  • Song Like a Led Zeppelin Track "In My Time of Dyin"

  • sounds like a Led Zeppelin song

  • that boy sure can slay a slide and he knows the blues thank god

  • almost sounds like in my time of dying by led zepp

  • what is this song called? i wanna learn it! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Death Letter, a cover of a song by Son House and Grinin' in Your Face, which I think is traditional.

  • thank you!

  • I wish I was there. :)

  • Wish I could play slide like him... *drools*

  • Jack White is the baddest Motherfucker on the planet, I think you would agreeT.K?

  • pure genius

  • At 6:01, when they break into that last part - goosebumps!

  • I had goosebumps too !

  • any open tuning is good for slide...this is in open A, on the album it is open G

  • fabulous!

  • Cool

What other tunings are good for slide?

  • The best power duo on planet earth ....

    please return

  • Tune D# G# D# G# C D To play it like Son House did on Night Music in 1967, available here on you tube. Every version I've heard of this song I think is just fucking great!

Got to love the finger sheath!

  • fuuuuuuckkknnnn ssssssssshiittt!! well well well Jack white... brilliant!

  • It's a Kay.

  • Does anybody know what kind of guitar that is?

  • Son House meets Rocky Horror Show.

  • The Best 7 min in Music history of ALL TIME!

  • yes it is

  • is it from Under blackpool lights?

  • Yep

  • thanks.

    awesome performance

  • WOW!!

If I hear one more person say Jon Mayer is the guitarist of our generation I'm going to smack them in the face

  • @CaptainKirk712 I disagree with that comment as well sir. However, Jon Mayer is one fucking hell of a bluesman.

  • @DAKMAIN No way, he takes all the soul out of anything he plays so it sounds stagnant and overproduced. Thats no blues I've ever heard of. He's definitely never brought anyone's music and made it into something like this.

  • @CaptainKirk712

Your a fucking idiot. completely different players.

  • @odie10000

    Not shit dumbass

  • If anybody knows what tuning he is really on, let me know, cause i cant seem to get it right, theres always somethin that sounds a little out.

  • i dont know what he is tuned to here, specifically, but he uses that guitar when he plays seven nation army, and he is tuned to open A in that song. so use your own judgement there.

  • I think its just open G tuning (D G D G B D)and his guitar is a little out of tune sounding with the slide, but in a good way.

  • Yep. Open G. Pretty standard when playing a slide. There are many different variations of open tuning. I use Open D on my acoustic guitar a lot. Open D (D A D F# A D).

  • great

  • glad to see some rock musicians keeping the spirit of the blues alive.

  • This show is like watching one of those really deep movies that you're mesmerized by the first time you watch it, but no matter how many times you view it you always pick up more subtleties that blow your mind each time. I catch myself saying, "I've watched this clip a million times but I never noticed he hit that note, that's crazy!!" That's what makes The White Stripes truly amazing.

  • thank you meg & jack for rocking my world!

  • this performance shows why jack white is not far off becoming a rock and roll, guitar legend.......if he isn't one already

  • I'd say a blues Legend ;)

  • of course, a blues legend as well

  • amen.

  • The Kay (that guitar) I think is the open A guitar, whereas the Crestwood is E...I THINK!

  • how is he tuned? anyone know?

  • low to high, E,A,E,A,C#,E

    slide open a

  • aight thanks!

  • The blackpool dvd was filmed over two nights. Apparantly it was an idea of Meg's to have jack have obnoxious on one night, and noxious on the other. You know what the white stripes are like so just live with it.

  • Bertie did it ever occur to you that maybe OB was underneath his shirt, therefore making OBNOXIOUS

  • ah, "Death Letter." my heart stops everytime i see or hear a their live performance(s) of this song.

    THRILLING.

  • im buying this dvd, and having sex with it every night, all of these videos are amazing

  • hahaha

  • lmfao

  • this is from the blackpool lights dvd whitch i have

  • punch an infant....you like dane cook??

  • oh shit, is Dane Cook's mediocrity bleeding into society?

    ugh.

  • haha

  • what's that a reference too?

  • i meant reference to, not reference also.

  • nice one, my Mom's dead.

  • I still love it.

  • Way better than Hendrix's sloppy play.

  • Jack white is as good as hendrix.

  • um hes extremely good but I wouldn't compare him to Hendrix dude

  • Yeah. I'd say that is a bit insulting to compare the two so loosely. I'm not saying that Jack White doesn't have crazy chops(which I am a fan of) but Hendrix? No, man.

  • Exactly

  • love them. absolutely incredible. jack white thank you for being the greatest guitar player--right up there with hendrix.

  • Hendrix? I don't think so. But he is definitely very talented.

  • He will be, either before or after he dies. Hopefully before.

  • what concert is this anybody no?

  • Blackpool i believe

  • Under the Blackpool Lights - you can get it on DVD

  • under the blackpool lights,i think, you can purchase it on amazon for like 14 bucks man

  • jack is the ripper

  • this song alone made me fall in love with the white stripes

  • Well, this is just awesome.

  • Also Jack does use the whammy often.

He's the master of that thing.

  • its not a whammy its a slide. but he still uses it alot. and well.

  • yeah it is a whammy pedal

  • never mind.

  • Alright you guys, JACKS SOUND DOESN'T COME FROM THE MUFF. When he goes to solo, and everything gets all fuzzed out, thats the muff. Jack's main tone is not coming from a pedal.

Also that's not a tattoo. That's a little joke they played. I think it's marker.

  • when did jack get a tat? this is a good cover!

  • thats just what i was thinking,I"ve seen more recent footage of him and I"ve never noticed it.

  • it was fake, the concert was filmed over 2 days and they did this illusion thin where he gets a "tatoo" of NOXIOUS on his arm and then the second day the made it say OBNOXIOUS. dont ask y, its jack white

  • Cool cheers for that mate.

  • what was fake?

this is supposed to be a film, it was released in theatres in the uk as well. you don't take only one take when shooting a scene right? same deal here, two shows = two takes, pick the best take. thats how it is kid.

even martin scorcese did it, he filmed 3 rolling stones show for one upcoming movie, incidentally starring jack white as well and you better believe he's employing the same technique.

  • what r u talking about? i meant the tatoo on his arm, my god

  • LOL

It's amazing how people take things out of context and wig the elf out!

  • his play is mordor!

  • catch hell blues is much newer

  • Anyone that dont feel the passion and energy that flows out from Jack's guitar and Meg's drum kit, dont know nothing about music and especially blues music!!!the White Stripes ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that's truth, I admit :)

i am addicted to their music since the moment i've heard it for the first time...

    jack and meg totally rock!!!

  • Wow! This sucks!!!

  • aww, poor child, you're probably deaf and blind... bless you

  • yeah i got that dvd..kicks ass

  • could easily switch over to Catch Hell Blues

  • yea i think he is gonna do that

  • I love this so much. It's better than the album version.

  • Its from the 'Live Under Blackpool Lights' DVD - probably the best Stripes performance you are likely to see and all on a handy DVD - BUY IT!!!!!

  • is it Death Letter?

  • Embarassed to ask....I love this song but can't remember what its called?

  • yeah, it's death letter

  • Thank God for creating The White Stripes.

But here in Norway has almost no one heard about them and in my street only i like their music.

    Its Lonley

  • you still have us on you tube

  • this is fucking awesome!! thank you

  • i love the white stripes!!!!

  • is he using a whammy pedal in parts of the solo?

  • It's probably an overdrive...dirts it up real good in there a couple times, huh?

  • big muff pedal actually...

  • i dunno man around 2:40 it sure sounds a lot like a whammy pedal in addition to whatever distortion he's getting from the big muff pi.

  • he has an octave pedal that can put it up or down an octave

  • jack white is really underated!!!! sick tune from blackpool lights dvd

  • JACK WHITE IS A BADASS MOTHER F@#$ER

  • amen

  • :O

    mncanta

  • doesent this sound a lot like zz top's 'tush'

  • zz top sounds like son house

  • if ur deaf

  • Thanks, Jeremy95! This is incredible.

  • The White Stripes covering Son House. That very idea makes it worth watching this video. I can dig it, man, I love the White Stripes.

  • Duane is by fam my favorite. Jack is pretty badass for our time though...but seriously underrated

  • Just because he play slide does not make him a rip off of Jimmy, in my time is freakin awesome though.

  • allman bothers???

  • i agree

  • dude jack and meg chemistry is the best in rock and roll history. they are the epitome of teamwork.

  • They both use slide guitar, and have similar chords, but then again, Page was not breaking new ground with that song. They're both slide blues

  • GGGGGGGOooooooooooooooooDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD is the guitar for this simply amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i wish i was Jack WHite i would rock sooo much he is the best in the wolrd!!!!!

  • What's the name of this song? Which album too?

  • It's "Death Letter" off of De Stijl.

But this live version is about 10 times better.

  • y is it thats always the case...?

  • well the recording of the whole album was pretty cheaply done. you get real kick with the live version. but the rough recording is part of the appeal

  • If you want to see this whole concert, I made a play list of all of the songs from this concert on youtube in order. Its called White Stripes:Under the Blackpool lights

  • oh man I can't wait til July 22...live...

  • where?

  • godDAMN!

  • i have this dvd, it kicks ass

  • great!

  • Bear witness! Rock is not dead people!!!!

  • When Jack drops this tune down into hell at 4:03, it's as if he's offering satan himself that groove in exchange for my charred soul, I love it.

  • oh yeah, i know what you mean.

  • Absolutely brilliant performance. Much better than the album version, I reckon.

  • stripes at their best! son house is a legend as well!! i love this song as you can tell by my username

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • DEATH LETTER

  • What's the name of this song anyway?

  • White Stripes - Death letter

  • fuck yaaaaaaaaa

  • I added this last month, but never commented? I'm lame. This performance is orgasmic. I bow down to the altar that this man has created! Woo! But that part where there's no music and he and meg "sing" together is uncomfortable. Glad it only lasted a little while. Then back to the face rocking! Wow. I'll be up for the rest of the night now. haha.

  • this is AWESOME

  • jack white is GOD!

  • Son House mixed with Rory Gallagher.

  • I love how these kids have no idea they're cheering for son house.... jack really created a signature slide sound that is great

  • I thought this was a Stones show.. . if it was at a Stones show, the audience was probably not kids.

  • the song is "In My Time Of Dying". They do have a lot of similarities.

  • thanks a lot! it is really paralell

  • i think that to

  • jack- half Page, half Plant, meg is Bonham (haha), but where is John Paul Jones? :), OLD ROCK is back again. yeah

  • they don't need a john paul jones:P

  • But Led Zeppelin needed JPJ. And The Stripes aren't Led Zeppelin, a completely different band, I don't know why people are comparing them.

  • no i know but peolpe do so i say thay don't need one because they are good as they are. best band of the moment! \,,/

  • this is just great.

don't you know which led zeppelin song is like this in the beginning? its so familiar but cannot remember

  • uber koel

  • Wow I've seen them live they are amazing. Where was this shot? It' a brilliant clip of the White Stripes at their best.

  • WOW! ZEPPELIN is most certainly proud of these two!NEW CLASSICS!

  • Show us the way, Jack White. Jack White for Lord!

  • Where's this footage from? It's really amazing

  • This is a great version of the song. I bought the dvd that this is on and it is amazing!

  • lol nice drummer =D and great song ^^ 5 stars

  • Blues power!!!

  • Amazing. It just doesn't get any better then this. Jack White is a tremendous musician and an entertainer. He works so hard; has so much fun.

  • what is this song called, it's amazing, its good to see that someone still likes the blues and can play it. Blues is the best, and it's been so long since i've seen a good new guitar player with a slide none-the-less

  • "Death Letter" originally by Blues legend Son House.

  • i agree with demented20 all the way. what happened to the blues? it is the root of pretty much all music. people just dont know where they came from. the white stripes are by far the best 2 piece band ever. jack white is the best guitarists EVER.

  • Great cover of a great song by a great band.

Anyone who rags on his singing and guitar or even her drums just doesn't "get" the blues.

Go listen to Stevie Ray Vaugn.... not that theres anything wrong with that... its just y'know. White.

  • You are absolutely right.
