some jackass wrote that trower wasnt fit to lick hendrix's boots and that half the world would agree. that may be one of the most ignorant things ever said
if rollingstone left him out of the top 100 their a bunch of friggin idiots, he should be in the top 6 awesome guitarists, and bridge of sighs is one of the best albums ever
I saw Robin Trower two nights in a row at Winterland in the spring of 1975. Also on the bill was Journey, pre-steve perry and the warm up was Pablo Cruise. Leave it to Bill Graham to put Pablo Cruise on the same bill as Journey & Trower. Anyway, I think this video is from that show. It was so awesome the first night that I had to come back for the next. I can't thank you enough for putting the vid up. What ever happened to all of the video that was shot over the years at winterland?
Yes! One of the all time greats. Saw him at the Cotati Caberet. A small club in N. Calif. Opened with Day of the Eagle. Everyone leaped onto the dance floor and never left.
Saw him in the 70's outdoor concert in Phoenix AZ with other groups, and back in them days outdoor desert concerts could range in sounds from usually muddy to echo...but Robin Trowers sound was so strong and pure! It was to die for! (but I lived) If you were there, pls. comment, as I am not the historin to those times, but I wa there.
i just found out who he is...he clearly has worked very hard to sound as close to Hendrix as possible--he really really...really does. And that's a good thing for sure. I love his sound and his versatility. And this is just a personal thing, but I wish he sounded a little less like Hendrix and found his own really unique sound. Then again, if someone heard me play guitar, they'd probably say I sound like a Trey/Clapton rip off lol.
@RMT7312 If you can't hear the difference in his playing then you don't have an ear for music! He "has" developed his own unique sound and tone and even at 65 is doin' it up like he did in his 20's! He happened to be buds with Hendrix and they jammed in London but Trower, since the beginning has worked on his own style that an ear for music can decifer!
@pike9346 no ear for music? ya I suppose youre right. I'm just a self-taught guitarist, pianist, and singer, born with absolute pitch...no big deal. If you cant hear the similarities in the tone, than you certainly have no ear. His very emphatic vibrato, the notes he chooses, the phrasing in each measure or half measure, the use of dominant sevenths, his effects, the pickups in the guitar he uses. I study guitar solos and the character of every note. Don't tell me about an ear for music.
@pike9346 but I do like his playing very much, so don't think I'm undermining the skill of one of your favorite artists. He is unique, every guitarist is. It just screams Hendrix more than any guitarist I've ever heard besides the man himself.
@captinvideo1 I agree 1000% after all its rolling stone mag they left out a bunch and I would say around 60 who did make it shouldnt even be in the top million on anyones pole
Awesome. I was at this show I was thirteen and it was my first concert ever. If it is the one from winterland, Wishbone ash and Eddie Money opened up the show. He was the reason I started playing guitar and continue to play even at 48.
@jasilvapt yourthinken of the next show trower did at winterland. This show opened with Steve Marriot and Tommy Bolin. I remember Eddy Money openin the next trower concert.
@plumpjoint yeah, I'm a Gibson fan over Fender, but Robin is so fluid it has got to be partially the axe that gets him to that point, so kudos to Fender
have seen Robin 3 times in and around Chicago. Got to meet and greet with him in Elgin,Il. Coolest dude to sit and talk with and OMG what a f---ing amazing guitarist!
The closest we can......to a time machine! I plan on catching two shows in Baton Rouge LA and New Orleans this coming Feb........But the past is the past....Thank you for finding this stuff and putting it up for every one to experience. Live forever the right to post and view over the net these remarkable videos.........Thanks!
An under-appreciated artist if ever there were. Thank goodness for this YouTube stuff or we would have lost Trower's work forever...and the late great Dewar and Lordan also deserve props they never received. I was 17 and living in Palo Alto when this was recorded. I didn't see it live but I had the disks and I wore them out.
THE MAN !! I`m a player & this man absolutely makes the hair on my neck stand up . Great video for the time. He`s tearin it up at the end of this. I love that modulation, and so does Robin by the look on his face !
Had this in my favs and it vanished. What happened, the music police caught up with ya? Thank's for putting it back. Now, if I can find the, Messin the blues, that also vanished, youl'll have made my day.

Having said that, this was Trower at his finest. So confident, so lyrical. Historical video.
