Chono + Maria in the garbage disposal place shows the 'night life' switching, with a city being placed in the background displaying the time that both sides try to fight over in the real world. Amazing stuff eh? =D

Yeeah! It is amazing, really. Glad I'm not the only one. ;D
