Look at Dylan in the early sixities. The guy was androgynous. It would have been difficult to find an actor that could pull off the Bob Dylan of 1964.

I don't think Blanchett is attempting to precisely imitate Dylan. She's not an impersonator. She is attempting to capture something essential about Dylan, and portray that. Or, at least, portray her perception of Dylan's inner life.

I agree. Tilda's performance was not that stand-out in "Michael Clayton"; one can tell the Academy members were obviously voting for the film and not her performance. It made sense too, since Cate Blanchett won already (2004 - Best Supp. Actress - "The Aviator").

It would've been awesome if Cate won for Bob Dylan :D

let's pt it this way: the academy award judges who actually vote got it totally WRONG!!!! If you ask me, I thought Tilda Swinton deserved NOTHING!! she wasn't even that great in Clayton. Cate is one of those actors who simply is a chameleon. and the academy(judging how Jack Nicholson was robbed for outstanding performances such as in The departed and Five Easy Pieces) doesn't like that, very rarely do they. In other words, the try to make it tough, and go for certain things....

Don't get me wrong, I think Tilda is a fine actress but Cate was robbed. I think it's pretty obvious which performance was more indellible. Oh well. Cate's performance is legendary and will be remembered, Tilda's will be forgotten. Cate lost out to Gwyneth in '99 but which performance is still being discussed to this day? Oscars are political, time will reveal the true winner.

She totally deserved the Oscar, not friggin' Tilda Swinton. The only reason Swinton won is because she is a lesser known actress, and she's never won before. Personally, I think this is so stupid cause I was under the impression that Oscars were awarded to the best achievement in film for the year. It seems like lately they've just been distributing them so that everybody can have a turn. How is that fair? I've seen both films, and its pretty clear whose performance was better. (Cate's)
