I love this song and Sarah's interpretation of it. But I do get the feeling, from the looks of her hair and her eyes, that there's something strange about this woman; kind of like a fallen angel.
The visuals for this Hail Mary hymn are nothing short of bizarre and border on sacrilege and turn piety into New Age crap. And that is just their intention.
OK, she is not opening her legs in the video as if she were Madonna nor dancing like a sex product like Britney Spears. This is an artistic approach based on parts of Miguel Angelo's art masterpieces. A naked body doesn't necessarily mean SEX or PORN, the human body is beautiful if you don't have a polluted mind. Hundreds of art masterpieces have naked bodies and are not regarded as SEX. Shameful that you have such a limited criteria.

I disagree with angelicbaby92 on only one point: I believe that Sarah Brightman was fully aware of the 'nature' of her costume in this video. Frankly, it isn't totally innocent, and I see no reason for it to be, either. Like you said, a woman's body is a beautiful thing, and every woman has the right to flaunt it a little. I think this video is still fairly tasteful, and I don't see why people expect operatic singers to cover up in stuffy outfits when pop singers can get away with half a napkin.

I can't say I have any idea why Sarah Brightman chose this costume for this particular song, but I suppose it came down to the simple fact that she felt like it. I'm not particularly religious, so for me Ave Maria is more about beautiful music and spirituality in general, but if I were to perform it (not that I can sing, for that matter lol), I'd probably be more modest.

Well, my voice isn't like a croak, or anything, but I just don't sing often. I have a good EAR for tone and pitch, but since I don't practice, I simply can't sustain them. If I practiced everyday, I'd be okay, but I'll never be famous for it, nor do I really want to be. I'm too busy studying to remember to sing.
I'm not Christian, or particularly religious at all. I'm agnostic. I believe in a higher being, or god, if you will, but nothing so specific as Yahweh or Allah, or anything.

I believe that it shows the beauty of the woman. A woman's body isn't supposed to symbolize lustiness, but rather innocence like Adam and Eve. Eve was naked, but it was innocence because she did not have nasty thoughts. Also, since God made people, why should the woman body be considered evil? It's a creation of God and should be considered as beauty. It's only what people do with it that changes it. I think Sarah didn't intend for a lustful nature but an innocent one.

OK, she is not opening her legs in the video as if she were Madonna nor dancing like a sex product like Britney Spears. This is an artistic approach based on parts of Miguel Angelo's art masterpieces. A naked body doesn't necessarily mean SEX or PORN, the human body is beautiful if you don't have a polluted mind. Hundreds of art masterpieces have naked bodies and are not regarded as SEX. Shameful that you have such a limited criteria.

Some of the caps even resemble Botticelli's painting The Birth of Venus. GOD what a lack of knownledge. I cannot believe there's still conservative yet equally ignorant people. Even the priest of my church likes Sarah's music and artistic approach. And if she has sung in the Vatican and made a concert in Vienna's cathedral recently , it's more than obvious she hasn't offended the catholic church at all.

I disagree with angelicbaby92 on only one point: I believe that Sarah Brightman was fully aware of the 'nature' of her costume in this video. Frankly, it isn't totally innocent, and I see no reason for it to be, either. Like you said, a woman's body is a beautiful thing, and every woman has the right to flaunt it a little. I think this video is still fairly tasteful, and I don't see why people expect operatic singers to cover up in stuffy outfits when pop singers can get away with half a napkin.

I don't agree on the double standard with opera singers... they should wear whatever they want, however this song is the Hail Mary prayer, and should be displayed with modesty and respect... she is singing about the mother of God after all.

@blissfuldissonance: I can definitely see your point, that the Hail Mary should perhaps be displayed with modesty. I can't say I have any idea why Sarah Brightman chose this costume for this particular song, but I suppose it came down to the simple fact that she felt like it. I'm not particularly religious, so for me Ave Maria is more about beautiful music and spirituality in general, but if I were to perform it (not that I can sing, for that matter lol), I'd probably be more modest.

I only meant that IF I could sing, and I sang this song, I'd try to be modest, not because I'm Christian (I'm not), but out of respect for the fact that the song is Christian. Sorry for the confusion. :)

Well, my voice isn't like a croak, or anything, but I just don't sing often. I have a good EAR for tone and pitch, but since I don't practice, I simply can't sustain them. If I practiced everyday, I'd be okay, but I'll never be famous for it, nor do I really want to be. I'm too busy studying to remember to sing.
I'm not Christian, or particularly religious at all. I'm agnostic. I believe in a higher being, or god, if you will, but nothing so specific as Yahweh or Allah, or anything.

I believe that it shows the beauty of the woman. A woman's body isn't supposed to symbolize lustiness, but rather innocence like Adam and Eve. Eve was naked, but it was innocence because she did not have nasty thoughts. Also, since God made people, why should the woman body be considered evil? It's a creation of God and should be considered as beauty. It's only what people do with it that changes it. I think Sarah didn't intend for a lustful nature but an innocent one.
