It feels like Intelligent Systems was the only company to really do something with Mario.

And by that, I mean take him seriously. Nintendo would've probably never made a Shadow Queen. Not to mention Twilight Town. They would've made it some stupid monster and had Twilight Town become something like "Water Land" or something.

I haven't played any Mario & Luigi, but Super Mario RPG and every Paper Mario game yet have at least one creepy stage &/or character in them...and I LOVE it!

That Mario can be light-hearted and creepy interchangeably is a sign of the story tellers's skill.

How is it...that in ever great game you come across the most EPIC of final boss music? There's Smithy v.2, Culex, (both from Mario RPG) ShadowQueen's final form, Dimentio's final form (both Paper Mario series) Cackletta Soul, Elder Princess Shroob, and Dark Bowser (all from the Mario&Luigi trio series), Rainbow Bowser (from Mario 64)....look at all those awsome boss songs!!! Nintendo sure knows how to make great music when they want to!!!

@KingdomHeartsBrawler Well they usually mean that the tone of the game is lighthearted and doesn't take itself very seriously. Which is what I love so much about Mario. The Mario & Luigi series just bath in its own craziness.

@Guardaviewe3 Well, because there's nothing demonic or Satanic about Nemo's mom being eaten by a barracuda (not a shark). I'm not saying that PM: TTYD should have a different rating -- I'm just saying that people who think that Mario couldn't have a dark storyline and see it as always happy-go-lucky haven't played this game. I've always been a big fan of Mario, and the fact that Nintendo mixes silly lighthearted humor with dark storylines in the Paper Mario games is ingenious.
