I purchased an Apogee Duet and the sound was unreal...VERY clear. I did however have a problem with "static" in the recording. The solid body aluminum style casing (almost identical to the new unibody macbook pro's) somehow conducts or can discharge a very slight amount of static electricity. I tried 7 different combinations of inputs and all 7 had the static.

I ended up with a Tascam US-144.. slightly less sound quality...but more sound CLARITY. Finally satisfied.

Sounds like you had a defective Duet or cable. There are no problems with static on a properly working unit.

You should have contacted your dealer or us about a replacement. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

Gotta Ultralite for about the same price. It has eleventeen inputs. Hard to believe the Duet sounds so much better that it would be the better buy. Is this possible?

Yes. Came from a Presonus Firestudio Tube (800 USD)--16 inputs. The difference was amazing. So much more headroom. More clarity. Less Latency. Better behavior at 96k. More silent, more portable, sleeker. Just better all around. The only thing i would add would be an Apogee Ensemble if i needed more i/o :p.

@mahzmusic...the duet works seamlessly with garageband as does the firebox. I have Cubase on the PC and Logic on the mac. I use the Firebox for my cubase projects and i use the duet for my logic projects. LIke i said its the preamp in the duet that makes it prestine. For the 300-600 range in soundcards, theres not one better in terms of sound quality. Motu Ultralite comes in second.

I got the apogee duet my mac recognizes it in and outs lights up when I speak into condenser mic but I am getting no output to the head phones connected to my apogee wtf iz wrong????:()

Check in Maestro if the phantom power is on. I don't own one of these, but I've run into that problem with a bunch of interfaces that don't have a hardware switch for 48v phantom.

Yo...some of you guys posting on here are friggin nutz!!! I have the firebox and the duet. The duet sounds WAAAAY better. I love the firebox, dont get me wrong but the Apogee converters and Preamps cannot be compared to any other device in the 300-1000 range im sorry. The Duet has the same pres and converters as the Ensemble. The only reason i bought the duet was for its preamps...

The firebox is better than this, and sounds better, I have both, the duet is overrated, even the Guitar Rig Session interface sounds better than this, I have both and the cirrus logic converters are just as good as the Apoggee converters.

now what i dont get is how people are comparing the apogee duet to the pro tools mbox firewire. technically yes, mbox has more flexibility with ins and outs. excellent. however it is proprietary to pro tools? what if you want to use logic? personally i find pro tools over rated, my guess is you also own a cheap assed martin just becuase its got a name right? the duet is an excellent device, converters are awesome and frankly, if your a solo artist your probobly not going to need more than it.

Don't buy if you are only using for the converters (i.e. you have your own pre's).

I just bought and returned it. Im using a grace preamp with neumann mics). The E-MU 0404 USB sounded much better to myself and all my clients. I wish my E-Mu had the same integration into the mac system that the Duet did, but sound is more important obviously. I know apogee is known for its converters, but the E-MU was much more pleasant and accurate.

This is not a apogee interface, its says apogee and all but nothing about it is Apogee, your basically paying for a slimmed down Mbox Pro and getting only 2 channels i/o., the specs are identical! Apogee slapped this together to have something pro sumer for there name like Digidesign, both companies designed there own firewire interfaces but share the same parts from Asia.
