  • Rivers looks really embarrassed to be talking about this stuff. His discomfort is palpable.....also Rivers should have renamed the band when he came back without Matt. That band should have been called "Our Music Sucks Now"

  • Is the singer blind?

  • @RHCP9181 No?

  • I'm sure Weezer fans don't really care but when Rivers mentions the cartoonist Joe Matt, it's probably a "wink" at Sook-Yin Lee, the VJ, because she was going out with another cartoonist at the time, Chester Brown. Yeah.

  • was that matt sharp or john lennon...?

  • weezer are fucking gods. they helped get through my teenage years =w= for life

  • Goddamn you half-Japanese girls

Do it to me every time

Oh, the redhead said you shred the cello

    And I'm jello, baby

But you won't talk, won't look, won't think of me

I'm the epitome of public enemy

Why you wanna go and do me like that

Come down on the street and dance with me

I'm a lot like you so please, hello, I'm here, I'm waiting

I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me

  • I love Pat Wilson.

  • Does anyone know the name of the interviewer? She was really good at asking questions and discovering the mind of weezer

  • awkward how matt seems a little pissed about rivers' "problems"

  • i wonder if river gave the interviewer a facial?

  • @rosiechanel i can't like this more than once? what the fuck??

  • goddamn her

  • @Thefb1994

    i understand the feeling.

  • in his speaking, despite how shy he looks, he seems quite confident in his voice and what he says.

    he's fucking awesome.

  • 0:36-0:55. the girl behind him.

  • rivers, you feel guilty?awww. i feel almost bad for rivers in this interview.

  • Poor Rivers, I think that this interview is very telling. It's amusing how the other band members are just not sharing his mindset at all.

  • 2:40

    John Lennon?

  • It still blows my mind that people didn't love this when it first came out...

  • messin with the journalists and tellin stupid lies ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  • I bet Rivers is getting a hard on right now

  • "find your inner pinkerton"- wise words from the man him self, rivers cuomo

  • I wish he had more confidence.

  • He kind of has a Kurt Cobain vibe about him, sweet and depressive

  • Matt Sharp is the man.

  • god what drug does rivers do?? hes so out of it!

  • does mocing ur arms for like the whole time u tlk makes wat ur words clearer??

  • you know, what rivers said almost sounds like me. so far i know like almost every song of theirs on guitar, but like he sed not with girls at that era, ryte now, i am like very lonely, not even talked to, only friend is like....a person from school, but we dont talk much

  • u gotta love rivers

  • yeah the chicks good at interveiwing you basterds!

  • i remember this. when muchmusic was actually worth watching back then.

and rivers never gives the interviewer eye contact even once, but he does say quite a bit. and that phone ringing in the background is very annoying.

  • Rivers was like that until his 30s. He was a very quiet dude, now look at him. He'll talk to anyone and acts very nonchalantly about it.

but damn do i miss the glory days of the giant =W=

  • I actually thought she did a great job. Man, Rivers seemed depressed...Is that an act you think? Matt Sharp seemed to take some jabs at Rivers, I wonder if things were starting to unravel here. There's definitely some tension.

  • lol she is awful at giving interviews...

  • nope

  • One pf the only good interviewers that actually asks questions in an appropriate context?

  • would someone answer the damn phone!

  • The interviewer seemed to be putting the answers into Rivers' mouth.

  • I love hearing River's mindset and how open he is about his writing during this time period. This is the most open I've seen him until recently.

  • Love Weezer...so much

  • she was asking about the writing process - does he start by playing the idea by himself on acoustic guitar, then later changes the part to electric.

  • he looks so depressed here. i dont think he even looks up once

  • ive never seen a interviewer get so much out of rivers

  • She must be a half japanese girl

  • do it to me every time...

  • @madcow312 -- Shes part chinese i think. her names sook yin lee .

  • @Dan85 that sounds Korean to me.

  • @thejoshuahicks "Her father was a post-World War II orphan from Hong Kong, her mother an escapee from Communist China..."

just to clear things up...not that it matters, but yeah haha.

  • @madcow312 XD

  • @madcow312 she also sort of has red hair

  • @madcow312 Does she shred the cello?

  • @madcow312 God damn her...

  • Is weezer considered emo?

  • god i hope not but if they are i hope they are considered as 90's emo (emo w/ substance and talent)

  • @enthnd03 hahaha..90's EMO eh??...you obviously weren't into music during the 90's, were you buddy?

  • @greatestxgift

well....there are a few phases of emo, 90's (emo's second stage) emo incorporates weezer's pinkerton, sunny day realestate, fugazi.....among others, hell emo at one time somewhat included minor threat

  • @enthnd03 Are you being sarcastic???..."emo at one time somewhat included minor threat"????...seriously?? You obviously weren't around during that time buddy nor have you ever listened to Minor Threat. The only thing Fugazi and Minor Threat have that is even remotely considered to be "emo" is Ian being in Embrace and Guy being in Rites of Spring. The term "emo" is so irrelevant now anyway and it's a joke to be using it.

  • @greatestxgift

think of it in the terms of republicans, at one time it meant something else, including different political views; emo at different points in time had different definitions, at a time it was some like hardcore punk, then it turned to what the 90's had, and now the term has evolved into this word with such a huge stigma attached to it.....besides i was commenting on what someone asked which was "is weezer considered emo?"

  • @enthnd03 You are not getting the point and obviously you weren't old enough to know what it was like back in the day. NO ONE..I repeat...NO ONE considered Weezer "emo" during any point when they recorded their first two albums. You totally proved that you don't know what you're talking about when you try to include Minor Threat in any conversation with emo. It's easy to make up genres after the fact but you are totally out of context if you weren't in the scene when it was happening.

  • @greatestxgift yeah, i don't think you know what you're talking about, because enthnd03 is completely right, emo used to hardcore punk, and minor threat was somewhat emo, going by what emo meant in the early 80s when minor threat started. for some reason, greatestxgift, i have a feeling that enthnd03 is older than you, and that you obviously weren't in the scene when it was happening

  • @dogbert3002 Are you seriously this ignorant and stupid? One more time...NO ONE...and I mean NO ONE ever called Minor Threat "emo" when they were a band and it was not even a word until after they broke up. The only "emo" thing that is related to Minor Threat is Ian MacKaye starting Embrace after MT's break up and it was one of the first so called "emo" bands like I stated already. These genre arguments are so misguided but to say Minor Threat is emo is ridiculous and absolutely ignorant.

  • @greatestxgift yeah, have some IED much?

  • @dogbert3002 If you have no idea what you're talking then please refrain from perpetuating misinformation on public forums as it just makes you look foolish.

  • @greatestxgift i'll take that as a yes

  • @dogbert3002 Do you understand how clueless you come off as? First off, you stated that "emo" used to be hardcore punk so was Bad Brains and Black Flag "emo" too? Second of all, you stated that "emo" was a term when Minor Threat started and it is a FACT that that term wasn't coined until after MT broke up. Ian MacKaye was disgusted by that word and scoffed at the term when it was used to describe post-MT band Embrace and Rites of Spring. Please stop embarrsasing yourself.

  • @dogbert3002 It's completely ironic and hilarious that you're calling me a moron when you're the biggest moron of them all for thinking Minor Threat is "emo" and when you've exposed yourself as someone who seriously has no idea what they're talking about.

  • @dogbert3002 Calling Minor Threat emo is like saying Slayer is ska. Silly little kids.

  • @greatestxgift man shut the fuck up, who cares if some people consider minor threat or weezer emo, does that change the music?? no. who cares what they are, if you like them you like them. quit getting offended when someong considers a band emo.

  • @nocontrol06 man shut the fuck up, who cares if some people consider minor threat or weezer not emo, does that change the music?? no. who cares what they aren't, if you like them you like them, quit getting offended when someone considers a band not emo.

  • @enthnd03 greatestxgift is a moron

  • All music is emo when you think about it lol

  • only on the pinkerton album

  • the answer is FUCK NO

  • no lol

  • hardly

  • Alternative and some songs have heavy metal riffs

  • everything has emotion, our whole world is full of emotion, it takes a bird brain to not figure that out.

but if your talking about the "cry cry stab stab" emo, hell no.

  • Thanks for this interviewer. It's good to hear some of his thoughts during the pinkerton era

  • From 1:22 to 1:41 is pretty much what I am atm.

  • if Much Music still had Sook Yin Lee, they wouldn't have to sell ring tones as a side order with the green screen music videos.

  • lol i think its funny how matt and brian are just completly ignored and when it finally comes time for them to talk they just completly disagree with everything rivers said

  • why does matt always seem drunk?

  • uGH. WHAT AN ANNOYING INTERVIEWER.

  • Ugh, this just makes me feel horrible. I miss Matt so much; Scott's quite hardcore but no one matches up to Matt. "Is this thing on?"

  • Matt's so annoying

  • you are annoying.

  • wow actually he's being alot more talkative then usual hard to belive. lol

  • so? .... it was before.

A lot of time ago already is not like that

    i LoVe yOu rIvErS♥

  • Love rivers but sometimes well alot of times hes a bit socially awkward.

  • That's one of the many reasons why i love him.

  • walkout u fuckin' rock, never would ve thought of that

  • wow weezer has changed soooooooooo much since this

  • her arms are werid goddammit

  • everyones thinkin it, your just sayin it

  • this interviewer is a half wit.

    com on ask interesting questions.

  • Really? You don't think these questions are interesting? I was kind of impressed that she actually asked about some of the deeper meaning to the songs and the album as a whole. I'm not trying to naysay to you here, I'm just genuinely curious; what would you have preferred?

  • Yeah, she couldn't have asked more interesting questions as far as I can see. Rivers just snubbed them and shooed them off, ONCE AGAIN, for no bloody reason. Frustrating. See the 'rapix fax' segment for his actual answers to them.

  • Well, it is way cooler for a musician to give half hearted ambiguous answers than to actually answer the question. Just look at Lou Reed.

  • Man, here's a really dumb suggestion, but it just popped into my head randomly - the boys from Weezer ever remind anyone of the cast from Stand By Me? HAHAHAHA.

    Rivers = Gordie

    Brian = Chris

    Matt = Duchamp

    Pat - Vern

Hahahaha. Sorry, random thought, just their personalities on this video kinda threw me in that direction for some reason.

  • Sorry, Pat's not here, but generally, I mean. Hahaha.

  • Good interview. Matt sounds pretty cocky in this though.

  • what a coincident that the interviewer is half japanesse girl...

  • did Rivers look up once and dare to make eye contact with the interviewer?

  • he never dose

  • Yay! Pinkerton interviews!

  • great interview
