  • God, are we so old only we remember what back ground "static" on the radio sounds like? Still after 30 years an amazing piece of music.

  • Subbed love the Steely Don ( both) ha ha

gatitame2azul in playlist Funk Off !!!

  • where am I -- now the Dan

  • Brilliant musicianship. These guys were ahead of their time. Flawless.

  • Grapefruit wine? Kirschwasser? Zombie from the coco shell? Curevo Gold? Smooth Retsina? These guys need to come over an stock my liquor cabinet.

  • And just like that I'm driving to college back in the day

  • this is my favorite steely dan song

  • I sub. send me more of these great uploads. : D

  • Not a note out of place. Just gorgeous. Just perfect. Does music get any better than this? The Pete Christlieb solo is one of the most intelligent, groovy, nostalgic and gorgeous things I have ever heard.

  • @legendarytobi surgical precision

  • Smooth as silk sheets!

  • S.U.B.L.I.M.E.

  • Groundbreaking!!

  • For me, FM has always evoked the theme from the 60's TV show, Route 66, for some reason. There's even a similarity in the little piano vamp but mainly its an image of a radio station out in the middle of nowhere spinnin' blues and Elvis till dawn.

  • Stoned and attended W&M in 73.

  • Fuck you, we were stoned.

  • dislikes? but, but...

  • Wow, unbelievable that someone would criticize one of the greatest sax solos of all time.

  • It seems even children like this song.

  • Did anyone go see this movie when it came out? Yes...I am old! ; ) Good stuff.

  • @mamallama29 Yeah. Rotten movie. Great song. I'm old too.

  • @mamallama29 , I saw it at the movies, AWESOME funny!!!! " White nipples" comes to mind.

  • @mamallama29 sure did

  • @mamallama29 Isla Vista represent!!!

  • Jeff Porcaro!!!

  • @bucketguy88 Exactly!!

  • SuperPatrick and Gumbyman.....cut it out. Unlike this song, all I hear is static from you.

  • no static at all.....

  • Hey fellow Danfans. Did you notice it? xRainxWhenxIxDiex died! Damn you SOPA!

  • Pete Christlieb plays a great sax solo on this one and Deacon Blues..

  • Love Steely Dan back in the day when I was in radio broadcasting I played a lot of Steely Dan of course that was back in the era of records 45's & 33's and turn tables as they were called in radio however today's generation has no idea about the classic vinyl.

  • @SuperSully1980 Better late discovery than never! That's the beauty of music,it's always there to discover and re-discover!

  • Happy Birthday, Donald Fagen!

  • I'm 24, I've always liked Steely Dan's popular songs, but never really looked into all they have to offer. All I can say is I'M FUCKING HOOKED. My friend went to their concert in CT last year, and if they play one again in the North East, I'm going no matter what the cost.

They have such a wide range of music, amazing beats and great lyrics. Hope they play/create songs for another 30 years.

  • @maxEmoose36, Keep listening young man...

  • sets the mood for relaxing jazz rock...great with wine on the rocks!

  • superb

  • god. damn.

  • There will never ever be another Steely Dan, case closed.

  • @Mod60s haha I think you're right, but hope you're wrong

  • @SuperSully1980 Perfectly natural. Musical tastes tend to mature.

  • nice sax solo

  • give us some hungry reggae!

  • If I was trapped on a desert isle with ten songs to listen too, I'd want this one to be one of them!

  • Yep! This and something from Boz Scaggs, then a Puccini opera, then some Amy Winehouse, and then a few good fado songs. This song rocks. I love the pauses and sexy grind. Doesn't get much bettah!! And the sax rocks.

  • You know you are reading comments on a Steely Dan song when the childish arguments use big words.

  • Hey rockers, meet jazz fusion. Beat that sax guy? Anyone?... Anyone????

  • @4Rachy No. Quite right. I'll find it, but for now....

  • i dont think even the commodores can compete with the funk of steely dan.

  • @SuperSully1980 Check out both Fagen and Becker's solo albums as well...

  • Great song for a crummy movie.

  • Oh...nice...never heard the version with the extended sax break...me likey!

  • the sax on this is pure sacralage

  • @SuperPatrick777 "sacralage" - REALLY??? First, learn to spell it. Then learn what it means. THEN you can use it in public. Till then - shut up.

  • @malthuswasright is that all you got to say [ dick head ] , the truth still stands

  • @SuperPatrick777 Why is you can't actually reply without being abusive? Says a lot about you though. As for your "truth", you wouldn't know the truth if it came up and hit you in the face with a haddock, my foul-mouthed friend...

  • @malthuswasright go away will you ... gulp gulp gulp ., listen to that guitar sound .

  • @SuperPatrick777 i have to agree you just know that was donald's idea makes it sound like some piece of shit from staurday night live

  • @SuperSully1980 Welcome into the Light Kari!

  • I have listened to Steely Dan since the Golden Age of FM Radio from the late 60's to early 70's.......

  • i feel sorry for some of my friends who wont even give a chance to band like this, because they prefer current pop music. their loss. steely dan, you guys are great!

  • is the reprise on here, somewhere? ya know, where it goes waaa.waaa waaaa and i can't tell if it is donald or a brass instrument or a synthesized sound. cool

  • what is a dayum? is that like daaaaaaaaamn!

  • Back in the day when I was 15 I was at a party with "older" folks, most were 17-19. The music stopped so I put in a SD 8-track. I immediately became the coolest person in the room. They were all like "dayum, that kid's got it."

  • From someone who worked in FM radio in the 70-80's... perfect!

  • thank u steely dan.great music ,whenever i here u guys it just brings me back/an i get all happy inside....love u

  • @SuperSully1980 you got that right baby...keep listening to that 70s classic rock!!!

  • @buckeye6382

  • @agfagaevart No, Pete Christlieb, who used to play in The Doc Severinson Band on The Tonight Show!

  • @mrJimCharles

Thanks. I thought of Wayne Shorter, as he played on their Aja album.

  • Back in college I used to sit back in my apartment and smoke some weed and listen to Steely Dan. I miss those days.

  • I bought this double album in '78 when this movie came out.

  • great song!!!

  • Skoundrel....I've seen theme a dozen times and have never heard them play "do it again".

  • @SuperSully1980 Welcome to the party. Glad to have you.

  • i'm the wrong side of 50 .and it still does it....

  • @SuperSully1980 Never too late to discover great music! I'm in my mid-30's and just discovered a love for music my parents used to play when I was just a kid.....music I used to make fun of! Now I get it.

  • @beauteandamour Try listening to this tune as a teenager in the 70s when it first hit the airways.

  • @G8GT364CI

I remember when this movie was released, and this track got loads of airplay on UK radio. I've been trying to get a copy of the DVD but...$196 on Amazon????

    WTF???

  • @agfagaevart It's $226, now... imho... Is very Odd!

  • @StelyDn

    Huh????

    I don't understand this...

  • @agfagaevart on Ebay, FM DVD is $226 USD...

And I find it Odd. thats it soo much...

  • @StelyDn you need to look in the right catalog...try critic's choice .com and see if they have it

  • @Alexandernero666 I agree, but there was another poster, who was talking about the price of the DVD...

And I looked it up, I was kinda surprised, on the price.

  • Love that monstrous bass line - it stalks the landscape like Godzilla.

  • i think this is one of their best songs, saw them in adelaide only a week ago and they didn't play this song or "do it again" it was an awesome show but i really wished they played those two. (listen to this loud with some cans on, soooooo sweet)

  • The tenor solo is pure East Coast jazz at it's finest.

  • Good times and great feelings! Thanks for posting.

  • I am always standing right here next to the DAN

  • Steely Dan always been one of my favorite bands..I been around for a while and I still enjoy listening to their music....

  • @Timmmahhhh, LOL. You make a great arguement and I can't disagree at all. They're soooooo talented: Literatly a musical brilliance that hadn't yet been explored...

  • can someone please post fm reprise from this soundtrack

  • saw the movie years agooooooooooooo loved it

  • @MrGoonerforlife Thanks, I will have to watch it - just about everything I've seen written pans it. But one helluva soundtrack.

  • Greatest sax solo/outro ever.

  • @gumbyman540 absolute crap , the sax totally distroyed this track

  • @SuperPatrick777, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Could listen to it over and over and over and over and... I like your use of words, "Sacralage".

  • @gumbyman540 blah blah blah ,"could listen to it over and over again " , the sax on the end of that track is pure poison and joined together with super glue .

  • @StupidPatdick777 , is that a toilet that I here flushing? No, it's just StupidPatdick777 spewing his leachate orfice. Gonna play the sax parts now, over and over. The best sax ever. If you don't like it, too friggin' bad. You, StupidPatdick, have removed all doubt. Go superglue your earholes, infidel.

  • @gumbyman540 wash your ears out you disconcerning moron

  • @SuperPatrick777 , lick my bunghole, you bicameral infidel wastecase. If you don't like this beautiful song, then, by all means, take your sorry and stupid carcass elsewhere, dickhead.

  • @gumbyman540 talking about being brain dead , and a queer to boot , i have send countless posts and it has not sunk in yet , that i did not say i did not like the track , it was is the trash sax version i hate , and has totally ruined the track .

  • @SuperPatrick777 , talk about being a bicameral horse's ass and a poor judge of musical genius. You, StupidPatdick, have removed all doubt. Now, go creampie your boyfriend, jackass. You're like a bee sting on a hemorrhoid, Elroy.

  • @SuperPatrick777 I'm all ears, give me a better sax.

  • @Dactuck

i suggest you listen to pink floyd

  • @gumbyman540 simply no disernment , only mindless name calling , you would not know a good sax if you had twice the intelligence you have now , and that's not much .

  • @StupidPatdick777 , I forgot about you, simpleton, which isn't too hard to do. You need professional help or need to find a constructive hobby, loser. If I want any more $ h 1 t from you, then, I'll squeeze your skull. Gonna play that sax outro, now, over and over. My top comment must be eating at you. Now, go find a girlfriend (boyfriend, in your case), a hobby or take a long walk off of a short pier, infidel. You're like a bee sting on a hemorrhoid, pinhead.

  • @gumbyman540 what ever your pee brain tells you about me , you have to respond , the truth about your warpt opinion does not bother me at all , your just pitysom .

  • @StupidPatdick777, you have removed all doubt, loser. "What ever"? Really? More like "whatever". You are the pea brain and "bad taste" bicameral infidel. If you don't like the greatest sax solo ever, then get the f u c k off this site, @ $ $ h o l e.

  • @gumbyman540

that's it , you keep digging

  • @StupidPatdick777, blah, blah, blah. Don't have to dig far with you. You're too easy to get wound up. So tell me SuperPatrick777, why do you loathe the sax on this ballad? Please do reveal, SuperPatrick777. Good jousting with you. Giants or Patriots? Spyro Gyra fan? Care for the sax on Michael McDonald's sweet freedom 12" club mix version? SuperPatrick777, are you there?

  • @SuperPatrick777 Ha. Too Good.

  • @SuperPatrick777 , destroyed, dickhead.

  • @gumbyman540

    Uh Huhh!!!

  • Great great song....I love the sax outro.

  • Great song & movie!!

  • Great song, great movie who saw it........

  • ...One of the ugliest bands of all time - But they had the 'Sonic Alchemy' as no other could fullfill. Bravo Steely, bravo....

  • @arromac With the coming of video maybe that's why they broke up in 1981...hmmmm, first year of MTV, LOL! No images of Fagen in New Frontier in 1982. Ugly never ever sounded so good though, you are so right about he sonic alchemy! Not to mention the most incredible sax solo ever, this and the single version both.

  • Hey! You cut out Skunk Baxter's solo!

  • Great Song. Greatly underappreciated movie

  • is he saying funked up music or fucked up music?

  • @able506 Who cares?

  • @able506 funked

  • @able506 actually it's: funked up muzak... :)

    Awesome tune!

  • @able506 retarded

  • The Eagles on BG vocals believe it or not

  • that bass groove is exquisite...

  • Well...I guess I am one the only one's that actually enjoyed the movie FM why? Because back then that's how FM radio was and while yes the movie was cheesy at spots..some of the parts of the movie were spot on, only those in the industry might understand, decent nontheless!!!

  • @MikeCasa78 i too love the movie and the music in it.

  • This version is a fakey edit made by splicing the original single onto most of its B-side, called "FM Reprise". It first appeared on the CD-version of Steely Dan Gold as one of the four bonus tracks. Apparently the dynamic duo preferred Tom Scott's sax work to Walter Becker's guitar solo. Hard to argue, but I still don't care for it.

The original, full-length version can be found on the FM movie soundtrack.

The original single is simply this version with an early fadeout.

  • @Tabbbycat It looks like I am not the only one who noticed this. I used to have the 45 and I remember the outro being a guitar but on the b-side which started just before the sax solo then went instrumental into the second verse which is right were the splice takes place.

  • I listen to Steely Dan every single day!!! everything on the cd is AWESOME

  • i played this version of FM to the version i have on my itunes, which is the very original version with the guitar ending solo instead of the saxophone (this version) & this version with the sax is just slightly faster xD

  • In the 70's there were a few music labels and a lot of talent.

So much talent that every person that played in Steely Dan went on to form their own band or already had their own band, like Lee Ritenour.

Jeff Porcoro, Steve Luthiker, Both formed "Toto"

John and Randy Brecker formed "Spyro Gyra"

Nicolette Larson had a smash hit, Martha Davis formed "The Motels", Vanetta Williams was in the "Shondels", Rikki Lee Jones had a Huge Album.

Michael McDonald Joined the Doobie Brothers. Ect.

    Echos now.

  • SupernalOne- Did some digging and found out "FM" was released April '78. WKRP was from Sept. '78 thru April '82 so I'd say you hit the nail right on the head. Good job and Rock On!

  • god i love that saxxxxxx

  • @bigadda1969 Pete Christlieb, he use to play in Johnny Carson's Tonight Show Band, that's where Don and Walt heard him. He also plays the "Deacon Blues" solo.

  • stand and respect CLASSIC

  • The only thing constant is great music AND change. "Nothing but blues and Elvis". FM

  • Hey, girls, wear your FM shoes :)

  • was WKRP Cincinnati a spin-off of the movie that this song was title track to? Seems possible -

  • Jeff Porcaro plays drums on this, pure perfection and feel

  • what album is this off of
