I played the Maynard part of this at a St. Louis U basketball game in the late 70's. Since I couldn't rotary breathe on trumpet, I made sure I had a chair locked behind my knees. Sure enough, at the end of the long note, the room started spinning and I passed out. I had blown my chops, so I could only hit the last three notes. No one really cared about my blown chops since I was actually the drummer!

Love Maynard et al but swear he looks more like Dusty Rhodes in this video than himself.
I'll always love Maynard. He was my gateway into jazz.
