  • I grew up in a flying family but ended up going U.S.M.C. No regrets though because I got sent out on a carrier for 3 months and watching those Tomcats launch would damn near bring a tear to my eye everytime.......

  • This is one kick ass video - Thanks!!

  • Eventhough it's a same the F-14 is gone. I wouldn't want any other aircraft than the F-18 to replace it. The only thing is that the F-18 is taking over the entire fleet=( the EA-6B will be replaced by the F-18G eventually=( sucks. We should leave atleast one carrier with F-14s, A-6s,EA-6B and a couple of phantoms in active service... just for fun=D

  • My dad use to fly the F-14 Tomcats...hm sorta the reason I want to go into the navy, But now I sort of don't because the Tomcat's are gone )-:

  • how can any jet sound as beautiful as the tomcat none out there sound as sexy as she did

  • I am long time fan of F-14 Tomcat. lately I started looking at web pages about F-14B/D dogfighting capabilities but I cannot find anything in particular. I'm in general interested how it holds against F-15C.I want to ask If anyone knows the instantaneous and continuous turn rate of F-14B/D at LOW and HIGH altitudes, and at LOW and HIGH speeds? How does it compare to an F-15C Eagle.

  • Yeah!!! Naval aviators! No better pilots. It doesn't get better than that! If you see one bow down in admiration. This is how my heaven will be like. "Fly a Tomcat, with a beautifull woman on the back seat!"

    Cheers y'all!

  • looks like the landing gear would bend or break off landing that hard

  • Such power, can you hear the engines, thats a very sexy whistle, the most beautiful fighter ever.

  • Great!

  • That F18 looked squirrelly on the landing. A lot more than that F14.

  • amazing

  • Cool just cool!

  • that 2nd landing was mental

  • Tomcat!! Anytime Baby, Anytime!

  • F-18 WILL NEVER REPLACE THE F-14!~

  • when this video was taken it was my first underway in the navy. thank god i got the see the tomcat in action

  • Dad landed first and then the 2 kids came home LOL

  • hahaha

  • OMG valor01, that cracked me up. Great video PabloRomay!

  • this is too beautiful!!!!!! man this is jetwonderland!!!!thats too much!!!!great upload--tx for it bro

  • Yea I agree. Too bad... You're not the only one i've heard say that was the best job they've ever worked...

  • the first one landing slow.

the secound one landing faster and hard.

    (funny)

  • F-14 Tom Cat, the best. Unforgetable.I was there. Never forget!..

  • realy that was so beautiful

    it has very strong brakes.

  • this was the best aircraft. period. when you wanted to bring the fight to them.. they would pay badly

  • Id miss the cables on purpose just to spend a little more time with the plane.

  • Awesome footage!!

  • this aircraft, and the pilots and rio's who flew them were FEARED im mean FUCKING FEARED! by the Russians

there wasnt a more fierce symbol of our nation than that fast mover taking off into the wind

    thanks guys!

    Marine Grunt

  • @rickb731 Well, not feared, but respected.

  • i was on the flight deck in this video, doing cag arm/dearm.

  • o men!!!... nice video and nice f14 and f18..

  • Damn...that F14 whistle is just sexy man....

  • brings back many memories for me.

  • Check out utube: Sgt.Freedom Episodes 9 & 10

  • That's just awesome!

  • that was a damn good lookin' plane. nothing is sexier than the Tomcat.

  • couldnt agree more.

the legend of the skies. and my fav. imo

  • i will always have my f14 tomcat model plane with the jolly rogers skull and bones logo on display. baddest mo-fo logo on the planet! the f18 and new f35 just dont look as sexy as good ol' swing wing...

  • I feel like a wuss now,As a I get stressed when we have our squadron launches, look at you guys, it looks like a taxi station in New York, I'll never knock the navy As long as I live, but you guys don't have a Raptor either

  • My Marine cousin flew them for years from carriers. They never failed to get him home...

  • PabloRomay;

-good job w/ the video and your informative comments.

What a memorable event to have been there, huh?

  • Poor Tomcat, the good thing is that I can fly it in my FSX (Flight Simulator X) it doesn't come with the game but you can get it suprisingly for free ware. I hope to grow up and tell my kids about this awesome plane.

  • So nice to see a video that hasnt turned into a comment war over which plane is superior to which.

Beautiful plane. A work of art in the skies. It's sad to see it go, but they were old and pretty expensive and timely to maintain. It will be missed though.

  • rip tomcat

  • Such a great plane. There are so many people out there that just love the f14. Seeing the f14 in top gun made me seriously think of emigrating to the US, getting citizenship and becomming a pilot (probably impossible though). Why get rid of such a versatile, perfectly deadly and useful plane I ask!! I'm sure a suit in the pentagon did a cost-benefit analysis to justify it. So sad to see a beautiful plane go...RIP

  • Actually it was mainly due to the fact that the F-14 was hard to keep flightworthy, The folks who maintain them were working 20-36 hour shifts to keep them flying. add to that a lack of spares due to the fact that the plane was designed in the 60's & a lot of the parts are not even made anymore, & new systems aren't compatable due to the plane being analog. the litning pod added back in 2003 required custom installation & hand built adaptors to work.

  • Where do we buy our 2nd-hand Tomcats??

  • they were all sold before they hit the deck for the last time

  • Look how graceful the Tomcat it when it lands, compared to the bouncy teter toter ride of the F18. I'm not saying the F18 is a bad plane by no means, but the F14 will always be #1

  • They should have kept them no matter the cost... being able to reach out and touch a hostile at over 100 miles keeps your carrier battle group safe!

  • Actually, the Pheonix missile system was not very good at hitting smaller aircraft, it was designed to take out large bombers like the Backfire or the badger. almost no one uses large aircrft to attack ships anymore. the smaller aircraft can evade the Aim-54 easily. plus the missiles are heavy & make the fighter slow & reduce manuverability. Also the Aim-120 amraam has many of same capabilities with 1/10 the weight. the 1960's electronics in the missile are no longer made.

  • IMPRESIONANTE !!! wow

  • This Aircraft (AJ-110) is now retired at the Virginia Air Museum, Richmond, VA..The last Tomcat (AJ-112) that launch off is now resting at AMARC in Tucson,Az. I actually can see that Aircraft parked along the fence whenever I drive pass it.

  • The one in Virginia is actually on-loan from the Naval Aviation Museum here on NAS Pensacola at Pensacola, Florida. We actually have 4 (including that one). One is a prototype YF-14A that is a static pedestal mounted display outside the museum. One is a F-14A. One is a F-14D that flew the last combat mission by a F-14 Tomcat and the fourth is the F-14D loaned to Virginia that was the last Tomcat that trapped aboard an aircraft carrier. I'll see them again this weekend when I watch the Blues fly

  • i just cryed cant beleive there getting rid of em

  • very cool

    i love the fly-by @ ~2:15... so fast

  • One of the best Interceptors in the world. its so sad these cats are retired. A bad ass Cat!

  • The carriar, the aircrafts and the sounds are just amazing. I can't believe the US has 15 them. I can watch this video for hours.

  • I wouldnt mind working on an Aircraft carrier, I love the planes :D, Hell I would rather be the pilots but I dont think Ill be able to do that :(

  • Sad to see them go

I was in the Navy during the 80's and saw the last A7 onboard the USS KittyHawk and now the F/A-18 also replaced the F14

  • ANY TIME BABY!!! ALWAYS

  • HAHA! How about that. Im a photographer assigned to this ship and got to capture the last catch and launch of the F-14. Thats me on 1:05, escorting a civilian photographer around the flight deck.

  • You guys were the best!

  • ever since i was born ive wanted to fly an F-14. youll be missed you big cat

  • That first aircraft was from VF-31, the Tomcatters, which was the last squadron of Tomcats to be retired.

  • the TOMCAT still the best!

  • love these vids... the documentary is good

  • Now, it might just be me, but this vid is symbolic in that the Tomcat lands first, followed by the Hornet. To me, this says that the F-14 was moving over for the F/A-18 to take its full rightful place. A sort of passing of the torch or changing of the guard. And, I loved the fly-by of both aircraft overhead.

  • some planes are more than weapons. They have a soul.BYE BIG CAT

  • Maaaaaaaaan this is waaay tooo hot. wow seriously just working on the deck must be so great. What a job to be a fighter pilot.

  • I read once that working on the flight deck of a carrier

was one of the most hazardous jobs on the planet.

    No Shit!!

  • well yeah imagine jfk but with the planes all bunched up and with one runway and taxi way woo u have to be nuts

  • Former Blacklion, 96-01 here. Thanks for sharing your video and well articulated article!

  • its amazing how fast these things hit the deck

  • better yet, they have to keep those engines at near full throttle until the cable pulls the plane to a stop, because if they miss the cable, there isn't enough time to run the engines up and take off again they have to already be at full throttle

  • The f-14 is sexy its sad to see it go :(
