Who ever the two people who didn't like this need to stop being jealous that it doesn't snow in Cali..... bet 100 bucks they're from Texas. Haters always come from Texas.
Sorry guys, this performance is old news. Westminster Chorus, 2010 Gold Medal champs just kicked it up a notch! Totally made my day, and all I can say is congratulations to Westminster! You continue to amaze us!!!
@dgpeterson03 that preformance was so amazing and the fact that they only won by two points over the vocal majority is amazing because they both did so amazing i totally predicted that westminster would win now its time for a masters of harmony and vocal majority 2011 in kansas city missouri
@Cobyonekanoby actually, Westminster won by 19 points which was only 2 points more than the VM beat Westminster in 2006, because they beat them by 17 points that year. and yes, 2011 is gonna be veeeerry interesting.
@Cobyonekanoby masters of harmony have NEVER lost right, even though their streak is newer and less than VM's 30-year streak right?
I'd be REALLY interested in watching Westminster go toe-toe to with MOH, and, no, it's not up to the choruses for those who will argue it, it depends who wins when.
@Icyveins906 ya it is up to the choruses, cuz a chorus can choose to sit out from internationals. and if masters and westminster are ever eligible to compete the same year, one of them will sit out, out of respect. so i wouldnt count on them ever competing against eachother.
I did miss that until after you mentioned that. Eagle view would have been appropriate right there. They are awesome, but unfortunately, the recording device was a little far back. Their diction was very good, but unfortunately, it's so quite in places that the words are inaudible. Still, great show.
It was not just the embellished chord. If you didn't see, they formed a "W" with the choir, of course, for "Westminster" when they sung that particular chord. I thought it was, all around, greatly performed and sung.
@frogger463, it's a shame that the robo-camera was used for that part instead of a straight-on camera. That really could've been fixed in post-production (simply switch to the straight-on camera). As it is, it pretty much ruins it for people watching on DVD or YouTube, who weren't there to see it live.
They are people's favorites, meaning they are good by extension of that idea. So naturally, on that embelished chord in beginning, they get a cheer. did I say they weren't good. They're just the kind of people to get an early applause being watched by some of their devoted fans.
You just have to be really well-known, clean-shaven men to get applause from women on a stage, and everyone has his or her favorite. Ergo, applause comes easily to them. did you know these guys were formed by the younger members of the Ambassadors back when they were twice as huge? (maybe it was masters, won't argue.) I wish I lived close to enough to join, but then I might not even know they existed.
Barbershop Harmony Society International Chorus Competition . . . Every July. Can only win every three years. They will be back in 2010! Should be awesome!!
For CPTLULZ--having married a choir chick who is quite familiar with my drum corps past, she wholeheartedly agrees with your assessment--yes, barbershop IS the drum corps of the choral world--and show choir is the marching band. LOL!!
And to think they were so good musically that they won even though they took a deduction for the non-singing dance section. A remarkable group of young men. Like many others, that tag sent a chill up my spine. Wonderfully done. Hope to see them in Portland 2012.
hate to break it to you but these guys are mostlikly going to win the international convention this year in philedelphia and they are always out for two years 2011 and 2012 and then back in 2013
i Totally think the vm is gonna loose this chorus already got close to beating them not only that they are the choir of the world and thats a hard thing to do. plus the vm does not even deserve to win they should take a break they won thirty years in a row good job jim henry
Yes, but the previous time the VM got beat (by the Kentucky Thoroughbreds), they got WAY better the next year, and it took a third of a century for someone to beat them again. And even so, they did better this year than they, or anyone else, had ever done before.
The Ambassadors were even better than that!
At any rate, this will be one HECK of a contest this year! Not only Westminster vs. the VM, but some other Choruses are up-and-comers, such as the Sound of the Rockies (came in 4th).
The Sound of the Rockies Chorus beat the Toronto Northern Lights this past year. You may remember them from 2003, when they came pretty darn close to beating the VM with a lot fewer men. Many people to this day still think that the TNL should've won in 2003 (I'm one of them).
TNL will also be competing in Philly.
BarbershopHarmony38 really should upload the TNL's 2003 set here. That was some hilarous, wonderful stuff!
Wahooooooooooo absolutley fantastic i love this, cant wait to see you guys in England in the next 2 weeks whoop!!! Royce what a legend too, great MD he has sooo much energy!! :) Sarah xx
@topshelfbari15 judges love directors that are enthusiastic but you dont want one who is over enthusiastic cause then it will take attention off of the chorus
agreed, terrible placement at critical times for the bands choreography. The big W took me a few watches through to notice because of the camera angle.
You'd think by now that the Society would work it out with the choruses to have the camera director or someone on the recording team in the chorus's rehearsals one or twice to take notes on timing and camera angles and stuff. Some groups have so much going on that it's a shame it can't be all on the dvd, but I guess that's more incentive to get people to actually go to the contests!
YEP! I went back,...and saw it,..even though,..I do not know Cory,...I found him! I was a member of the 1987 intnl champ chorus,...and i can hear MY vocal error on the contest recording! Geesh! It never goes away.. .. .. My sympathies to Cory.. .. .. .. .
Holy Cow!!! That ain't your daddy's Barbershop Chorus! That's for sure. Forty years ago this stuff was pretty dry and uninspiring. You've come a long way, baby!!
what i'd give to see just the front camera feed, the camera work sucks, they miss all the good stuff for close ups, that'll teach me for missing an internationals
I swear, when I'm old enough, I'm gonna move out to Orange County and join this group of amazing people. I mean, their sound is a one of a kind sound. Plus I'd be singing with 4 of my heroes: Sean, Pat, Cory, and of course, Shawn. So yeah, save me a spot in the front row. =]
@baddiss74 I don't see why they had to take it down originally. They stop producing each DVD after a while, and I might have bought one of the last ones from 2007. It's not like they are losing money by people watching it on youtube, since they cannot buy it anymore.
Phenomenally awesome! It'd be even better if the 3 comment boxes that have been overlaid were removed, cause this is one of the best performances I've even seen! Pity to mess up the perfection of the performance with those distractions. This group ROCKS!!
