what a bad teacher. 1st gear is the biggest gear and the gears get smaller the higher the gear. little gears spin faster allowing the vehicle to go faster when you are in 5th or 6th gear. no wonder he cant explain it

okay thats shit driving. You downshift to firstly give the engine more ability to work. (more explosions, higher revs - more power). Secondly the higher gear ratio means that the engine must rotate more times for every rotation of the wheels. This also puts less pressure on the engine. And rev-matching is necessary to not only save the clutch, but to save momentum. Your brakes do the braking and your engine has friction so you use that too. Your clutch is a buffer not a brake. You'll get better

Actually, 3rd gear is bigger than 4th gear. When you downshift into 3rd, your engine needs to spin faster to spin the bigger gear (3rd gear) the same amount, since your wheels are still moving at the same speed. This increase in engine RPM gets you up into your powerband (more horsepower) and allows you to accelerate faster.

no, the reason you get power in 3rd is because you were going around 50-65 mph, and you were hitting VTEC

drop to 2nd, and you're at redline, drop to 4th, and you're not in VTEC.

if you want power, you go to 3rd and floor that shit
