  • orribile!

  • Laughable(sorry)

Take a reject costume from The Magic Flute(stars) and a costume from Boheme(bed quilt) Mix it all with pseudo medical claptrap and there you have it,or rather don't!

  • "Suddenly Last Stuart"?

It would be laughale if it wasn't tha tpeople had pay to see it!

  • I see what the director was going for here, though I don't think it succeeded. The scene becomes rather comical, which takes away from the emotional power of The Confrontation Scene.

  • La regia non ha senso. Brava Elena come sempre.

  • Donizetti would have been so happy... XD

  • Qué tipo de montaje es eso? jeans y mini faldas en el siglo XVI? muy malo...

  • That is an asylum or something like that isn't it? The man with white shirt made me think that way...What is it I mean, poor Donizetti!!!

  • Shame and burning in hell for the stage director.

  • Absolutly. WTF is this ESPANTOSO MONTAJE?

  • Sorry to disagree with nearly everyone...but I LOVE it! Maria Stuarda is one of my favourite operas and I love the fact the director has taken a whole new approach to it. I don't totally understand the concept, but it looks interesting enough to me. I certainly would love to have seen this live.

  • Don't be sorry to disagree; you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is. :-)

  • Haha cheeky! I can understand why it might concern people though seeing as this is a bel canto opera...but other than the strangling, I don't think there was anything that took away from the beautiful singing, they were all in marvelous voice!

  • i have seen it... thrice... and absolutely loved it. the concept is: two codependent opera-primadonnas looong past their prime relive their best and worst days... solely in their immagination. friends, nurses, doctors in this asylum-like dwelling are employed as protagonists in the play that goes on and on in their mind... very convincing dramaturgy and a real pleasure for my ears. the video doesn't catch even a hint of the intensity of the evening. this was at the berlin state opera...

  • Well it would be amusing if the poor audience hadn't had to shell out a few hundred euros to watch some fine singers be humiliated by a production team completely trapped in its own arrogance. Monstrously stupid trash..

  • Well I would be happy to shell out some cash to hear singing like this, no matter the production.

  • Whatever Happened To Baby Stuart?

    Hush, Hush, Sweet Maria?

    Edie Beale sings Maria Stuarda?

  • hahahaha... I think it is funny.... not tradtional, and not Donizetti, but I give credit to the singers, they pulled it off.... Everytime I watch it I laugh....

  • OMG I Hate when this happens to the GREAT GREAT Composers.... and just to let you all know i am not some old person that is set in my way iam 32 I dont aprove of this nonsence...singing was ok i feel for the lady,s any thing to get on stage They could not pay me to make and Azz of my self with this kind of production.... some on wrote just close yours eyes...

  • The production is so unpleasant to look at, but the kicking was just outrageous. Stuarda is apparently paraplegic, crazy. I cant believe they let the director do trash like this. LIke the singing though.

  • 0-:

  • Well Elisabeth won that round.

  • I just feel sorry for the artists that have to put up with all directors trying to find an impossible angle to the story. I agree with the last comment - just listen!

  • Where was this production (?) staged?

  • Donizetti, "Maria Stuarda" Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin) Premiere: 29. September 2006 * Conductor: Alain Altinoglu * Stage director: Karsten Wiegand * Set design: Alain Rappaport * Costume: Britta Leonhardt Elisabetta: Katarina Karnéus Maria Stuarda: Elena Mosuc Roberto: José Bros Giorgio Talbot: Christof Fischesser Lord Guglielmo Cecil: Arttu Kataja Anna Kennedy: Constance Heller Staatskapelle Berlin & Staatsopernchor
  • Thank you.

  • you're welcome! :-)

  • It's fine once you close your eyes!

  • Lord I feel like I just smoked dope! Donizetti must be turning over in the grave, but I've never laughed so hard. Loved how Mosuc choked the bitch! But in the other clip Liz got her good cutting her throat. God knows Dillon, save me from this mental ward! I'd loved to have read how the critics wrote about this! Ernesto

  • is it just me or it's barely audible?

the setting kinda damages the whole scene both vocally and emotionally.

I laughed my ... off when she kicked Mosuc though lol

  • Sorry for the audio. I agree I laughed my ... off when I watched it also. So I had to post it...

  • @coloraturafan Only if 5:59 actually hit its intended target...

  • Love the film, and the opera but I'm not too sure about this concept. I don't like this setting at all. The singing sounds great though.

  • very good
