Love rollin down 40, I remember when tdot had it closed down a few years back. I was pullin a tanker at the time. Rockslide! some of the guys rollin it regular were sayin 244 dump truck loads of rock, is what they jacked up, loaded up, and yanked out of there to get 40 open again. If its warm, and its rained for more then 3/4 days in a row, a guy has to watch them rocks for sure. Specially w/that early mornin Springtime fog.

i use to run tru there twice a day,i loaded in jefferson city tn with lime and back to sc for sand to bring back to nc,600 miles a day

I love the gorge. Such a beautiful stretch.

I only ran it a few times, so it never got old for me.

@nightowlvg I dont think it would ever get old to me..So glad they have reopened it after that last rock slide, but some of my detours around it have been loads of fun!!

@nightowlvg I love it as well. I drove a truck for years, and up until recent I can't any longer, as I have to deal with some cancer issues and lots of surgery from the same, but if ever I am given the chance to do it again I would say that it was and still is one of my favorite places to run through.

The actual trip through the Gorge is about 25-30 miles, at 50 mph...Yes, the song is Running Blind, by Godsmack....

Nice video littletrucker brings back allot of memories of when I lived in Bryson City NC. That was the first thing I would see when leaving home and was always glad to see them mountains on the way back in. Moved to Cincinnati, Slowhio now. I run all northeast so I haven't seen them mountains in about four years. Thanks for the great video. Be safe out there.

50 is for safety.. You would not believe how many trucks come through here too quickly and flip over! It is one of my favorite roads!!

Just for your info, many of our inclines (Declines) have a heavy vehicle restriction to 40 Km/h (about 25 Mp/h) here in Australia.

To be honest, if drivers lived by the maxim of "go down the hill in the gear you WOULD have come up in" (assuming a good jacobs brake) there would be no need for such restrictions, but a number drivers are drovers - hence the laws!
