Berganza was extraordinary in Rossini her Cenerentola, Rosina and L' Italiana were fabulous. She sang these to perfection. The only Mezzo I thoroughly enjoyed in these roles. Horne was something so rare and seperate I would say Bartoli is more like Berganza and sounds good in this music.
@bodiloto are in agreement, finally someone who speaks the truth. Berganza's voice is a soprano for Gilda. I do not know how he did it to make a career that has made
Luckily in Spain great singers such as E. Hidalgo, M. Fleta, A. Kraus, T. Berganza, M. Caballe, P. Domingo, P. Lavirgen, A. Arteta, J. Carreras, J. Aragall, Maria Jose Moreno, Celso Albelo, Ismael Jordi, Jose Bros, Dalmacio González, Carlos Alvarez, Pilar Lorengar, etc.
@MadameBorgi have left a good school and many of them are starting singing in large venues in the world I do not think the Spanish school of singing is finished, what happens is that Kraus and Berganza there is only one and one are unique and unrepeatable, but have left very good students in our country today.
I think that, no metter who sings it, this piece is always beautiful, 'cause Rossini's music is PERFECT. Also he was very lucky 'cause he had a GREAT librettist Cesare Sterbini.
I heard Maria Callas, she's always beautiful, but I think she has a voice too mature for this role. Rossini wrote this aria for a mezzo soprano, so even though soprano's can sing it effortlessly, the result is different!
I think every singer has is own "aria" and this one is for Teresa Berganza.
I´ve seen and listens so many versions of this song and she is by far my favourite. I don´t mean others don´t do it right, but Berganza´s performance is so, so emotional and gracious. She seems meant for this role. Thanks for posting!
This is sung with excellent technique, the way it should be sung. The most important thing is that it is the original, for a mezzo. Sopranos since Adelina Patti transcribed it and changed cadenzas, but it is a wreck for them because it was written for a different throat. Not a good idea to mess with Rossini, whose writing is "scuola di canto." And there are (or were) specialized Rossini singers, so it is risky to get into the Rossini rep if one is not a specialist.
The perfect Rosina !!! She has all !!! Makes no vocal errors , all notes are clear , brilliant , impressive , charm ..perfect acting ..what else to ask ?? HIstorical performance i would say and give not onyl 5 rates but all stars of the sky !!!!
Very good indeed. But a few pronunciation problems (it has to be 'trappole' with double 'p' not 'trapole') and some nuances in the interpretation are missing (giving meaning to the score and the words). On the whole, a brilliant performance, though, with good legato (but in 'Io sono docile' the acciaccature are not well performed, hear Callas' version and the master class on this aria).
i love her transition from the low to the high notes. It sounds simply beautiful. I am an instant Teresa Berganza fan! Her voice is dark but crystal clear. Amazing.
As far as I'm concerned, she was the greatest Rossini mezzo of the 20th century. Her fiorature are articulated without being aspirated. And her characterizations were always right on the money. Her complete recordings of this, Cenerentola, and L'Italiana are all stupendous. 6/6
Amazing that this Spanisch mezzo keeps up performing up to this very day. She clearly took good care of her voice. Even though she gives us some nice top note's in this performance. Rich and creamy sound. 5/5
