  • Fuck global warming,and fuck Manbearpig,nobobdy cares.

  • Blah blah KENYAN blah blah WRIGHT blah blah AYERS blah blah ACORN... uh... let's see... um... blah blah CAP 'N TRADE!! Ha ha can't fail.

  • well it did

  • This is a really bad video. REALLY BAD... but I don't want to be taxed for this. I live in MN and let me tell you... it's freezing here this summer. Usually we have about 3 days of 90 degree weather. We didn't have 1 day that was 90 degrees. Also, the record for 100 degrees was back in 1935! Global warming my @ss!

Moreover, I had to do a paper when I was in college for a German Linguistics. My research was on German tribal migrations (due to 2nd ice age).

The gov't just wants your money!

  • Love the fear mongering on this one.

  • where is birth certificat? wher

  • There are no costs whatsoever to the devasting effects of global warming good to know.

  • Palin/Bachmann 2012

  • Libs might actually leave if that happens. Let's start a petition, lol.

  • Wow, I wonder how many gov spammers are on this video. You know there is a concerted effort to keep track of you fracks so do not even bother to close you accounts and switch names. The internet is still free, wonder how much longer that will be. Because I can see you have already installed the foul language filter. Whats next, the free speech filter-anyone with a dissenting opinion gets filtered.LOL

  • Wow, without repub help, the Cap and Tax bill would never have made it out of the House FUCK YOU repubs and thanks for the bullshit. Want to make a bet, if we look at who voted for and against, we will probably find that whomever is up for re-election voted against. This way they can lie again when it comes to campaigning. Wake Up America. We have a two headed snake one party system in America.

  • O ne

    B ig

    A **

    M istake

    A merica

I will keep my guns, freedom, and money,

democrats, you can keep your "Change"

  • Yeah and I want my freedom, my privacy right inbeded in the constitution that allows me to grow and smoke weed, but I don't have that right. I want women to have the "freedom" to make their own decisions with their own bodies, republicans don't like that,

    so really,

Don't give us shit about us taking away freedoms because republicans would probably censor the media in a second yeah why did none of the major news networks cover the rnc protests 2009? Because they had a deal obviously.

  • shit i ment rnc protests 2008

  • people, its all a hoax.

We are actually in a "Global Cooling"

It's Al gore and the democrats taxing all of us crazy, do not fall for "Gloabl Warming, its more like "Global Scamming"

    O ne B ig A ** M istake A merica

  • A more accurate description is "Global Climate Change"- some areas are cooling, others are warming up, but neither are very good news for anyone.

  • I'm a hardcore conservative and I love the message of this ad, but it's really, really cheesy. It looks like something I use to see on local TV when I lived in a really small town on the Central Coast of CA. We need to get some really good commercials out there to combat these unsustainable liberal ideologies.

  • What a disgrace this president has been so far huh? Bring back prosperity - bring back Bush!

  • my bad i ment to like that

  • lol cognitive dissonance much?

  • Sarah Palin is my hero!!!! - had to add that too while I was at it!

  • Satan is laughing his tail off about how easily we are FOOLED and even some choose to be willing ignorant, in order to puff themselves up and actually think we can control the climate! Ummmm,.... no. The only One that can do that is you-know-who. Jesus Christ. (Wasn't sure if that was considered hate-speech, so I tried to ease into using the J word!!!!!!!! Because we all know how truly offensive TRUTH is!) ;)

  • Contact your Senators and tell them "No" to Cap and Trade! This is simply another way to tax us to death. Wake up, America.

  • Trees give off CO2 at night!!! i say we cut down all trees! turn off all lights and teach ourselves to breath less!

  • Instead of bitching at each other here on YouTube everyone should work together to create a reasonable compromise plan.

  • Only the dumbest people in the history of the world believe in G Warming.First of all, mankind only produces3%,so realisticly, to any one who thinks, affecting any portion of 3% is impossible.Secondly, the earth has COOLED for the past 6 years. The real fact is that GWarming is not manmade, but is naturally caused by sun activity.Proof?Other planets have warmed too.Cows farting,(LA Times)are the largest contributor to GWing gas. This whole issues is a tree hugger fantasy based on ignorance.

  • Stupid idea...look up the facts about what percentage we're actually "helping out the envioronment" by imposing the cap and trade bill....even if china joined us, also imposing a cap and trade bill...we would barely be making a difference. It's just going to raise already high energy bills, that some of us can't pay 100% of now!

  • The Republicans need to get rid of everyone on their committees. This commercial is horrible. Are some logical commercials (read: less fear mongering, more factual and thoughtful) really too much to ask for? I'd consider myself a right-leaning libertarian but jeez. More of the same old sh** they put out in the election. Maybe they will finally implode as a party and let libertarians step up in their place. BAD.

Oh and I don't know where you people find the time to keep posting here... really.

  • The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. check THIS out:

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels.. worth more than $5.3 trillion.

This is the US Gov't estimate!

  • The Bakken field is located in two thirds of North Dakota and Montana....IS THIS ENOUGH DOMESTIC OIL FOR YOU ?????

ONCE AGAIN MISINFORMED and MISLED!!! by your PRAVDA media

  • AND the Bakken field is just one onshore field!!!

We are sitting atop more oil and gas in the continental US than the combined assets of Saudi Arabia Iraq Iran and the West Coast of Africa combined..

Energy Independence is a certaintly if the US Gov't. and Tree huggers would get out of the way for the next 100 years!!!

But let's do Cap and Tax instead..unilaterally to boot!! smart?

    Can you spell ANWAR????

  • BTW All you Statists out there always accept the Feds information ALWAYS right???

So now where is the argument that we don't have enough domestic reserves to last?????

This is NOT Evil ExonMobil talking it is your best friends down at the politburo!!!

Irrefutable evidence is what you asked for right????

    Class dismissed.....

  • The economy and industry will shift to "green" when the time, technology and cost imperative is right....and right does not mean that BHO forces to happen earlier by means of Cap and Tax...

Gov't's problem is it is always trying to artificially engineer the market and tinker where it has no expertise or constitutional place....hence...Cap and Tax....

  • The government is doing everything they can to get every dime to pay for thier idiotic projects. I am extremely tired of it all The states are trying to raise taxes on everything too

  • lame video

  • Lack any information.

Just as bad as the comsmercials created for the election campaign. The publicity manager needs to be sacked.

  • I agree

I have yet to see any information from any rnc commercial.

  • If someone was keeping track the lights would already be out. This goverenment hasn't had money for over a generation and yet life goes on. Best enjoy the daylite now. The videos of the streets oif Iran are in our future, or if we are luck the future of our kids and grandkids. We blew it!

  • If we must go back too bycycles and candles , lets ban electric guitars and synthesiserrs, Acoustic Guitars and pianos require more talent than just playing repetitively one chord loudly and haveno need too shout above the numbing racket.

  • I blame the tree huggers...

How can America transition over to any kind of alternate fuel source while we're busy fighting people who HATE us for their damn oil!!

I liken this situation to a pot smoker.. Why would you go to the shittiest part of town to buy pot from someone who would just as soon take your money and kill you than grow your own in your own back yard?

Drill here and now.. leave the middle east to kill themselves and concentrate on developing an alternative fuel source.

  • WAKE UP AMERICA!! It is the same ploy , divide and conquer. It is our nation lets join togeater and take back what is ours. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. they have forgotten that.

  • Lights Out? It's our OWN FAULT. We all have given our our own POWER AWAY. When the fuck people going to realize this FACT of NATURE THE BEAST?

They do NOT and never WILL truly Control us if WE CHOOSE.

I tell my elders this and they look at at me like Deer in headlights at night. Amazing to me! so sad.

  • Seriously this commercial also has to be a joke. We really just need to get rid of the Republican/Democrat thing... I would vote for any candidate besides those 2 parties.

  • Funny, everyone is blaming Obama for all our troubles! While we sit idle by yet,do nothing! You can thank President for Lights Out but blame yourself! YOU did nothing at all about these Policies. Im a Republican but if I put you all in a bag and shook you up..you all would come out the same. You can blame the Democrates, Independance or the Republicans but you are all letting our Great Nation go to hell in a hang basket and NO ONE is doing a Dam thing about it! Shame on YOU! Enjoy The Darkness!!

  • so explain me this danni. The energy dept says US has about 21 billion barrels of proven reserves. In 2007 the US consumed 7.5 billion barrels. How are you going to drill your way out of imported oil dependency with only three years of proven reserves? Thats not a policy, thats just some stupid thing Palin said she was losing the vice presidency

  • Dems are dimwits, pure & simple!

  • Comment removed

  • 52.7 % and it's not about us and ya'll.... it's about all of us and what's going on... Get you head out of your fourth point of contact!

  • Ha ha ha... couldn't agree more, rukadore. But I doubt most people will understand the reference.

    AIRBORNE!!!

  • THANK YOU!!!! GO G.O.P!

  • ignorance is its own punishment, and I think you've punished yourself enough

  • A no more classic lefty "write off" of the conservative majority in this country exists!!!!

  • NEXT

  • i harvest my power from all the hot air you capitalists generate with your wrongheaded ideas and made up facts. thanks to conservatives I'm off the grid!

Now go kiss the ayatollah's ring and beg him to sell y'all some more oil. HE OWNS YOU BABY

  • Class over!!! Score one for the 40% that didnt elect this bunch!!!!

  • we'll score the rest for the 60 percent that were smart enough to finally get rid of y'all.

  • Wasn't referring to electorate (which BTW was the biggest luck out in th ehistory of man) I was speaking about the majority of America that calls itself Conservative."

What a break for you that the swing moderates that are in the center and just right of center moved just enough to elect your Supreme Leader into offce....Nanu Nanu butthead...

  • Now I have to get back to my high paying job that takes care of over 80% of the tax in this country...

You need to get back to whatever meaningless paper shuffle you do to get by on....

and remember when jumping on the people's mass transit...there is a power plant somewhere owned by an evil energy company running at near full capacity that is allowing you to ride home tonight....!!

  • Later my most un-worthy opponent.....

Send your buds out for round....We have plenty of fight left for all of you....

  • As for being "off the grid" How 'bout off the planet...???

  • And at the recent conference of global warming loonies in Poland...there are now over 600 (a majority) members that no longer agree with the doctrine at all..including the most pre-eminent and most recognized NASA climatologist in the world....

  • This comment makes no sense. Your first paragraph defines you as liberal. But your second paragraph is clearly misdirected. It's the liberals who are owned by the Ayatollah (and the rest of the Mid East) - bending over & kissing their backsides instead of drilling here & now to rid ourselves of that dependence.

  • you talk about "statist koolaid" while Big Oil has been pissing in your mouth all these years? i mean...drink what you like but........

  • Like I said, turn off the Laptop and save some of that precious power for the rest of us...AND save yourself the utility cost while your are at...an energy and intellectual "win win!!?

  • Lead by example my friend..when I see all you Statist on bikes a la downtown Beijing...then I'm buyin' it... until then shut the @@### up!!!

  • Oops, forgot al the Chinese Statists are buying cars like they were going out of style tomorrow (too bad for you they are not) and polluting downtown Beijing willy nilly....go figure....See if you can get them to join in on CAP AND TAX...can you spell N O P E!!

  • can you spell clueless? (probably not) Read this and weep, if you can read:

China is ready to abandon its resistance to limits on its carbon emissions and wants to reach an international deal to fight global warming, the Guardian has learned.

According to Britain's climate change secretary, Ed Miliband, who met senior officials in Beijing this week, China is ready to "do business" with developed countries to reach an agreement to replace the Kyoto treaty.

    London Guardian May 6, 2009

  • Hey - all you Dems out there.. .. Listen to Democrat Rep. Dingle, who says Cap & Trade is NOTHING but a BIG FAT TAX on our energy! Friggin wake up!

  • You, my friend, are seaching in vain for the slightest of brainwaves amongst the EEG flatliners....

  • the energy companies have received nearly $6 billion worth of tax breaks in recent years. And, because of a government error, the leases did not contain a trigger for royalties if prices soared — as they have in recent years. As a result, the companies have avoided $1 billion in royalties so far and stand to avoid an additional $9 billion over the life of the leases, the Interior Department says.

There's your well run companies. mooching off the taxpayer

  • You mean the soaring price that then fell in half almost over night???

    That price??

If you want to hate somebody,,, and it appears that you are just itching to hate somebody or something...hate the Saudi's because for those of that actually work in the energy business...those are the folks that set your prices...not Evil ExxonMobil...

Combined market control of all major energy companies...2%...What a monopoly at that percentage....

  • the $150 a barrel price was driven by Western speculators not Saudi pricefixing or Asian demand. But kindly note the pump price has not followed. Suppy and demand? In the opil business? You MUST be joking

  • II'm sorry...are you still paying $4.50 per gallon somewhere in Trogland???

Last I checked $2.49 regular here....hmmm.. no price drop eh??

  • and leave the poor United states in the clutches of dopes like you??? OMG. that would be downright unpatriotic. God Bless America and god damn the oil companies and their rightwing toadies that threaten it. go back to the 13th Century where you came from

  • The 13th centruy is exactly where you want everyone to go...pre-edison Utopia...Right...everyone died at what 42????

  • if the US would stop wasting energy and start generating it with 21st century technology instead of 18th century coal burners we'd be in fat city. By the way, fossil fuel lung disease is an important reason why the US lags so far behind cleaner smarter Europe in lifespans. look it up. and so send me a postcard from your prehistoric present. On second thought....don't

  • Fact: Number of fans needed to power Paris France..well over 6,000.....Oh but they don't need fans they have Evil Nuclear.....

  • How big is your back yard??? Could we place at least 2 0r 3 of those monstrosities there???

Check with the LIberal LIon of the Senate good 'ole Teddy bless his msiguided heart...no fans in Cape Cod ... the ultimate NIMBY...Teddy!!!

  • Amen Comrade...

  • again more ignorance on glaring display. US energy prioces are the lowest in the industrialized world by far and grossly undertaxed. thats really stupid because it destroys market incentives for efficiency -- you like markets right? -- which explains why the US wastes more energy per capita than anyplace else. You do remember that makes the US dependent on foreign, often hostile countries for our survival right? Or don't you think markets should be involved in solving the energy crisis?

  • Drill here Drill now!!! Oh and park your car, turn off your air conditioner, flat screen, refrigerator, alarm clock, THE LAPTOP you are typing this crud on etc. and light a candle you troglodite

  • Once again, the facts...Japan highest corporate tax rates on the world...America, a close second...!!

Tax 'em some more...that'll get your job back onshore.....

  • United States will soon be the United Socialist Republic; just another banana republic. Idiots have taken over the country.

  • yeah the idiot are in charge now. now we are really in trouble

  • Soon????

Not judging by the "batch of leftist, evil corp boogie men haters" on this little blog...

    how 'bout now!!

  • I have a great idea...why don't all you Evil Corp legions open wide and take one for the team by putting your mouths over the nearest tailpipe and remove some of those awful emissions that Cap Trade doesn't catch...

    Breath deeply now!!!!

  • Aren't we happy that it's an American company making these profits? Would we be happier if it was BP a British company or citgo that is Venezuelan money. . Why do we demonise the Oil companies, they supply us with gasoline, oil to heat our homes and supply the electric companies with fuel to produce electricity. fuel for our airplanes. Millions of Americans are invested with EXxonmobil,as well as the 401k that are invested. At least someone knows how to run a corporation without bailouts

  • You took the words out of my mouth!!! Very well said!

  • And Oh!! BTW...ExxonMobil selling off all dwonstream retail (you know this as gas stations) because they are ....hmmmm

So outrageously profitable......just windfalls of money...so much so they are getting rid of their entire retail gasoline outlets....go figure....??

You are just plain un-informed or worse mis-informed by your Statist sources....

  • And while we are on the subject of Energy Companies....40% or more of that stock..owned by A. Greedy Executives or B. Police, Teachers, Firemen...

    ANSWER: B

  • Yea...let's make those awful profiteering shareholders Pay right!!!!

Are you getting better informed yet...

So..the State and Municipal Pensions that own 40% of the stock of say ExxonMobil should pay more tax on their shares of the 10% profits of ExxonMobil so...poor you can???????

  • I wish political ads actually gave substantive information, this commercial tells me nothing. RNC - you claim to have economic logic on your side, use it!!! ...let the Dems carry on with empty rhetoric, you'll never do it better than them anyway.

  • I agree that the RNC needs to get its act together and put out some factual and informative stuff, rather than more of this. If they want to argue against this quite popular and flashy presidency, they need to attack with logical arguments, not this.

  • wow

  • That's what they come up with? Cap and trade would be a horrible thing to pass but surely the RNC could have made a better ad than this. It explains nothing.

  • Great video. I have already informed my reps to vote no on the cap and trade . Everyone needs to do the same and quite watching the brainwashing All Barak Channel (ABC News)

  • My God...Obama is killing this country!

Enough already with taxing us to death!

  • Here's something that we can all call our congresspersons on and advocate: STATE CONTROL of the insurance industry. If you do your research and check the numbers on AIG, you'll see that only about 1/3 of that giant corporation is insurance or insurance related. The rest is a holding company and other interests that are have FEDERAL oversight and are in huge financial trouble. The insurance portion, however, is in great financial shape and has STATE oversight.

    Go figure.

  • PLEASE....write your Representative TONIGHT and express your opposition to this bill! This tax is going to cost each and everyone of us BIG BUCKS.....in the thousands, not the hundreds! And for what? To stop Global Warming? DUH!!! Like we can spend our way out of climate change...something this good Earth has been doing since the beginning of time. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! This is all about money and control. It isn't going to do a sliver of good to stop the warming or cooling of this Earth!

  • Hey astarr57... just think... if the cap & trade passes & temps here on our little planet drop the least bit, liberals can claim to have SAVED THE PLANET!... and there's absolutely no way to dis-prove that to the masses.

    Heckuva plan!

  • astarr57, you are so right. Global Warming??? Is this what it was called when the Ice Age was transforming? It's called evolving, simple! Someone forgot to tell New York about Global Warming. Coldest summer so far in 29 years! Investigating this issue by reading what scientists conclude, not listening to AL GORE who is making millions off this crap. His worth 33 million to over 300 million in less than two years due to his "investments" in GW products. Educate yourselves! Please !

  • I wish I heard a better proposal from the Republicans......................................... hell, my buddy wants to give MORE tax breaks to big business ( hey AIG go on another multi million dollar party ) and create 8 dollar an hour jobs instead of allowing the low to middle income family a break. What a sad state of affairs.. And instead of offering a counter proposal all the FFRR's can do is have attack ads. Real progress....

  • You know... the more profit a company makes... including tax breaks... the more they can grow and.... ready?? the more people they can hire! Imagine that! It comes back around.

I'm not saying that businesses should get all the breaks, just don't be so hasty to condemn them for getting some. Even Wal-Mart started as one store in Arkansas.

  • So.... the answer is to tax the little guy to death and give away the U.S. to the GIANT monopolys that have been created ? And the thanks we get is to ship our jobs overseas ? And the previous knucklehead wanted to give our ports security to foreign forces ? Thank God even the FFRR's decided to go against their own party. The ANSWER is to somehow limit the fair and equitable profit that is being paid.. when someone has an answer that works, I 'll be all ears..

  • Captial will seek its lowest cost of production wherever that may be....

America is now the 2nd highest corporate taxed country in the world...Japan first...

Can you figure out why....hmmm...Evil Corps hate American workers OR taxed into unprofitability by Leviathan Gov't ????

  • Most U.S. and foreign corporations doing business in the United States avoid paying any federal income taxes, despite trillions of dollars worth of sales, a government study said.

The Government Accountability Office said 72 percent of all foreign corporations and about 57 percent of U.S. companies doing business in the United States paid no federal income taxes for at least one year between 1998 and 2005. you never heard of tax loopholes?

do ya get it now fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You cannot "tax" investment and business capital into staying in the U.S. and hiring American workers....EVER!!!

You either compete on the global stage or lose your job to the Chinese or India....

Just ask Francois Mitterand what happened to French Captial when he tried it....Capital fled France like a scalded dog......I say again Idiots!!!

  • wow now you people move onto personal attacks ,know wonder the republican party is in such a bad shape . and if this party keeps just attaching their oppoinits they have know chance in winning the presidencecy

  • What personal attacks? I've read most of this thread and haven't seen much "ugliness". ... makes me so proud...

  • I don't see any personal attacks.

I see an ad that tells the American people to wake up and stop letting our government screw us.

Unless you think it's okay for Obama to raise taxes so high that nobody can pay them?

  • A true LIB....you haven't a clue how to spell or put a sentence together!! You must be a product of the Government schools!! Oppoinits??? Presidencecy? If you have any pride, you need to go back to school and take some English lessons!

  • sithapprentic03, what attacks? There are no attacks here, it's called stating the facts. And no offense, but.... I think you may want to think about going back to school and concentrate on the English language. It might help you in your language comprehension.

  • If this passes we won't have enough left to live on. If all his agenda's pass he will be the last US president - we will have the one world government

  • "Cap and trade" is government speak for new taxes. Could the energy companies afford to absorb the costs without passing it along to the consumer? Maybe they could but they are in business to make a profit. The costs will be passed along to the consumer.

Anyone who blames the energy companies for "cap and trade" cost increases is an idiot. Obama knows exactly what this means to the consumer and Obama does not care.

Obama does not care about the people of the United States.

  • You are absolutely right - global warming is the greatest hoax of this century.

He wants to be the one world leader but too bad, that ain't going to happen.

I beleive he is committing high treason.

  • Be sure to forward it to your constituent. Hopefully you don't have Bart Stupak, he does nothing for you.

  • This simple: Corporations always pass their taxes down to the consumer, so WE ALL will pay more. Wake up America!

  • Cap & trade will generate new investment in renewable energy produced here in our country and will create new much-needed jobs too.

  • Bullshit. It will simply allow uncle Sam to reach into the pockets of companies that are perceived to produce more greenhouse gasses, and they in turn will raises prices, and PG&E is at the top of that list.

  • Sadly, these 'new' jobs will be at the expense of folks all over the economy. You see, the economy is like an air-filled balloon: squeeze one end and the air goes to the other end. So when the government raises taxes here, people and capital move there. It's a fact. People and capital go to where they make the most of it. Now, of course things might be different if in fact we had a carbon crisis on the planet. The only inconvenient truth is that the inconvenient truth is a lie!

  • Businesses exist to fill a need and make a profit. Profit is limited by overhead and there's only so much room to increase overhead like more taxes. Without profit, the businesses cease to exist and the jobs go away with them. It's not complicated in the large view.

Don't like the big companies making a profit? Well then, you have three choices: 1-start your own business; 2-work for the government; or 3-live off the government.

Best of luck to us all!

  • The energy companies do make profits - tremendous profits. They can afford the taxes, but they still insist on sticking us with the bill - and making unnessasary cutbacks to fuel their empires.

  • Taxes and tax increases affect -all- of us, not just a few as the idea sold by a few.

If you love taxes you love them!!

  • I'm for taxing Multi-Billion Dollar Corporations that over charge consumers as they pump carcinogens in the air. It wouldn't affect me at all if they would just do what's right, instead of passing the buck.

  • It's not just the "multi-billion dollar corporations" that pass the buck on their taxes. There's not one business that actually pays it's own taxes. ALL expenses - including taxes - are figured into the price of goods/services so that it's the consumer who pays it, not the company.

  • wanta bet it doesn't affect you! You must be young and it will affect your whole life. When 21% inflation hits and 15 - 20% interest rates (just like the Carter years in the 70's) TRUST ME, YOU WILL BE AFFECTED.

  • That's the whole message? Power goes out and a bunch of faceless people saying "Thank you Mr. President." It tells nothing about what Cap & Trade is, nothing as what would be a better solution. Just complaining. WoW! Way to get that message across.

  • Maybe if we had term limits for senators and congressmen, we wouldnt be stuck with all the old fossils taking up space and cheating on their wives not to mention writing bad checks! We need some new people in there that know whats going on in this country. Someone who's tired of being taxed to death like the rest of us. Goodbye Sen Kennedy, goodbye John Kerry, dont let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out! "just to name a couple"

  • While I agree with this in principle, term limits is a double edged sword. It guarantees bad ones dont stay on forever, but good ones dont stay on forever as well.

    It takes a fine balance.

  • Corporations surely pass on costs but you have a choice to buy or not buy vast amounts of products they offer but on Cap and Trade you don't have the option to pick and choose what utility you get your electric power from. You're totally held captive.

  • True - they diverted the cost to us - instead of paying for it themselve - that is what corporations do. I am only pointing out that this video implies that the tax is directly on us, and it is not. The tax is on a large-scale emitter, or company. In the end we do pay for it anyway. Still, This is not a fair representation of the Cap and Trade policy.

  • I think you are missing the point; whether or not it is a tax directly on us or through a corporation the government feels is emitting to much, it is STILL a tax! You're splitting hairs on this issue and I feel it is YOU who are not fairly representing what the Cap and Trade is all about. You even admit "in the end we do pay for it anyway" but want to highlight a trivial sidenote. That is the real unfair representation of the policy.

  • According to my local utility company I can expect a 15 percent increase in electric this year, with this bill it will in crease my cost by another 35 percent. Also the cost of producing food and industry will increase by 40 percent. According to GAO it will cost jobs. Toledo has 14.5 umemploy now with this bill it will be 15 percent higher.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not a side note - I'm not for Cap and Trade, but this is a deceptive way to present the facts. The Republicans would be all for this - if was not a corporate tax. The RNC took Congressman John Dingells statement out of context to persuade people to vote on behalf of corporate interests.

  • Companies are in business to make money. DUH! Every decision they make is based on the bottom line. New legislation comes along that will effect their profits, they have to decide what to do: raise prices, cut work force, cut benefits, move to another state, move to another country? Our growing federal government is KILLING our economy. When will they learn to stay out of the way? When will our population get its head out of the sand and pay attention to what's going on?

  • quote - "New legislation comes along that will effect their profits, they have to decide what to do: raise prices, cut work force, cut benefits, move to another state, move to another country?"

How about this novel idea - paying the tax and taking a profit loss - just like every american does when they get hit with new taxes. Oh, but corporations don't pay their own taxes - we do. If they don't like it, they move to China and hire slave labor to maintain a reasonable level of decadence.

  • What would do YOU if you were being forced to take a drop in pay? Get another job? ... a better one? ... that pays MORE, or has better benefits?

Wouldn't you then be seeking a level of decadence?

If there's nothing wrong with your trying to improve your bottom line, the same is true for businesses. Pot calling the Kettle black.

What "every American does when they get hit with new taxes" is find a way to avoid them AND seek ways to repeal them, as well as the congressmen who voted for them.

  • We are not talking about a drop in pay - we are talking about federal taxes.

So what would I do? Pay may OWN taxes because I have no choice. Corporations should be obligated to do the same.

I do agree that Cap and Trade is a bad idea. Only because the corporations will refuse to take responsibility for their own taxes. The burden falls on us. That is the way the Cap and Trade policy should be presented, not as an opportunity to launch smear campaign on the President.

  • You are a complete moron...Business 101 Corporations are NOT tax payers they are tax gatherers....costs of regulatory taxes like CAP and TRADE are paid by corporations and passed thru as added cost of the good or service delivered by the then "taxed" corporation...

When are you idiots out there gong to finally GET IT!!!!

  • Your a complete moron - shareholders are taxed on the profits - that is the definition of corporate tax. The added cost on goods or services is a way to make us pay for it. They are not FORCED to pass the added cost to us. They are not "tax gatherers". Ridiculus.

  • shareholders do pay tax on the income and dividends but...corporate tax occurs on the books of the corp..NOT the shareholders!!!!

So the choice...do the "RIGHT" thing and become unprofitable with corp tax. or send it along to the consumer as costs of goods and services....and what if YOU are the shareholder...screwhead...then its a different story...do you own stock in anything..401K ????

  • That is a far cry fro what you stated moments ago - Business 101 Corporations are NOT tax payers

The "RIGHT" thing is not to pass it along to the customers either - It's a short term fix, that eventually causes a greater loss when people can no longer afford the goods or services

  • Once again the Corp that pays Corp tax is NOT a tax payer....for the last time...

Please go back to whatever junior college you managed to eek out a diploma from and take remedial B 101...or call an CPA..anything just quit showing your complete ignorance of Business on this blog....

  • If the free market detects a decline in demand for a good or service...the free market will respond accordingly....No need for Leviathan to stick it's nose in with more tax...Cap and Trade here we come....

  • Case in point....$0.37 per gallon federal excise tax...Evil Corporation profit per gallon $0.05 per gallon..do ya get it now fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Percentage of that Profit Against Total cost of Operations and Overhead...just under 10%...Again...there is an UNREASONABLE percentage right???

  • it is not the size of the profit..it is the size of the enterprise you need to understand...

Like most AVERAGE folk out there demonizing EVIL ExxonMobil..you need to look at the WHOLE picture and not just the profit...

But of course not...let's just focus all our angst at the "enormous profits?"

  • and enormous they are. In any case your nickel a gallon figure for oil company profits is ludicrous and comes from none other than the oil companies themselves. Nor do you seem to realize the billions of dollars in tax breaks and government subsidies they get on top of their mega profits. Not only is Exxon poisoning the planet they're picking our pockets at the pump and at the IRS. andf all you can say is 'please boss. kick me some more."

  • Yea..they must be cooking the books...Again...Audited financial statements....Sarbanes Oxley Regs etc etc....

Did you miss the biggest taker at the pump....your good friend, I mean comrade...the Federal Excise Tax!!!

  • Well to open your eyes to reality a bit, the oil companies COMBINED, do get Billions of dollars in tax cuts, but they don't pocket the money. They use the tax cut money to do research on cleaner fuels, safer drilling, and to revamp their refineries to cut down on harmful emissions. They are not doing like Obamas Fannie and Freddie and CitiGroup and GM and taking bailout money to line their pockets with it instead of using it to fix the problems. Oil Companies are true corporations!

  • Good to have a wing man in even this puny dog fight...

  • What happened to all that lefty zealotry??

Must had a relapse of ADHD...back their gameboys, Xboxes and Wii's...

  • Most of which are distributed to things like Shareholders and likely your 401K if you even have one to begin with....

  • Lee Raymond retired as CEO of ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) at the end of 2005, and in April it was announced that he had received one of the most generous retirement packages in history, nearly $400 million.

You really don't have a single clue, do you?

  • look at the the bonus packages of AIG and GM . And these guys ran the companies into the ground , at least Lee Raymond ran a profitable company , I think it;s you who doesn't have a clue.

  • Amen brother!!!

  • Betcha wished you owned some of that ExxonMobil stock about now.....right....hehe!!

  • No thanks. Exxon Mobil has the locals killed if they dare to complain about pollution, land seizures and repression. All that blood in their oil makes my Prius run rough

  • I think there must be a plane leaving for North Korea any minute...why don't you be on it...then you bicycle everywhere...no worries about Evil Corp there...just Evil Gov't....or perhaps you disagree with that notion as well..

  • now you are just shooting your mouth of talking crazy. trying to have the last word, stupid really

  • Talk about drink the Statist kool aid...

  • ste1438, it's you that needs to get your facts straight.

First, the exploration companies invest trillions looking for Oil, of which only a small portion results in "finds". Who on earth do you think pays them back for that? No one.

Second, the transporter and refiner take cuts, again they invests billions.

Third, the government STEAL more than 25%... for what? Nothing. That is theft, pure and simple.

If you don't like oils companies, get your bicycle out and peddle everywhere.

  • The goverment does not take more than 25% either. 1.3% that is the average tax.

  • where do you come up with 1.3%???

  • sorry the goverment takes aruond 13%

the crude oil companies keep around 66%

    gov - $ 40 cents on $3.00

    crude oil $ 2.07 on $3.00

    refineries ,24

    Gas stations .07-.10 cent.

    The rest geos to

  • You were kidding right? - You don't really believe that they invest trillions without any results or profits. Your telling me to get my facts straight - where did you get yours from, a parallel universe.

  • They can't invest trillions to look for oil - that is idiotic to even say. One trillion dollars is all the goods and servives produced in Austrailia for a year. Yet you claim that thay spend multi-trillions to look for oil and not get paid for it. You have the nerve to tell me to get my facts straight.

The fact is crude oil companies profit the most - not the goverment. I have my facts straight. Triilions - your a retard.

  • Trillions: Fact. I work for an engineering company in Houston, one of many worldwide, we have over 103 billion in projects for FY 2009. 3 floating platforms at 20 billion each, an upgrade to an existing refinery at 49 billion: these for one client in one year. Take into account all the oil producers, and you get trillions.

Now where do you get your numbers from that you can personally vouch for?
