... majorettes dont do flag, saber or rifle in our marching band... but we do everything else lol (streamers, hat and cane, knife thingys- not sure what they're called yet- hula hoops, chairs, etc)... once marching season is over you can do winterguard, though. is that what this is for?
@BoredomAtItsVeryBest Our school is a little different. The girls that usually spin flag and rifle are one group and the majorettes are another. But when the marching band competes, the colorguard is judged as one group. Because of that, the majorettes learn everything that the other group does IN ADDITION to baton.
@BoredomAtItsVeryBest, they arent called majorettes...they are called baton twirlers, majorettes are drum majors. which is one to lead the band. baton twirlers simply twirl a baton and color guard uses, flags, knives, and props!
@briannabarlow majorettes and drum majors are two essentially different things. maybe that's not how they do it at your school, but a majorette IS a baton twiler, though she/he may use other props. The color guard is by definition JUST flag, saber, and rifle, though it's not illegal to use other things. it's just unusual.
@briannabarlow dude. this is stupid. a majorette does not HAVE to lead the band. that would be the DRUM MAJOR, not MAJORETTE. maybe you should try flexing your google muscles.
The majorettes have been around for decades but it wasn't until about five years ago that they forced the group to take up flag, saber (and a little bit of rifle) so that they can join the colorguard on the field and they can get more "visual" points at competition.
@KinksGem that's really interesting. my marching band just started to use twirlers. we've had one for the past two years (she's stunning at it!) and next year our goal is to have a baton team. but i have never seen anyone else have their majorettes spin anything guard related.
your not smiling!
