I was born Romanian Orthodox but left it because God teaches to have no idols before him. Jesus is an idol. Wake up Romanians!!! Numbers 23:19, God is not a man!
im a catecume wooohooo contemplating if i should go back to school and go to seminary ive been told all my life I would be a pastor or a preacher i just shrugged it off im 29 now!
You don't have to be born Orthodox. You can become Orthodox. I did. I began my journey three years ago. And I am still beginning. What Monachos says is true. Come home, my friend.
From the 16th to late 19th centuries, many Balkan countries were under Ottoman (Islamic) rule and the ringing of church bells was prohibited....
In response, many of the monastic communities made rythmic sounds on wood to summon the community of monks to pray the Daily Offices (matins, vespers etc.)
What's with the Mary icons? Mary was not a god, so: why worship her?
Rather place Russian style icons of Jesus Christ beatified or of the Andorian Christ (as seen in the Star Trek wiki). Let's get our priorities straight.
@dakotagerman1 We don't worship Mary as a god, but as the one who gave birth to God. Likewise we venerate the saints, not as gods, but as men who have been made holy by God's grace and thereby reflect His glory. It is therefore edifying and sacred to present images not only of God incarnate but of His mother and all the saints who proclaim by example His salvation which is available to all mankind.
@dakotagerman1 We venerate and pray and worship the blessed saints..who were men, humbled and still committed sin..because no one (but the pope who is infallable) is without sin..so do you not THINK that we would worship the MOTHER of Christ..the woman God Himself chose to give birth to the saviour..can you imagine the grace upon Mary for God to have chosen her..and you ask why we pray to her? I think you should do some reading before sounding ridiculous again..
I am not really an expert on Orthodoxy, but I think there is a difference between reverence and worship. The Orthodox revere Mary for her grace and the fact that God chose her as his instrument to bear the Christ. It is more like showing honor and respect for one of God's greatest (if not the greatest) servants.
The Lord will teach you His ways (Ps24:9). So it says in the psalm. God does teach man His ways, but only when that man is meek and humble. God teaches only such people. - St. Nikon of Optina
I used to feel the same way back when I was a Roman Catholic. Now that I am Orthodox, I can honestly say it was the best decision of my life to convert to Orthodoxy.
@veritas89g can be done very very easily..believe me....The goal of orthodoxy is to save souls...and so no one with the will to become closer to God is turned away from our true faith..
Inquire and you will see how it is done..if you need any help you can email me...I ll guide you to the right people..
This documentary seems very nice and will inspire a lot of young people in the new world to look and reconsider monastic life... Appreciate if we can have a full copy of the documentary...!

@EvertonFooty LoL Jesus is the eternal Son of God. Just because He took on human form during a point in human history does not mean He is an idol

orthodoxy starts with giving up that need
