That big ole chunck you got on the 1st molar... awesome! For the record... let the professionals do the cleanings. Don't try to do your own cleanings, you'll only hurt yourself.
I can't stand how slow the person is doing this. That's got to be so time consuming and uncomfortable for the patient to have to sit for twice the usual time just waiting for the person to clear off all the calculus and plaque.
Omgod I just had this done right now and had about 9 shots on my gums. it was horrible! I had no idea they were doing this to my gums and now to top it all off I have to go back in 2 weeks. Great.
why someone decides to be a dentist? there anything more disgusting? kkkk anyway, I need to remove some Tartars of my teeth ... I wish my dad was my dentist huahuauhuhaa, at least I would trust him. :)
worst part is the novacaine shots, you get several, they usually only do one side, upper and lower, than the other side in a few weeks....it's not as bad as you might think, just make sure you have a good dentist.
Yep. It is the cause of deep pockets and boneloss. There is bacterial plauqe on the surface of the calcified tartar which produces an endotoxin capable of destroying bone. The body also resorbes bone as it tries to save the body from what the body perceives as a foreign object. When the body fails to fight the foreign object, it retreats. Just floss at least once daily and you can prevent the tartar. If you have tartar already, you need it removed first professionally then you can resume floss
Can the dentist remove the subgingival tartar completely? Wouldn't be there some very tiny particles left? Would these have some effect in the future? :S
There is a procedure called scaling and root planing which is used to remove subg tartar. The hygienist will insert the instrument subgingivally at varying angles of attack to ensure a complete removal. For example they would use a horizontal attack angle, followed by a vertical and finally an oblique. This way you can ensure complete removal of the tartar and a thin layer of diseased root. Usually it does not remove 100% of the disease, thus the need for perio maintenance every 3-4 months.
Sometimes the pocket is too deep for the instrument to reach for SC/RP procedure and that is when surgery will become necessary to remove tartar and bacterial plaque. Eventually if the patient does not improve the tooth will be extracted and if possible replaced by implant prosthesis. Hope this helps.

why didn't you used a ultrasound device?
ardeleanflorin 1 year ago
@ardeleanflorin it didn't see like there was that much calculus that an ultrasonic scaler was necessary

Just had this 3 times and you won't feel anything except the pressure on the teeth. The freezing is more painful than cleaning itself.
