  • John is a master of girls and guitars!!! Go John GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • This song is the most sexy song that Ive known. And I listen to Sade, Barry White and a lot more things

  • man the envelope filter on this song is wicked!! Need to get one of these!!

  • 4 people can't trust themselves with loving John.

  • John Plays so damn clean on Guitar its Crazy! Singing and playin guitar at the same time is no Easy Task! A Truely Gifted musician!

  • hope that guitar is over 21!

  • that harmony at like 5:56 is so sweet.

  • i dont get how hes so clean when he like pulls the strings, maybe thats how your supposed to but i always see strumming, at 2:07 is what im talking about

  • You're a douche if you dislike this

  • Imagine a guitarist influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, who has played with BB King, Eric Clapton, John Scofield and was praised by all. Imagine that the guitarist knows how to mix Blues, Rock, Pop, Pop Rock, Blues Rock and Jazz with extreme competence. Imagined? Now stop imagining and watch this video, he is, his name is John Mayer, the greatest guitarist of modern times!

  • clean voice!! i liked

  • his guitar playing is unbelievable, but vocally this is the best I've ever heard him live.

  • @parkermckinleymyers I agree. He seems to be "warmed" up and has a beautiful range in this video.

  • 8:07 EPIC JUMP LOL

  • >6:32

  • Better then the LA version I think. And thats saying a lot.

  • I love the way he starts this song. especially after a couple beers ;-)

  • I just fell in love.!!!

  • Thank you John Mayer

  • Everything from minute 7:00- 9:10 is pure guitar porn...say what you will about the man, but he is without doubt his own "guitar hero"..

  • @passiej90 I think this is the best comment on youtube.

  • All of his perfomances are so good here, They had to make a DVD of this too.

  • Just sit back and appreciate the amazing music

  • For those who say john Mayer isn't a talented guy you are insane. He is EXTREMELY talented at guitar and any singer that is better in his live performances than he is recorded is truly and amazing artist. Your looking at one of the greats, john Mayer will b playing when our kids havemkids.

  • 2:39

  • Best live performance of this song he has EVER done! He killed it on that stage!

  • I would give both of my legs for that guitar...

  • his best song for sure

i lovee it souinds so goodddddddddd any other song like this one to showme plis?! ty

  • his best song for sure

i lovee it souinds so goodddddddddd

  • Un-freakin' believable. I can't believe how this LIVE performance is played and mixed so well.

  • haha LOVE the jump around 8:00

  • I don't get why people argue over mayer... If Clapton and Buddy can dig this guy enough to play with him, you know hendrix would have eaten this up... Anyone who truly appreciates guitar can AT THE VERY LEAST appreciate what Mayer can do... His songs are such a blast to play and you don't hear any other act on the radio that can play like that... Remember... hendrix and clapton were pop music in their heyday...

  • @leif77 - that's all true! perfectly, i think this way, i've always thought.

  • Yet another John Mayer vid that @scottelliotmusic is bashing.. He's commented on like every single one. Do you have nothing better to do Scott than to comment on vids that u supposedly don't think are good?

  • superb.

  • Thats what sex sounds like.

  • it's songs like these that make me want to be him.

  • im fucking speechless

  • and hence John awoke the next morning feeling on top of the music world. Where he should be. PERIOD.

  • oh man, i bet john mayer has watched this performance afterwards and said: "man was i feeling it that night".

  • holllly shit the women arnt screaming banshees here!!!!!

  • I dont know what it is about 2:42-2:58 but John's riff with the backing track sounds delicious!

  • @TheMarkHoppus182 I agree! Especially when the bass moves onto the F (third note) it compliments John's guitar beautifully, sounds so amazing. I also think what John spiritually puts into this performance is what really makes it though!

  • dorian mode

  • Just the notes that he hits in the intro...EVEN BEFORE THE SONG STARTED...I had to go change my pants. xD

  • What effect is that? damn fits that song really nicely, I might get that pedal just for that. Fukin amazing!

  • @thedonace213

Adrenalin III(or maybe it's II), runs for around $250.

  • Im sure he already does. And come back when over 120,000 people come to see just Mayer in concert. (im not talking festivals, just him and his band)

  • @scottelliottmusic And what does having X amount of fans prove? You've got Bieber with millions of people listening to his music, does that make him more talented than DMB or Mayer? Come on, you've been picking fights with people for months now.

  • @fujiyoshi Spmeone else brought up the number of fans first. I was mearly saying they underestimated how many people listen to DMB. Its not picking a fight if someone decides they dont like my opinion

  • 8.08 ^^

  • Huge John mayer fan, Love the performance , people are going to hate me for saying this but this whole live performance he has auto tune on his mic

  • @JG129

really? i can't hear it at all?

  • @avrajsingh123 Yeah its in there but still its a great performance by an amazing artist. It probably wasn't his choice, Almost all televised performances now have Mics with auto tune on them.

  • SICK intro!!!

  • he just ooozes yummy...just sayin

  • I love the transition from the intro to the actual song. Amazing!

  • The best thing to do if you really like John Mayer is to collect some bootleg material and see him live. Yes, his albums are pretty poppy, straightforward etc. His ability on stage is undeniable though to anyone with functionally correct ears. And I like most of the artists on scottelliottmusic's list too. The great fallacy in thinking here is confusing the cocky public pop John Mayer with his ability to play. A person is not music, nor is music a person.

  • @Passiej90 I agree totally. I knew his name and his hits without being a fan. That changed when my sister bought "Where the light is" and as soon as Neon started I was a huge fan from that point.

  • 8:06 nice!

  • He is extremely talented! I love this version!!!

  • so in love with him

  • Goddammit this is so insanly good...

    CHILLS!

  • what channel was this?

  • It was on PBS

  • i've never seen an artist perform in this manner. This man is feeling the music within every bone in his body and it comes out in his guitar playing and especially his vocals which i notice in this song are also a bit improvised, A true sign that this man is fully engulfed into his music. He is wearing his soul on the outside, Fucking exceptional artist

  • Well said! It's good to know that there's still people out there who recognizes and appreciates real talented musicians:)

  • @blume6546...you should check out some live Dave Matthews or Counting Crows if you want to see really emotional performers. No one alive can put more emotion into singing than Adam Duritz, the man practically breaks down on a regular basis (at least he used to...check out the old pink-pop festival stuff)

  • @scottelliottmusic

John Mayer is on a different level than anyone on this planet..

  • @Mharr1s maybe.... unfortunately for him its not a very impressive level. Everything he does is pretty average. If he hadn't done poppy-crap and chick porn for 4 years, and dated a string of celebrities, no one would care much about the 'real' stuff he does now. hes an average player, and sub-average singer...he barely even sings, you can hear how restrained and in the back of his throuat his voice is...I have never heard him open up and belt ANYTING...his whisper just gets louder.

  • @scottelliottmusic so what would be your idea as an artist who is actually talented? Just curious...

  • @CustomGuns41 , well living and current, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, Chris Duarte, Jack White, Kings of Leon (i hate Use Somebody though..Charmer is their best, or Closer), Trent Reznor, John Frusciante, Dave Grohl(some newer foofighters i dont like), As for some older: the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, the Doors, Mark Knopfler,Leo Kottke, SRV!, Buddy Guy, Bo Diddly, Nat King Cole, Yingwie Malmsteen, Peter Green...the list goes on, but thats a good cross section

  • @CustomGuns41 and I don't think he is un-talented, he just goes the safe rout with teen-pop at first and adult easy-listening now....its just not necessary music to me. He's boring. Untalented and boring are two totally different things. Kenny-G is extremely talented, but come on, would you pay to see him in concert? Thats what John Mayer reminds me of, just on the guitar.

  • @scottelliottmusic oh...I almost forgot about Dave Matthews (anything from Before These Crowded Streets and back) and Counting Crows. Thats what started my comments, someone said they had never seen anyone perform like Mayer with so much emotion, or something like that, so I suggested they check some live Dave or Counting Crows stuff because they put out WAAAAYYYYY more emotion.

  • @scottelliottmusic Counting Crows and Dave Mathews plays alot of pop music but just doesn't reach out to the media like John does. If they did, they would be just as big as Mayer, if not bigger. All im sayin is maybe you need to dig a little deeper, this guy is really talented

  • @robertsfootball74 Well in the 90's they were just as big. And Dave is HUGE even more so these days, he just has a massive following without having to constantly produce radio friendly music. Dave shows are like an event unto themselves. I guarantee more people seen Dave than Mayer. And I have listened to almost everything Mayer has put out, I just dont think there is too much depth to what he does.Hes a pop star who actually plays instrument, so people are amazed.

  • @scottelliottmusic Just face it dude... This is better than DMB has ever done, i'm sorry but you just need to realize it. I know you never will because you think dmb is the greatest thing to ever happened musically..... lol.

  • @Mharr1s no...i dont really think that at all. Just that Dave puts much more into his singing than Mayer could ever hope to and Mayers vocal style is an exact Dave rip-off. Everyone thought No Such Thing was a shitty Dave song at first. And Carter blows this guy away as a drummer.....Same goes for Stefan Lessard on bass. The only thing going on here is that John plays electric. If you want to bring Tim Reynolds into this, Mayer gets owned once again.

  • @scottelliottmusic Come back when Dave gets the respect of Clapton and bb king.

  • @scottelliottmusic dave is amazing, but they're a completely different style. and tim reynolds has nothing on mayer. just sayin. and no such thing doesn't sound like dave at all, and it's a great song.

  • @mastamitchell i would say he has NOTHING on Mayer. I find Reynolds stuff very difficult to play, mainly for the speed and dexterity, esp. on acoustic. Mayer is more a finesse player. What you really hear is his equipment, thats what shapes the sounds he gets. He has some funky chord shapes going on, but his stuff isnt physically that difficult to pull off. His strength is song writing, not really guitar playing.

  • @scottelliottmusic You just made yourself sound like a moron.

  • @Mharr1s thats an interesting point of view

  • @scottelliottmusic Judging from your comments you know what your talking about, unlike most of the people who comment on these things. I also agree with alot of the quality artists that you mentioned. But i can't help but think that you havent really dug deep enough into John Mayers catalog. And what is "necessary" music to you. I like to think that all music is necessary to some people, and that there is really good music and bad music.

  • @scottelliottmusic you don't have to belt anything to be a good singer. average though? really? in what way is his guitar playing average?

  • @Ethonadon10 Although he is very skilled at playing guitar, he doesnt do anything new with it so the talent he has is more forgettable. There are a lot of people out there who can play just as well. He just writes better songs, but albums sold does not equate to exceptional guitar player. He just a very commercially successful songwriter who can bust out some SRV solos. Hes good, but nothing about his playing knocks me out.

  • @scottelliottmusic You should tell Clapton and all the other legends john has played with that.

  • @Mharr1s there are plenty of people who have played with those guys, Clapton, Buddy, BB. Its not that huge of a deal. They play with 8 year old kids too. Im not saying it doesnt mean anything, it just means he one of the few younger mainstream artists who plays blues guitar. Who else would they play with from the younger generations? And Clapton got lame after about 1975 anyway. John could never play with him in the days of Cream, he'd get straight smoked.

  • @scottelliottmusic I love how you are still commenting on john mayer videos. You must love him. oh, and by the way you don't get invited to the crossroads guitar festival 3 times in a row for no reason at all. No on likes you, you stupid fuck so just stop talking and accept the fact that john Mayer is our generations clapton. There were plenty of people like you in Hendrix's age that thought the same of him, but he will be remember for an eternity, just like Mayer will be.

  • @scottelliottmusic and if you can not see/hear that john mayer has something special that no one else on this planet has, you are a dumb ignorant fool. Maybe you need to watch where the light is to change your mind, who knows you could just need the cock out of your asshole too

  • @Mharr1s hahaha Yikes! you sound like the person who is in love with him. I only comment when someone comments to me. Ease up on the Hendrix comparisons, and I could do without your homo erotic fantasies too. If you seriously think no one on the planet is as good as John Mayer, then you are the dumb ignorant fool. I wont waste any time on someone so narrow minded.

  • @Mharr1s And I have watched Where the Light Is........yawn.....John, stop talking so damn much......yawn....John, really, stop talking......yawn.....John, seriously sto...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................Maybe YOU should watch Hendrix live at Monterrey to learn exactly why Mayer is no where near him, and I dont even like Hendrix all THAT much. Hes great, but not my favorite.

  • @scottelliottmusic I never said he was the best ever. Because there is no such thing as someone being the best guitarist in the world. Hendrix is one of my favorites and i guarantee i know more about him than you do. you watch where the light is and you dont even like mayer. you don't know anything about guitar at all so keep sucking that cock and taking it in the ass fag boy

  • @Mharr1s man, you really have some homosexuality issues. While its good to talk about your feelings, I recommend a professional over YouTube forums, but whatever works.......maybe you need the anonymity to feel comfortable coming out

  • @scottelliottmusic Still coming back to the john mayer video to beat off to him i see

  • @Mharr1s hahaha....ok, this is silly, you are just trying to get a reaction from me. How do you know I'm coming back unless you are keeping track of my activity for some reason? Creeper. Nothing you say is relevant. you cant discuss this maturely so you have to make gay jokes to compensate. Go back to your video games and make your gay jokes to 12 year-old boys over the little head set im sure you have so you can talk shit anonymously in the video game world.

  • @scottelliottmusic creeper? I know you come back because look at all of your fucking comments. Who knows how many other mayer videos you are commenting on and trying to bash him. It's ok to be jealous of someone who is better than you.

  • @Ethonadon10 I think his vocal work is more impressive here than his guitar work

  • @blume6546 well said blume6546.....

  • This is the most amazing version of I Don't Trust Myself I think. The intro is better than WTLI as well. He puts everything out in this song.

  • This whole performance was good check out vultures from this performance too

  • and dreaming with a broken heart!!!!

  • Wow, I'm speachless! This was amazing. Almost as good (if not as good) as the version on "Where the light is" :)

  • Q-Tron for sure, though there is a setting on Adrenalinn if you want to pay $399.99 for it :/ I believe it is the Mini Q-Tron

  • debe ser en el 2008

  • alguien me puede dcir cuando fue el año de este video ......÷çñ÷----agradeceria al q me lo diera

  • wtf I remember posting this up last year and my account got banned for it -_- no fair.

  • im guessing you probably put the words austin city limits somewhere in the title or tags or description. and they found it and took it down for copyright infringement

  • that effect is sick. the tone is at full, not turned down with just some wah pedal. it is indeed a envelope filter. a sick pedal i might add. wicked groove in this song.

  • i thought he uses that adrienalin pedal

  • this is an enquiry: how can you see the tone is turned up?

  • Comment removed

  • @zacharyjoely The pedal: Adrenalinn 3

  • @zacharyjoely lol

  • @zacharyjoely it's an AdrenaLinn III by Roger Linn. He also uses it on Bigger Than My Body and Heartbreak Warfare

  • wat is that effect???????

  • i dont know for sure but i believe its is just neck pickup, tone all the way down and some wah

  • its the envelope filter haha by electroharmonix

  • adrenalinn

  • Envelope Filter with some overdrive

  • adrenalinn

  • Comment removed

  • A minor, I believe. Perhaps a little A dorian action.

  • He starts out in A minor but changes to B minor at 8:08

  • It's in A.. kickass jam

  • yeah. A dorian

  • best idtmwly on yt

  • ikr, omg.

  • Wow, this all is amazing, but his vocal here particularly blows me away, he was really in the zone with all of the subtle touches that night.

  • My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!

  • the only thing i don't like about this......is his sweater. haha. but i am willing to look past that. lol

  • This has to be hands down the best set John Mayer has ever played, every song that night was flawless and had its own special twist, great vibe of all these songs from this night. Awesome

  • Which pedal he uses at the intro ?!?!

  • Adrenalinn

  • envelope filter

  • Soo beautifull:D is this performance before or after WTLI?

  • This performance i think was broadcasted a couple BEFORE WTLI

  • yeah i think this was broadcasted in the winter of 2007

  • Before.

  • No intro @ WTLI is better, this is too slow en he keeps the vocals more simple.

  • but still a great performance eh.

  • i think they are both great! why settle for one when you can have two! :)

  • true true

  • I think I like this more than WTLI and I've never said that about a Mayer performance.

  • You're right. This performance is better than WTLI. The intro/outro, guitar solos, the bands, the voice, even sound quality are dead on. Of course this is my opinion, some other people might prefer other versions of the song.

  • such sick groove and cool sound

  • this guy is awesome!

  • I think it was Ocotober 15, 2007 and it aired on PBS. Amazing show!

  • WHen was this recorded?

  • wow!

  • Love love this

  • the end it s awsome the notes are so slow and good put in the riff , just like clapton so lyrical

  • Yeah you can tell Clapton influanced alot in this song.. listen to the first notes of the song 2:58 sounds like ¨Old Love¨..

  • hehe yeah then around 7:40-8:10 is some kickass SRV influence followed by somethin soundin reminiscent of santana lol... awsome blend

  • hell yeah

  • Nice jump !! 8:06

  • this is one of his best performances i've ever seen. thank you for the video. i hope it's here for a long time to come.

  • 7:39-7:50

    SRV!

  • Albert King

  • OkaY At 8:24

im tryin to learn how to keep that consistent pattern of like bend pluck pluck but its so hard

HOW does he do it so smoothly?

  • years and years of practice...

  • Comment removed

  • @ballerfiko You bend the B up to at 15 to 17 then pluck the high e 12 fret 2 times. He's strumming both but he lets go of the bend after he reaches the note so he doesn't get the octave sound, which would still sound fine.

  • feakin amazing! i loved john's jump :)

  • way better than WTLI intro hands down!! And better JM faces too
