  • RAGE AGAINIST THE MACHINES!!!!!

  • I want this video on my INNO 79 phone.

  • This sounds like a Boss OD3. I like it.

  • getting this 2day BITCHES

  • KILLING IN THE NAME!!!!!!!!!!! RATM!!!!

  • Your video is a favorite on Maseru

  • the boys are back in town!!

  • Would you recommend this pedal for a metallica/megadeth/trivium kind of tone? or some other mxr?

  • @timisgod13 You would need a distortion pedal for a heavy sound like the bands you mentioned, not an overdrive pedal IMO. However there is the possibility of using an OD pedal through the dirty channel of your amp or even a booster pedal. I'd recommend investing in a decent overdrive pedal if you have the money!

  • @timisgod13 the Custom Badass '78 Distortion

  • @timisgod13 MXRPLUS

  • Killing in the name,..!!

  • This is a great demo of this pedal! would you say that it could give you a tone like the first metallica album, kill em all?

  • @metalshredder14 Try a Proco Rat or MXR Custom Badass.

I believe they used a Proco Rat distortion through a Marshall JCM of some sort on Kill 'em All.

  • The pedal of my dreams <3 <3

  • Pink floyds young lust from the wall on the strat

  • thin lizzy !!

i own this pedal and its fantastic for blues !

  • if I were to use the pedal without overdriving my amp, would I still get a distorted signal?

  • @gnrfanatic141414 did you watch the video -> its a clean amp!!!

  • tried it a few days ago in a music store. it REALLY sounds that good...

  • nice vid!!

  • dude, love the playing. you and gearmanndude are my first top for pedal demos. how does this handle blues?

  • put one up for the MXR CL1 Classic Overdrive please

  • Awesome, got that today :Q_

  • is this what tom morello uses?

  • @thEyeojEEl Tom uses all sorts of pedals but for his live rigs he is not known for using OD pedals. His drive comes from the his 50 watt Marshall head unless something has changed in the last few years. here is a shot of his pedal board which usually stays the same. tiny (dot) cc (slash) tomsrig

  • true bypass?? like guitarplaying alot!!

  • Is it true that the Classic Overdrive also by MXR is basically this and the ZW-44? I heard there's a switch on the inside that switches between the two.

    Can you verify this?

  • This pedal fits for Clapton Tone?

  • @usojas1

    No.

Clapton tone - Gibson Les Paul or SG plus a JTM45 with KT66 valves. Max the volume out to 10 and you're there.

    Done.

  • DO WHAT THEY FU*KIN TOLD YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • would would you recommend for Red Hot Chili Peppers style distortion? This pedal, or the Distortion III?

  • @whiteliongate I'd suggest just looking up "John fruscante rig" on google ( i know i spelled his name wrong. There's probably a list of his complete set up somewhere on line.

  • @whiteliongate no, get a BOSS DS2

  • @whiteliongate John Frusciante uses a Boss DS2 Turbo Distortion and a Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi

  • This or Wylde overdrive?!

  • @ZombieCFH well if you just wanna waste like 30 bucks more go for the Wylde one but both are pretty much the same

  • young lust 4:46

  • Mxr gt od or fulltone OCD --- best tones

  • it doesn't clean up whit the guitars volume knob =(

  • do you still get a this nice overdriven tone when it's going straight into the mixer?

  • buying this right now.

  • 0:07 F#ck you I won't do what you tell me! AW YEAH RATM

  • Hey Proguitarshop, I really appreciate your demos, they are first rate, but I wish you would pull out a tele every now and then.

  • @kulgion We certainly do now. This video is from 2008! Thanks for watching,

    PGS

  • @kulgion i find there are too many Tele/strat demos and the single coild make everything sound the same :-/ thats just me though

  • @darkstarrebellion you're so on your own :P

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Do you think I could get a good 80's Metal sound from this pedal? I.E. Early Marshall Law or Savatage [hall of the mountain king]

  • The Boys are back in Town

  • quick question. If i have my guitar amp on clean, can i use this pedal to switch from clean to distortion by stepping/pushing on the button?

  • killing in the name=an epic winn:)

  • I mean that the GT-OD is much better than the Distortion +.

  • bought it today and it is just amazing

  • This or the Distortion+?

  • Comment removed

  • @BurnShitUp69

    For what?

For more classic stuff, the Distortion +

    For more modern GT-OD

  • @JerkyChid id mostly be using a pedal for a fat boost from rhythm to lead. which would work better?

  • ProGuitarShopDemos do you recommend this over a ts9 tubescreamer?

  • @II6bulletII Dude i have both The gt od in my book sounds much better it doesn't change your tone just how much drive you want

  • RAGE RULES

  • Can someone tell me if adding an overdrive to a distortion will boost the tone or distortion, I have a tube amp as it stands?

  • @hate420breed Adding an OD will tighten up your low end and push the tone to an even more awesome level.

  • Oh yeah, when I hit the red channel or more drive channel on my Blues Deluxe Tube Amp, I turn the output knob on the MXR GTO pedal all the way up and the tone and gain knobs all the way down. Gearmandude has a really awesome Demo if this pedal too.

  • Lately, I've been using it as a boost for the green overdrive channel on my Fender Deluxe Tube Amp. It gives my tone a bit more bite and character.

  • i have the proCo Rat, i use it as a base distortion. I want a pedal to get me a cool lead tone. which one of these would you choose to boost the Rat to a nice lead tone. MXR linedriver, Boss GE-7 Graphic Equalizer or a MXR GT-OD?

  • @Runelaier Boosting a distortion pedal is usually a bad idea. I'd get an EQ, place it after the Rat, and use it to get a volume boost and a way to shape the tone as well.

  • @Runelaier mxr m108 10 band EQ !

  • I have the classic overdrive from MXR, how different is it from this?

  • This sounds just like my Tube Screamer! and its like 80 dollars cheaper!

  • Who's gonna show this stranger around...

  • @gibsongod15 I like the MXR one, I got it for 30 dollars at GC, 4th of July sale, ends this Sunday. Although, an original or custom TubeScreamer would of course surpass the aforementioned

  • Fuck you I won't do what ya tell me!!!!

  • This or the Tubescreamer?

  • @Runelaier exactly what i want to know!

  • @Runelaier both are great pedals you decide which do you like more

  • @Runelaier Tubescreamer

  • can you use this pedal with other distortion pedals

  • Those that work forces...are the same that burnt crosses...

  • Im savin up for this Pedal. Do you have free shipping?

  • I have and old Digitech GNX1 I can't let go of I keep trying other stuff but to me nothing digital seems to hold up, tell me what you think. Thanks, Max

  • How well does this pedal clean up with the vol. control + playing dynamics? Cheers

  • i still prefer bixonic expandora which too bad pro guitar shop dont carry =/

  • How does this compare to a ts9?

  • what do you guys think i should get a danelectro cool cat fuzz or mxr gt od

  • How does it sounds compared to a ts-808?

  • Do u think this could get a crispy Fair Warning or 1984 tone? The Hardwires come close. Im either gonna get this, the D3, or one of the Hardwires. Not sure yet.

  • I can't decide between this and the BOSS od-3.

    Plz Help!!

  • GT??? WHERE ARE THE RACING STRIPES?

  • @Haydeosmith lol

  • Killing in The Name OF

  • KILLING IN THE NAME!!! LOVE THIS GUY!

  • i bought this and I dont like it.

  • back2thefutre, what amp did you run it on?

  • @DavePlaysAJackson Vox AC30

  • @back2thefutre what guitar?

  • it doesn't sound like this?

  • same here, it seems to push the overdrive channel on my amp too hard resulting in way too much gain, even when the gain knobs all the way down.

  • @dirtstyles Just turn the amp distortion of

  • "Killing in the name" of the GT OD

  • which do you guys like better- this or the distortion 3?

  • my whole pedal board is mxr and i have both and love both of them, but i use them in totally different ways, i use the gt-od on my amps gain channel, just to kick it up a notch for solos, but i use the distortion 3 as my british high mid distortion on the clean channel

  • thanks man

  • do they stack well together?

  • @29396 Def this. I hate my Dis III. It's weak. I use it on a Marshall JCM 2000 and it no very useful. It cant touch the crunch channel of the Mar. Also used it on my Line6 HD100 tube head it don't like it there either.

  • can this pedal be used as a booster lyk the wylde overdrive??...as in to boost ur volume for solos n stuff???

  • yeah u can.

  • whats he plain' on 4:12 ?

  • @Speackoolm

The Boys are back in town by Thin Lizzy

  • at 4:47 he plays pink floyd

  • Hell yeah man Young Lust!!

  • is this a true bypass pedal?

  • yes

  • whats the best overdrive pedal for metal?

  • @uncharted97 Troll.

  • He's not trolling. You'd be surprised how many metal players use tubescreamers to slam the front end of an amp and tighten it up, including myself.

  • excellent ! =)

  • Killing in the Name of!

  • is this pedal better than the mxr distortion 3??

  • YOUNG LUST!

  • i have this pedal and i recommend to everyone and 4:48 young lust \o/ xD

  • is this pedal sounding good with distortion from the amp? Please answer

  • +1 I'm looking for a pedal to tighten or add distortion/gain to my Mesa Boogie Road King's channel's 3 and 4 presets.

Please answer, Would this pedal do what we need it to do?

  • I own a RKII and why on God's green earth would you possibly need more gain than channels 3 & 4 provide in modern mode?!

Anyway, used as a clean boost (gain at or near 0, volume/level almost cranked, tone to taste), a tube screamer (I prefer a Maxon OD808) or similar pedal can add some excellent tonal dynamics and punch to both channels without turning them into a tsunami of muddy, over-gained n00b-ness.

  • In the MXR demo they put this on in front of the amps distortion

  • this pedal is true bypass?

  • no, but in my experience, MXR pedals don't cut treble, so it doesn't matter.

  • yes it is :)

  • Killing in the Name!!! : O

  • is it worth getting this pedal if i already have an Ocd Version 4 and a ibanez ts-9 would it eat up my tone? right now im playing with a fender deville hot rod and a 2007 standard gibson les paul with a bigsby

  • I wanna know this too !!! Anyone ?

  • i'm not sure why you'd need one...

  • @ruffles272

it would sound awesome - zakk wylde doesnt use his signature overdrive on its own, he always uses it infront of a cranked amp.

    more gain, more sustain

  • could i use a dc adapter

  • Im thinkig what pedal I should buy from these : MXR Custom Shop GT-OD, MXR M173 Classic 108 Fuzz or Ibanez Tubeking? I mostly play, blues country, rock and hard rock? Any comments what is the best to these genres?

  • lately im into the gt-od, fulltone ocd version 3, and the bb preamp

  • I have an Ibanez Tubeking (new red model) and it is mostly for metal. For what you're looking for I would go for the GT-OD or other similar Tubescreamer style pedal (I have a TS-9 myself.)

  • how much is this pedal?

  • the offspring??

  • Mmmm.... Creamy...!

  • (to z4c5t4)

Heafy more than likely uses this pedal as a clean-boost (no overdrive tone coloring added) to make his guitar's signal hotter before his amplifier's preamp section. This causes his preamp's tubes (no doubt his preamp is already tweaked for a moderate-to-high gain sound) to overdrive/distort more than what his guitar can do alone. No doubt Heafy's amp is already a big and hairy beast. The pedal just makes the amp sound like an even bigger and hairier beast.

  • naw they use it as a base then layer usually a Peavey 6505+ through a marshall DSL and an Ibanez Tubescreamer to cut through for solos. It was on the Shogun DVD. They said they plug in an MXR GT-OD, Ibanez 808, and then amps, set everything at 50% except for volume and then play around with sound.

  • and keep in mind, that with a thicker signal he doesn't lose too much of his tones while sweeping, hammering on and so an.

that's what my experiences with playing guitar showed at least.

take a tube amp, let it crunch, put such pedal beforehand and rock like randy, matthew or whoever you like.

or did you make other experiences?

  • I have this pedal and it doesn't do well as a clean boost, it may work well as a saturated drive which is relatively 'transparent', but the point of the pedal is missed if only used gently. I use a ZVEX box of rock for a clean boost, the best pedal I have tried so far for pushing whatever else I have in my rig.

  • matt hefay uses this pedal.

it doesnt sound like somthing that you could get a good trivium sound out of, someone help me please?

  • The video makes a point of the amount of clarity you can get from it, they use 6505's anyway so they'll be cranked with loads of gain already so clarity is a big deal. They use Marshall 1960BV, the exclusive vintage cabs that have great clarity too (Y)

  • if he uses it, he would use it to boost his already distorted amp, to add more gain

  • is this true bypass???

  • Hardwire bypass.

  • Could Someone Answer a Simple Question for me please. OverDrive Pedals Can Be Gain Boost pedals aswell Correct?

  • Gain boost... ? By that you mean to add distortion to an already distorted signal? Because, in that case, yes.

Although not all can... If your looking to add gain to a tube amp's distortion, go for a solid-state overdrive... I have a really good Swell G-TOD tube overdrive that I tried that with, and it sounded like trash, though unparalleled on clean.

Anyway, if you're looking for one, tubescreamers are pretty much known as the "holy grail". Can't go wrong there.

  • ya but i wouldnt waste 99.99 on this for a boost get a mxr micro amp or a ehx lpb1

  • What Up With The Caps My Friend?

  • Sounds sick!!!

  • Good intro!

How does it compare WITH a distiorion III?

If you use this one to boost the distortion ?

  • what is the song that plays at the beginning?

  • killing in the name - Rage Against the Machine

  • no i mean the song that plays at the very beginning of the video, that funky song. it's awesome.

  • rage against the machine - killing in the name

  • this is a vry nice distortion...and would yu sa that its closest t a guns n' roses distortion? if not which one would it be?

  • doesn't have alot of gain, but tone know is good

  • You should work on technique first. Practice the pinchs nonstop. I practice my doing scales in pinchs. Amd move your picking hand around to see the change in the pinch. Unless you have no distortion or od, then it may not be needed.

  • This pedal really brings out a kind of dirty Hendrix sound with strat, beasty haha.

  • killing in the name huh?

  • Picked one of these up on eBay new for $60. Bad ass pedal. It really can go from mild boost all the way almost up to full distortion. Sounds like a Plexi being driven hard. In a pedal! Controlled feedback, even at low volume and gain, seems easy to manage. Seems like the pedal is bringing out a lot of cool overtones. I like it!

  • @CrystalsWildChild Could it be used on the low gain inputs of a Marshall tube head to be the actual overdrive sound instead of just a boost? Does it do the brown sound well?

  • hey there drmsgtrplayer, dude, it's an overdrive pedal right?? Try the crunch box that is the shit of distortion!! and the financial damage for it is not to bad.......

  • I recently checked out the super plextortion by wampler, it is a very good marshall crunch pedal, especially on the hi gain setting, and works great with complex chords aswell. It is twice as pricey as the crunchbox, but it sounds 10 times better.

  • FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

  • I love all of the people who gave this a thumbs down. They must not know its a line from the Rage song he played.

  • we knew thats y we did it

  • @FINCHster

    that song is a classic

  • Hey Andy,

i want something that can scream (it doesnt need to scream like a tube screamer), that's warm and doesnt muff the sound of my guitar (cuz my little big muff does that already..) is this pedal something 4 me?

  • Check out the fulltone OCD

  • how the fuck are they analog its not valve is it overdrive was intvented by turning the valve amps up until they ditorted

    wtf????
