The white boy in the band is he world famous Rod Temperton. Wrote most of the Heatwave jams on top of songs for Off the Wall and he title track for some obscure album called Thriller. The boy is bad! and British!
@1mformed nah, that's mario mantese. Rod stopped performing with the group to concentrate more on songwriting, even though he was officially still a member of heatwave. .

@endorphinz Yea, I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. Although Philip Bailey, from EWF, was close behind, ha, ha,. But yeah he was the best, Always & Forever, & Star of a story, Happiness Togetherness. Are my 3 favorites.
this is one of the best clips of johnnie (IN THE ZONE)....if not for the car crash he would have ben one of the best soul singers of our time.....RIP!
The best voice of that era in Johnnie Wilder. The best well rounded group. Heatwave had the awesome fast jams as well as the timeless love ballads. Their music will simply last Always and Forever!
Wow!! Watching the Unsung episode on Heatwave I had no idea the bass player and the drummer were from Europe. That guy can really play the bass and can move too. I really miss those days when groups really performed instead of having a bunch of half naked girls shaking on stage to keep you from knowing how bad the act really is and calling it a concert.
2DAYS SOUND CANT STAND N THE SAME ROOM...listen up youngsters this is what YA CALL TALENT...... musical artist with multi talent...... JUST BRILLIANT! Takes me back 2 a time n music/life..people partied 4 the love & fun quality tunes like this gave us.We will never witness such greatness again. Happy i didnt miss that bus.
Just got through watchin these talentent group of guys on T.V. One Unsung very interestin. R.I.P Johnnie Wilder, didn't Know that Rod Temperton was in the group. Classic Music for your Soul.
i havent looked at the comments but im sure this was a double a side on(45 disc} uk always and forever. still a top tune. ol Lionel looks so young bless.where is my 1st love.
One of my favorite songs of all times ... such a beautiful song!!! Johnny Wilder who did most/all lead vocals on the hits by Heatwave was truly another gifted singer who'll forever be missed yet always remembered.
Makes me sad (at times) when I think of all the great entertainers in my lifetime whose music I've enjoyed that are no longer here (Marvin, Barry, MJ, Teddy, Luther, Rick James, just to name a few). THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE ... TAKES ME DOWN MEMORY LANE AND BACK.
@yellyyow while visiting Dayton, his hometown, in June 1979, Wilder suffered a car accident that forced him to spend the remainder of his life confined to a wheelchair. Wilder died May 13, 2006.
@lkdmpr OMG!.. Really!!! .. if you have time send me more info on it... I didnt know.. ! Heatwave was an awesome group!.. I was a teenager during that time!!
@ZionLadyof Sorry i didn't know i had an inbox, here is a wikipedia link does'nt tell much, maybe look him or heatwave up on allmusic.com . I'm from Dayton, I remember when he had the accident, I lived near there. That intersection was bad, it had a tree that blocked the stop sign (people who lived there sent the city letters and there were other accidents as well).
I had the Heatwave album with this song on it. I use to play it all the time. I really miss Johnnie singing with Heatwave. Thanks for sharing this song.
they sound equally, if not better live than on record. one skill that most artists today lack, and this is coming from a 20year old who grew up on soul!
saw heatwave yesterday, 4th july 2010. they still sounded good but it was all background music with just 3 singers. it really could've been any 3 black guys for all i know. not sure who if any are from the original set up? they were a red hot band back in the day. proper music not like todays c-rap.
This is how you know they made good music. I was born in 1985,and wasnt up on heatwave until sometime in the 90s,and from the 90s on I been listenin to them and still havnt heard 1 bad song. definately a classic group and their music is better than alot that's out right now. heatwave forever
I just turned 29 earlier this week and even though I wasn't born when this song was originally made, its a timeless piece of work. I hate my generation and today's music, and would give anything to go back to this simpler time
anyone know the chords of this?

One of my favorite songs of all times ... such a beautiful song!!! Johnny Wilder who did most/all lead vocals on the hits by Heatwave was truly another gifted singer who'll forever be missed yet always remembered.
Makes me sad (at times) when I think of all the great entertainers in my lifetime whose music I've enjoyed that are no longer here (Marvin, Barry, MJ, Teddy, Luther, Rick James, just to name a few). THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE ... TAKES ME DOWN MEMORY LANE AND BACK.

what happened to the original lead singer?
yellyyow 1 year ago
@yellyyow while visiting Dayton, his hometown, in June 1979, Wilder suffered a car accident that forced him to spend the remainder of his life confined to a wheelchair. Wilder died May 13, 2006.

@lkdmpr OMG!.. Really!!! .. if you have time send me more info on it... I didnt know.. ! Heatwave was an awesome group!.. I was a teenager during that time!!
ZionLadyof 1 year ago
@ZionLadyof Sorry i didn't know i had an inbox, here is a wikipedia link does'nt tell much, maybe look him or heatwave up on allmusic.com . I'm from Dayton, I remember when he had the accident, I lived near there. That intersection was bad, it had a tree that blocked the stop sign (people who lived there sent the city letters and there were other accidents as well).

I had the Heatwave album with this song on it. I use to play it all the time. I really miss Johnnie singing with Heatwave. Thanks for sharing this song.

they sound equally, if not better live than on record. one skill that most artists today lack, and this is coming from a 20year old who grew up on soul!

saw heatwave yesterday, 4th july 2010. they still sounded good but it was all background music with just 3 singers. it really could've been any 3 black guys for all i know. not sure who if any are from the original set up? they were a red hot band back in the day. proper music not like todays c-rap.
fredorulz1 1 year ago
This is how you know they made good music. I was born in 1985,and wasnt up on heatwave until sometime in the 90s,and from the 90s on I been listenin to them and still havnt heard 1 bad song. definately a classic group and their music is better than alot that's out right now. heatwave forever

Just learned that Johnnie Wilder, Jr. was a member of The Church.

I just turned 29 earlier this week and even though I wasn't born when this song was originally made, its a timeless piece of work. I hate my generation and today's music, and would give anything to go back to this simpler time
