  • why does everyone making fun of haiku? i'm trying to learn here.

  • @akosihelbert you don't want to learn about haiku here. Half of what she says is wrong. Saying a leaf dances is anthropormorphism which is not allowed in haiku form. 5-7-5 syllables is also incorrect. Just consider 17 syllables to be the maximum. Haiku can have 2 lines or 4 lines. It doesn't have to be 3 lines. A kigo, or season word, is a must in haiku!

  • @writes4fun i kinda noticed that.

  • Haiku really is wonderful, you can hear many many haiku at our channel. We hope you enjoy them. All the best, ~Marcus:)

  • Informative and useful. Haiku seems pretty simple which is why it might be a useful form of art: simple yet can capture a particular image like a snapshot photo. Thanks for sharing!

  • um, um , um...... um, um .... um

  • her haiku is really teh noob

  • Listen to me please!

Stop saying the words "and Umm."

    It makes you sound dumb.

  • Much was left out.

Haiku was originally but the opening stanza of a longer hokku.

Popularity caused it to become a free-standing form.

Traditional haiku requires a seasonal reference.

All quite moot, Haiku is dead.

    Haiku remains dead.

    For we have killed it.

What if I want to go on?

    Would rhyming be wrong?

  • In English haiku, you are not restricted to 5 - 7 - 5 and haikus are not always a comparison. And she's supposed to be a "credentialed" teacher?

    Forgive me. Filler.

  • Nice haiku dackmister

  • i can use this on my report

  • Haiku is certainly not an easy task. It's not just a matter of following the pattern already stated in the video, but a spiritual exercise of both observation and the ability to bring together an idea in only 17 syllables. To describe something in a few words wil always involve wisdom.

  • Any fool can write

a Hai-ku- just stop at the

    seventeenth syllab

  • Gee whiz, do you know how old the Childcraft collection is in the background? Good grief.

  • Good! I have written haikus. Once you get started on this thing, there's no stopping.

Haikus are so much fun. You must think as you write so it makes sense to you and the reader. You can also include God in your haikus. I love writing them. Let's get something started.

  • @MarthaMyDear999 NOT SUPPOSED TO RHYME! gawsh...

  • @doncini3000 It does not need rhyme, and it does not need not rhyme, but it does need to be something --- be it rhyme or not rhyme or perhaps both.

  • As a composer I should find it quite interesting, with regards to the theoretical prospect thereof, of taking a series of related or unrelated Haikus and formulating an opera using these alone.

  • @gblaney k...

  • @doncini3000 "Care to elaborate on this okay?"

  • @gblaney what? whatever you just said sounds interesting and all its just i have a hard tme following what ure saying

  • @dingerdawg "To use Haiku in Opera"

  • It's true that the traditional Japanese haiku has 17 syllables (5-7-5), but I agree with Jack Kerouac that English isn't designed the same way as Japanese, and the Japanese scheme can be pretty limiting in English. An example of Karouac's haiku:

    In my medicine cabinet,

    The winter fly

    Has died of old age.

To me, haiku aren't about adhering to rigid forms that are designed for other languages, but about chrystalizing a moment, an image, and the spirit behind it.

  • First line of haiku

    Second line of the haiku

    Third line of haiku

  • "more broad" or broader?

I think that the last line should link back to the reality of the previous. Image, develop, loop back.

  • Haiku is easy,

But sometimes, they don't make sense.

    Refrigerator.

  • @DLineHero ROFL thats so true and funny=D

  • @DLineHero

  • @tebonz: That is like, the best haiku I've ever read. Genius.

  • Modern haiku doesn't need 5-7-5 syllables

  • @cotecio Correct, however, traditional form is what she is trying to teach here; so please don't talk about how form doesn't need to be this or that. Go write some lazy poetry/freeverse if you're opposed to form.

  • @immobolizeddeath1 Wow, so free verse is "lazy poetry"? Someone should tell Walt Whitman, and almost every major poet since.

  • wow this helps alot
