After Florida State University's Occupy Tallahassee protest we watched your film. With the world's ongoing protests I hope your film receives Donnie Darko like attention. Keep on doing what you do!
I appeal for cash because I put more than 9 years of my life and all my savings into this film. It would be nice to make a living from my work, but people feel it's all out there, it's all free, why pay anything? That is not a sustainable model. Downloading the work of an independent documentary filmmaker is different from downloading a Hollywood blockbuster. Many people fail to make the distinction. I had to create a private corporation to qualify for federal film investment money in Canada.
I am interested in the "real" change you feel I am undermining. Do you live without using money? Where? How?
I went into this film to share Joel Bakan's analysis with the world. You try to make it sound like my primary objective was to make money and like there's something wrong with trying to recover costs and compensate people for their contributions.
The film is not "about" the money paradigm. That would be another, very interesting film. We made a film about the corporate paradigm.
This chapter for me answers the question: Why is all the illuminati/NWO symbolism out in the open?
The answer is: So people will start to think it's normal.
If you're like me and you've tried to show other people patterns and symbolism in things such as company logos you'll quickly make yourself a social outcast. It has been accepted as normal by the majority already and for most it's hard to even allow themselves to deprogram themselves. First step is to recognize you're being programmed.
When I first put this film on Youtube, I wasn't at all sure that people would watch all chapters, so for better or worse, I alternated a pitch for donations with a promo for the DVD at the end of each. Since they're at the end of each chapter, they're easy to click out of without missing anything. I will re-post with fewer ads, and you're right, the shorter chapters can definitely do without.
but if the product did work and did make your life better then you wouldnt need to con or trick or suggest that someone buy it in a covert way then would you ,,the anti burger sugestions obviously didnt work on the fat tit at the end
So corporations use marketing gimmicks to brand themselves. How is this news, and how is this evil? Because this one woman thinks they'll use it to take over the world just because they built a town (rather than taking one). Well Ok it is Disney, and Disney is clearly evil but beyond them...
@FatherTime89 not a question of "evil". It's a question of what's best for the consumer, and if you are sold on a brand without knowing the competition which maybe doesn't have the capital to advertise and fill your brain with subliminal messages or doesn't get the product placement in big box stores because their brand isn't recognized people end up supporting inferior products by default when for maybe even less money they could have had something better if they had only know about it
@farneyblakeley Just FTR, research has shown that subliminal messages don't work (if by subliminal you mean flashing something on the screen for a microsecond or something like that).
@FatherTime89 I am not interested in studies, with my own eyes I see the conditioning that makes people (my parents among them) watch commercials with just as much attention as they give the actual program they "want" to be watching. If you don't think people are being conditioned spend some time talking to the average young person. Ask them if Crest really makes the best toothpaste or if Bounty is the quicker picker upper. The products most people use are not the best, just most well known
Could someone explain to me how this was negative in any way?
Advertising makes your product successful. And like the guy said, if it's a product that actually benefits you-I mean actually gives you some value in your life-who cares?
If the product actually benefits you, why do corporations feel the need to use so much deception in order to get it into your life? If the product is valuable and necessary, it will succeed on its own merits, without its backers usurping natural interpersonal trust, justifying paranoia, and manipulating consumers.
Most of what is sold is unnecessary -- often the product itself is useless, and ALWAYS, the means of getting the product to the consumer is detrimentally wasteful.
But is it? Or is that just your opinion of it? Are you giving me your subjective viewpoint on it?
'Detrimentally wasteful'. That's quite an interesting term. With the information revolution, and the growth of the internet, advertising has become less wasteful on the environment, and requires less resources for the advertiser. I will admit that, a lot of goods ares sold on a created need. But again, I see nothing wrong with that. What's wrong with fulfilling a need?
Additionally, what's wrong with a functioning economy based on trade of items of value?
Even if that value is perceived? I mean at its essence we value shiny stones and metals. It's scarce, and that sets the basis for an economy. Scarcity of resources and fulfilling that need. I really see nothing wrong with it. Even if you perceive it to be surreptitious and somehow malevolent. I say it's just basic human nature.

I hate it so much when people say Western world is individualistic. Individualism means you're able to take care of yourself and modern people are more helpless than ever. @tannersanta Don't be naive dude. obviously this movie opens eyes to the criminal nature of the corporate world. The whole world is full of corporate and government corruption, environmental and human rights atrocities, and virtually every other manner of human indifference and cruelty. This is all true and plain to see. But if you're smart enough to take in the historical life of the human race, it's easy to see things are better today then ever before.
@tannersanta The general public in the civilized world believe all people are the same, no matter skin color or any other matter of tribalism. Women are closer to equality to men then ever before in more places then ever before. Our life span is 3x longer than a mere 200 years ago, infant mortality is at an all time low where modern medicine is available, and modern medicine is available in more places then ever before. The world actually gets better when people try to improve it.
@tannersanta It should be clear from my first comment that I know the world is fucked in a lot of ways. I don't pretend everything is fine and that we don't need to strive for improvement. If I did, I'd become a complacent and spineless consumerist whore. But the same complacency applies when you pretend there's no hope and no point in trying to make a difference or lead by example. I really liked your channel and this video. If you need any help getting this video exposed I use a site called tubeviews (dot) net It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position.
There is software im using to send atleast 30,000 text message a day advertising my online business...it is amazing. I think they have free demos to try as well.
autotextsender (dot) com and autotextmailer (dot) com
Re-watch the video. The person speaking is someone uses the techniques he's describing, not some tinfoil hat conspiracy nut.
Also, I've seen this first hand. When Rutgers University had an exclusive contract with Coke, the contract got leaked. One stipulation was that any public speakers at Rutgers had to be given a Coke product to drink while at the podium.
I find it interesting that if you really look at all of this, human behavioral science, you can basically make a person think, act and feel a different way. It reminds me alittle bit like the Matrix movie. EAT THE BLUE PILL; or was it the red one....
I recall that back during May of 2006, right as "The DaVinci Code" opened, I was living on the Upper West Side. As I rode the subways during the film's opening week, almost train I rode would have easily a dozen people avidly reading The DaVinci Code right in their seats -- all holding the book upright so the cover was visible to everyone. And they were all just reading, reading, reading. This happened on no less than three different subway rides I took on the West Side during that whole week.
@InnocentByproduct lol ur so right and that book out was for quite some time. i had read it before it was overly popular but i remember how everyone started reading it and how a bunch of ppl in some of my classes were fighting about whether the book was real or not and how they didn't know what to think anymore. it was really funny bc they were basically advertising the book and selling it to others who hadn't yet read it.
Machbar, I had a little trouble with this chapter too. In case you've read any of my other messages, I'm writing a paper on this movie for a Radical Political Economy class. Anyway, I fully understand product placement goes beyond movies and television, but I highly doubt the majority of people experience this "undercover marketing" the way it is portrayed. As another comment said, it isn't cost effective to advertise to the average consumer
Of course their gonna advertise the dvd, so you can see it and see whats happening in the world. In North America all people think and live is WORK, TAXES, MORTGAGE, SHOPPING, TEXTING, DRINKING AND FUCKING. If you have no morals in a society, then unfortuneately you have no society.(ie) jobs goin abroad, prices on everything goin up, homes being seized, rights being taken, children being raised by an advertisement box(TV) up to 6-8 hours Per Day. IN DEBT PEOPLES DONT CAUSE TROUBLE, THEY OBEY.
unless the "target" is really rich or influential...i dont see this as being a very effective mass marketing tool. lol can you imagine how much they paid the actors? the cost of the bottles of water? the sandwiches? the cd player and cd? and even those empty boxes cost something. all for what? MABEY you will buy some bottled water and eat a sandwich. assuming you dont use a competitors product at best they break even. but then again the wages of the actors put them in the hole rofl rediculous
most people are shallow and feel compelled to show off, so they purchase brands they cannot afford. its called credit. kill your tv and cut up your credit cards!
agreed. I literally killed my TV in 2002 and have been happy ever since. You rock queen, If it were available to the public I would strap on my "cyber700 Carnal Pleasure module" and shoot my electro-load on your pixelated face.
its funny how corperations expliot people's emotions and use the tyranny of opinion to control you. they target your id(in fruedian terms) how people do help to make a substancial difference?
If you make a contribution at or buy the DVD you will be absolved of the obligation to watch the promos forever and you may skip to the next chapter with a clear conscience.
man and you know theyre on movies too. in the new movie the last mimzy. its about a rabit that has ai from intel that traveld to the past from the future! crazy shit huh.
;) though an excellent documentary, the producers do know the value of nagging. in the 14 parts which i saw untill now, i saw at least 10 publicities.
If you make a contribution at or buy the DVD you will be absolved of the obligation to watch the promos forever and you may skip to the next chapter with a clear conscience.
You watched the movie, right? Why don't they makers consider this film a Public Service? Why don't they calculate the loss? It has side-benefits, does it not? Couldn't they just say "Hey, this one's on us, we do it for the greater cause"?
@machbar so basically what you've just done here is deflected the true statement that you are doing exactly what your film condemns. i probably wouldve donated, if you werent being so ridiculous over the top about trying to get me to give you cash.
3 minute clips? are you for real? even if you split it into 10 minute segments you couldve still done your ads and we wouldnt have to be listening to you beg for cash over and over again.
Although this seems to be just a coy, tongue-in-cheek comment, I'd advise you to stop whining before the producers decide to stop sharing their excellent, FREE documentary with us...
@hannahunney I assume you're product placement too?

No offence but you made those choices. No point in undermining your credibility by placing conditions on your creativity.
If you go into a project hoping to make money then fine - but this film is completely about the money paradigm and what it s doing to us.
I stand completely by the words I wrote. You don't have to justify yourself to me or anyone nor would i ask or expect that.
But your appeal for money is a testament to the problem itself and undermines all of us working for real change.

I agree. This example seemed extreme, but interesting nonetheless.

kind of like how pepsi and coco-cola have contracts to only sell and use their products on college or high school campuses.

MABEY you will buy some bottled water and eat a sandwich. assuming you dont use a competitors product at best they break even. but then again the wages of the actors put them in the hole rofl rediculous

most people are shallow and feel compelled to show off, so they purchase brands they cannot afford. its called credit. kill your tv and cut up your credit cards!
queenwinterkat 3 years ago
agreed. I literally killed my TV in 2002 and have been happy ever since. You rock queen, If it were available to the public I would strap on my "cyber700 Carnal Pleasure module" and shoot my electro-load on your pixelated face.

I wonder if this documentary is a form of "undercover advertising" since there's so much brandishing of corporate logos...

well try making a documentary about horses without showing a few

If you make a contribution at or buy the DVD you will be absolved of the obligation to watch the promos forever and you may skip to the next chapter with a clear conscience.

Haven't you ever had to play a driving game where you have to beat certain races to get a particular brand of car?

;) though an excellent documentary, the producers do know the value of nagging. in the 14 parts which i saw untill now, i saw at least 10 publicities.

You watched the movie, right? Why don't they makers consider this film a Public Service? Why don't they calculate the loss? It has side-benefits, does it not? Couldn't they just say "Hey, this one's on us, we do it for the greater cause"?
MoaiMaea 1 year ago
@machbar so basically what you've just done here is deflected the true statement that you are doing exactly what your film condemns. i probably wouldve donated, if you werent being so ridiculous over the top about trying to get me to give you cash.
3 minute clips? are you for real? even if you split it into 10 minute segments you couldve still done your ads and we wouldnt have to be listening to you beg for cash over and over again.
for shame.
ColdAsBalls 9 months ago
Although this seems to be just a coy, tongue-in-cheek comment, I'd advise you to stop whining before the producers decide to stop sharing their excellent, FREE documentary with us...
