Amazing! It must be part of a very strong cultural tradition to be able to have so many people of all ages and gender sing together! Even without knowing what the song is about, just listening and watching the faces, it moves me to tears of compassion, joy and hope! Apsveicam un paldies from Australia! (Google translation ok?) I am from Wales, also a small country which has great singers and choirs, but this choir just blew me away.........definately going to visit Latvia for the next song festival in 2013.
Russians cleaner nation than Balts such as Russians dominant gene haplogroups balto-slavic r1a 45-65%, for example, the Lithuanians have a dominant gene r1a haplogroups only 40% -45%. purest representatives of the Baltic race is Belarusians then Russian 3 place Lithuanians and Lats and 4 place this Estonians.
this is soooooooooooooo typical for russians. making other nations worse, so that they look better, unfortunatley it is always based on half truths, something imagined and very ''relieable'' russian scientist researches. even a small child can very easily say difference between latvian, estonian, swede.. and russian, they are mixed of europeans, turke, mongolians etc.
@elfofwoods Latvians Lithuanians Russians Estonian Swedes mixed with Turks and Mongols? You're an idiot?? The only difference between these peoples that the Russians and Swedish basically straight noses becouse Russians and Swedes have mostly european genes, Estonians and Latvians are basically snub nose becouse strong Finno-Ugric admixture.
@elfofwoods Modern Baltic residents, is merger Indo-Europeans from Russian steppes and native Finns who live in Baltic region. It is fact confirmed by American geneticists. and archeology
and why morons in Estonia and Latvia think that all Russians hate Latvians and Estonians?? I am Russian and I respect Latvians and Estonians.
@wolsky25 just look at the comment above yours, i'm sure you'll understand it, the worst part is that they all are like that, especially those who have power. We, morons, are sick of russification and it is everywhere, russian radio,tv channels, football, hockey, political party winnind government election, russian major, russian bussiness people taking over latvian firms, referendum for russian language, matroska's etc. at every capital's traditional market and people who show their hatred and
@wolsky25 disrespect agains latvians and latvian language everywhere, 9th May, when they are celebrating something that brought 50 years of occupation and mass deportations etc. and they are not expressing their "culture" since their homeland is just beyond the border and those are russia's flags which they wave in the air. And by the way it is easy to distinguish these people not only by the look.
@turbokurwaagent007 Maybe we got to put you in washing machine so you got cleaner! :DDD and to make you more proud about that. but at end of the day what the bloody difference. anyway will be total globalization and then no nations, no countries so what you are fussing about?
@turbokurwaagent007 : don't confuse honey with shit. Russians and Belarussians are not our brothers. They are extraneous to Balts, alien to Balts, as mentality, as genetic. Only part of "belarussians" are in fact genetic lithuanians, but they are polonised and russified. Part of russia's population are of baltic origin too, but their mentality... Chingis Khan is their brother and forefather.
seogwipo1Russian ethnos Born 7 thousand years in modern Lithuania, Belorusssians i not known. . Russians genetic and anthropological not Slavs. Well, I do not know about the mentality of Russians, but Balts too far from civilization, I mean Western Europe.
The Proto-Indo-Europeans lived the 5th to 4th millennia BC in Eastern Europe. This area is now known as Baltic hidronimic area. By the mid-2nd millennium BC offshoots of the Indo-Europeans had reached Anatolia, the Aegean, Northern India, Western Europe. The earliest references of "Slavs" are from the 6th century AD, as part of peripheral balts near Kiev was mixed with scyths, khazarians, huns etc.
ancient Scythians Sarmatians Slavs and Balts are one and same. Balts emerged from a mixture of Scythian-Sarmatians, Germans and Finns, burn Baltic type skull (modern Russians Belarusians, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians)
At the 8-10th cent. part of slavs from Kiev region moved to nowadays Western Russia, assimilated the native Baltic and Finno-Ugric peoples. Later those slavs mixed with tatarians and mongols, who ruled this territory and so born russian ethnos 7-9 HUNDRED years ago. Maybe you are right, that russians genetically and antropological are not slavs, because they are very mixed with many other tribes.
Russians and Ukrainians do not have anything in common. Ukrainians black hair, brown eyes skull Alpine, Russians dark blond, gray eyes, with the Baltic skull. Russians Belarusians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians genetically similar, but the Russians and Belarusian cleaner Indo-Europeans than Balts.
yes, many belarusians and russians in Western Russia are dark blond, gray eyes, with the Baltic skull - they are clean progeny of native Balts and Finno-Ugric peoples, they were slavicised at 8-10 centuries. But russians in general can't be cleaner Indo-Europeans than Balts, because Slavs was peripherial balts initially mixed with khazars, huns, magyars, bulgars, pecenegs, kipchaks, avars... Because this mix peripherial balts become slavs, with new identity, new language, new genetic...
@turbokurwaagent007 hahaha im would love to see how did estonians etc got the"celtic" gene.., the numbers may be right but not the meaning.. and russians have the best set , of course. slavs were "created" not long(comparing to the others) ago, but the baltic people are like 4000 years old when there were no slavic people, so don't talk bull shit
A beautiful song with power and emotion. I don't understand the lyrics, but who cares; Music is universal. I personally believe that Latvians have a talent for music. Within one year I will visit Latvia. This song is one of the reasons I want to visit.
It´s an amazing song! I understand how proud you must be for your song festivals, your country and nation, because I feel the same way about Estonia (and our song festival has just finished ;)) Go neighbours!! :) Greetings from Estonia.
realmente la gente del baltico tiene una cultura musical coral tremenda, no es tan facil arreglar las voces de semejante multitud, gracias por compartirlo!
Beautiful! What is the name of this song? Does anyone have a link to this song in Latvian with an English translation? I'll come back to look for your post on this.
I am from the USA and I am proud to say that my two beautiful daughter will participate in these song Dziesmu dienas in order to keep there great traditions alive!
Nooooo, it doesn't suck. It's great. And sounds so familiar, we sing similar songs in Lithuanian Song Festivals, too. Oh, it makes me want to cry.. xD
Not pretending on poetry but translation of lyrics: 00:10 Song, how do you begin? How do you begin? Begin with a quiet word, A quiet word. 00:39 Begin with a quiet word, Begin with a quiet syllable - Your people will comprehend, Your people will comprehend - 00:59 The song is a shout.
01:07 Sing about a low grass, A low grass, Sing about a light ray, A light ray. 01:33 Sing about a light ray, Sing a cheap joke - Your people will comprehend, Your people will comprehend - 01:53 The song is a shout.
02:29 Sing about pink dreams, Pink dreams. If you are commanded to sing, If you are commanded to sing. 02:55 If you are commanded to sing, Sing, even though, out of fear - Your people will comprehend, Your people will comprehend - 03:14 The song is a shout.
02:29 Dziedi par rozā sapņiem, Par rozā sapņiem; Ja jau tev pavēl dziedāt, Ja jau tev pavēl dziedāt. 02:55 Ja jau tev pavēl dziedāt, Dziedi, kaut vai aiz bailēm - Tavējie sapratīs, Tavējie sapratīs, 03:14 Ka dziesma ir kliedziens.
I tried to translate the words.. Song, what are you beginning with, Begin with quiet word begin with quiet syllable ''yours'' will understand, ''yours'' will understand, that song is a scream.. Sing about the low grass, sing about a light shaft, sing [for?] cheap joke ''yours'' will understand, that song is a scream.. Sing about pink dreams Of you're ordered to sing, then sing for of fear ''yours'' will understand, ''yours'' will understand that song is a scream.
01:07 Dziedi par zemu zāli. Par zemu zāli, Dziedi par gaišu staru, Par gaišu staru. 01:33 Dziedi par gaišu staru, Dziedi pa lētam jokam Tavējie sapratīs Tavējie sapratīs 01:53 Ka dziesma ir kliedziens.
Dziesma, ar ko tu sācies?Ar ko tu sācies?Sācies ar klusu vārdu,Ar klusu vārdu.00:39Sācies ar klusu vārdu,Sācies ar klusu zilbi -Tavējie sapratīs,Tavējie sapratīs.
thats latvian culture...! and it|s great... I am German but this is just amazing. But I guess you have to be there, then it will be even more amazing...!
Well, maybe, if to you any large European choir resembles the facist Nuremberg rallies. But it is a false argument to compare two things and say they are the same because of one similarity. I enjoy music - should I then say that a classical concert seems like Nuremberg because music was involved at both?
Nuremberg was Nuremberg because a facist ideology was passionately articulated - one of hate and contempt for others. This festival has nothing to do with that.
Thi is baltic tradition. Same peolple writes, others the Baltic sing. The fascist ideology in not hate for the others, that's banality. And All the legionari of Latvian Legion fight for fredom and indipendece of ours country and ours people.
:). Sveiciens mīļā Latvija...
Latvieshu tauta apvienojas sajaa skaistajaa nedeeljaa...taa ir viss skaistaakaa nedeelja...shii dziesma ir sirdi plososha...man taa ljoti patiik =)) Paldies visiem!!!! Luudzu paskataties veel manu video;)!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Critical note - I think it is a pitty when a person that is singing in the song festival main concert don't know the lyrics of the song they sing. I can see the cameraman struggling to find a person that knows what she/he sings.
Notice that sound doesnt coincide with visual (there is a difference of a second or two). Thats why u get the impression that people dont know lyrics...
Amazing! It must be part of a very strong cultural tradition to be able to have so many people of all ages and gender sing together! As somebody already said .... we are all a mix of tribes from all over.
But Latvians are not ruSSians, and never will be.
May all the Baltic states kick the ruSSians out; send the bastards back home to their gulags and siberia.
Latvia is very proud of being Latvian.
May it always be that way.
This song is my personal 2nd national anthem.
Beautiful song, beautiful people, beautiful country.
I can't wait to go there, to go visit my homeland.
