  • I had this shit on 8 track. One of the baddest groups ever to do the damn thang. This song is sick, and it's better live than on the album. I hate 'em. I'm so jealous of the talent. Get it y'awl!

  • The drummer here is actually Czechoslovakian according to certain sources. (I believe that Keith Wilder has kept the name going and hauls his own version of the band around the States). This has to have been the best song Johnnie Wilder wrote for the band.

  • best of the song is the end and they cut it easily..

  • Wow. Pitch perfect. I miss those days!!!!!

  • I can listen to this song 50 times in a row back to back, just like it dropped yesterday! Love you Heatwave (Kiss)

  • @vanedajackson1 I'm the same way! Been listening to it on this Old School Jams CD that I bought for $5 at the barber shop. Just decided to find it on Youtube today. Had never seen the group up close like this. I staring at the album cover with all the melted stuff back in the day when we lived in Denver when I was 7 and 8 yrs old. Yeah, that Rod Pemberton is a pretty cold with some lyrics. Wonder what happened to the lead singer. This looks like an episode of UNSUNG!! Can't wait for one on them.

  • @vanedajackson1 lol me too, takes me back to the 70's when I was a child.

  • @vanedajackson1 flippin lovely music , i agree..

  • im 18 and been listening to this since i was six singing the whole song while im chillin in the 87' black caddy on them thangs with the windows tented. TRUE SONG IF I WAS LISTENING TO IT THEN

  • man, I wish I could sing like Johnnie lol. thanks for the post

  • Oh, memories...and the song is even better than I remember - groove, lyric, voices...'think long, you thin wrong, so don't think too long', dropped in perfectly. Songwriters of today, hate to get old lady on your **s, but listen and learn.

    This is sublime. Just sublime.

  • 1 of Favorites cuz Love the words always have...

  • Great singer,Great song...R.I.P. Johnny Wilder

  • What song is the crowd dancing to? They look off beat like crazy! LOL

  • @rabbit716 The sound and video are not in sync.

  • Rest In Peace Johnny Wilder.

  • The white boy in the band is he world famous Rod Temperton. Wrote most of the Heatwave jams on top of songs for Off the Wall and he title track for some obscure album called Thriller. The boy is bad! and British!

  • @1mformed rod was also a big part of michel jackson's thriller album

  • @1mformed nah, that's mario mantese. Rod stopped performing with the group to concentrate more on songwriting, even though he was officially still a member of heatwave. .

  • @1mformed You are correct rod wrote most the songs and was part of the group, but he is not on the stage. That is Ernest (Bilbo) Berger drummer. He did play keyboards on the album but, he was not on the stage. After the Central Heating album which this song is off of, he only wrote songs for the group but was not actively part of the group.

  • there's three actually. the drummer, he's from sweden. He didn't even know english when he started the band. And the other one is the bassist- he was stabbed after a party by his girlfriend and lost his ability to play AND sing (blood clot in the heart, he was in the hospital for a looong time)! Rod's awesome, awesome lyricist! And of course we can't forget the lead singer Johnnie. He was paralyzed in a car accident (quad). So sad! But I still love jamming to them!!!!

  • @tbags4123 also jihnnie was in the military the army. he created the group will he was stationed in germany chicago heatwave

  • @1mformed nope neither of the white boys in this vid are rod temperton..he is bad though

  • @1mformed No Rod Temperton was a keyboardest ! That isn't him trust me !

  • @1mformed yes that's the MAN

  • Respond to this video... i should not have 2 stop look and listen Dam they r GOOD!

  • @1mformed can you imagine if Heatwave actually did Rock With You and where they would be if they had accepted it before he gave it to MJ?

  • Way Before My Time But I love The Hell Out Of This Song....

  • Reminds me of one of my free spirited friends, back in the day

  • OMGGGGGGG! So much NOSTALGIA! Reminiscing on the 70's

  • The 3 dislikes are people who have had serious head trauma!

  • back then the brothas thought hard about the consequences of shacking or marriage..they even thought is was "mind blowing"...nowadays..well you get my drift????

  • back then the brothas though about the consequences of shacking or marriage..nowadays..well you get my drift????

  • I love this song!!!!

  • Fuck the three dislikers. This is good music.

  • My teenage years lived again!!!!!!!!!! love it xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • thankyou you tube!!!! this is the best memory lane ever!!!!

  • this was one beautiful song back in the day and it's still sounding great. johnny really had a beautiful voice. this band was pretty big back in '77-'78,my high school years.

  • I'M JUST GOING TO RIDE THE HEATWAVE ALL THE WAY TO HEAVEN.

  • i seen t v one unsung that guy that is singin is dead man and heatwavev was tha sh..t back in tha day

  • @MRLONGINCLEVELAND yesssir! it sure would be,this is definitely a classic that WON'T die.

  • I've been sitting here working, listening to this ONE song for an hour. I think I'm driving my coworkers crazy.........but I don't care

  • I really miss romance in music and artist who can actually sing and not just scream sex and looks...Feel the Heat--wave!

  • its true... mindblowing decisions causes head on collisions.. no decade was better than the 70's! lol!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song they sang on UNSUNG..(THE LAST SONG WERE JOHNNIE IS RUNNING AND RIFFING AT THE END)! Someone should notice it...lol

  • @DeishaGuy it was Always & Forever

  • What a great cut! The gift of music is immeasurable. Heatwave and other extraordinary groups of that particular era seemed to possess talent that had no boundaries.

  • johnnie was such an attractive man.. even after his accident he still had that beautiful smile

  • Asian beauties meet hot *lushfmlk.info*

  • ahh, the days when artists could really sing and really play live. this is beautiful.

  • Isn't that Rod Temperton on one of the guitars??

  • @steelerdave2000 Rod Temperton played keyboards/piano but had stopped performing with the group by the time this song was released. He had become strictly a song writer for the group (and many other artists), though Johnnie Wilder (on lead vocals) actually wrote this song. This was the only of Heatwave's hit songs that was not written by Temperton.

  • @dienglee

WOW...I DIDNT KNOW JOHNNIE WROTE THIS SONG(I THOUGHT ROD WROTE THIS) NOW I HAVE( EVEN MORE) RESPECT 4 JOHNNIE! THANKS 4 THAT INFO!!!

  • I'm watching the Unsung program about Heatwave and couldn't get enough of their music. My goodness, this was a talented band. Johnny Wilder was awesome! Unfortunately, they had so much tragedy.

  • I'm watching the Unsung program about Heatwave and couldn't get enough of their music. My goodness, this was a talented band. Unfortunately, they had so much tragedy!

  • Johnny Wilder had one of THE best falsettos in R&B history. Just perfection.

  • @endorphinz Yea, I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. Although Philip Bailey, from EWF, was close behind, ha, ha,. But yeah he was the best, Always & Forever, & Star of a story, Happiness Togetherness. Are my 3 favorites.

  • Strange as we were all dressing very 50's in style & of course the Granny & plastic sandals. American's were still in their Flares.

  • this is one of the best clips of johnnie (IN THE ZONE)....if not for the car crash he would have ben one of the best soul singers of our time.....RIP!

  • this song is the shit i looked at unsung and heard this one i luv it

  • geiser with the hat wtf??? turn around dick !!! ha ha Good tune though!!

  • The best voice of that era in Johnnie Wilder. The best well rounded group. Heatwave had the awesome fast jams as well as the timeless love ballads. Their music will simply last Always and Forever!

  • Hey Dude with the hat. Stop dancing like a White Boy!

  • smoothe and sweet, emphasis on the "sweet".

  • See more on Ernest "Bilbo" Berger, the drummer on SoulDrummers . com

  • Wow!! Watching the Unsung episode on Heatwave I had no idea the bass player and the drummer were from Europe. That guy can really play the bass and can move too. I really miss those days when groups really performed instead of having a bunch of half naked girls shaking on stage to keep you from knowing how bad the act really is and calling it a concert.

  • @chiliwilly39 well said & im a woman!!!

  • 2DAYS SOUND CANT STAND N THE SAME ROOM...listen up youngsters this is what YA CALL TALENT...... musical artist with multi talent...... JUST BRILLIANT! Takes me back 2 a time n music/life..people partied 4 the love & fun quality tunes like this gave us.We will never witness such greatness again. Happy i didnt miss that bus.

  • There were alot of black talented groups like this back then. Sounds really great.

  • serio

  • One of my favorite songs of all times ... such a beautiful song!!! Johnny Wilder who did most/all lead vocals on the hits by Heatwave was truly another gifted singer who'll forever be missed yet always remembered.

Makes me sad (at times) when I think of all the great entertainers in my lifetime whose music I've enjoyed that are no longer here (Marvin, Barry, MJ, Teddy, Luther, Rick James, just to name a few). THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE ... TAKES ME DOWN MEMORY LANE AND BACK.

  • THIS WAS MY GROUP BACK INTHE DAY.

  • @TheCounslor MINE TOO MATE!

  • how high is that guy?

  • @AlbertTransom

HE NEVER SMOKED OR DRANK....HE WAS JUST IN THE ZONE!!!!!!

  • what happened to the original lead singer?

  • @yellyyow while visiting Dayton, his hometown, in June 1979, Wilder suffered a car accident that forced him to spend the remainder of his life confined to a wheelchair. Wilder died May 13, 2006.

  • @lkdmpr OMG!.. Really!!! .. if you have time send me more info on it... I didnt know.. ! Heatwave was an awesome group!.. I was a teenager during that time!!

  • @ZionLadyof Sorry i didn't know i had an inbox, here is a wikipedia link does'nt tell much, maybe look him or heatwave up on allmusic.com . I'm from Dayton, I remember when he had the accident, I lived near there. That intersection was bad, it had a tree that blocked the stop sign (people who lived there sent the city letters and there were other accidents as well).

  • @lkdmpr

  • I had the Heatwave album with this song on it. I use to play it all the time. I really miss Johnnie singing with Heatwave. Thanks for sharing this song.

  • they sound equally, if not better live than on record. one skill that most artists today lack, and this is coming from a 20year old who grew up on soul!

  • saw heatwave yesterday, 4th july 2010. they still sounded good but it was all background music with just 3 singers. it really could've been any 3 black guys for all i know. not sure who if any are from the original set up? they were a red hot band back in the day. proper music not like todays c-rap.

  • This is how you know they made good music. I was born in 1985,and wasnt up on heatwave until sometime in the 90s,and from the 90s on I been listenin to them and still havnt heard 1 bad song. definately a classic group and their music is better than alot that's out right now. heatwave forever

  • Just learned that Johnnie Wilder, Jr. was a member of The Church.
