  • Excellent video - helpfull and to the point. Just had to fieldstrip my new maverick, and with this video I didn't have to guess how to.. Thanks!

  • Just picked up an 88, helpful video for my first field strip.

  • Thanks for the help!

  • it takes me this long just to get the barrle off

  • Thank you for this video!

  • Excellent video! You really make make it simple and step-by-step. Thanks for making it.

  • Great video... If I could make a suggestion, I'd say wear a hat with a mounted light while you take apart and reassemble the shotgun... The gun , the parts and your gloves are all black and it's hard to see what's what at times... That being said, thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.

  • Just got this shotgun from the gun store this afternoon, thanks for this video!

  • Sir, thank you very much, this video saved my guns life, the bolt was sticking and I had no clue how to fix it. Thanks again. Marcus

  • im having a problem with mine every time i pump a shell falls out the bottom any suggestions

  • @SuperJordan1717 The big question is when in the stroke it falls out. If it's before the slide reaches the furthest rearward position, then there's an issue with the cartridge stop or interrupter. If it's when the slide is at the furthest rearward position, then there is an issue with the elevation arm.

  • @nwrepka its when its at the furhest backward position when i pump to load another shell the one ejacts and one goes in the chamber and then one falls out the bottom idk what to do

  • @SuperJordan1717 Scroll down and read my comments to ElBrisho, from about a month ago, regarding the cartridge stop and interuptor. You need to make sure your cartridge stop and interuptor are working properly. Get some dummy rounds and watch through the loading port as you cycle it. The problem should be obvious. If not you'll have to take it to a gunsmith.

  • nice, was a lil nervous takin mine apart, now i can!

  • bad ass.. now i can do this on mine

  • im having trouble getting the action to line back up any advice?

  • i have one, its simple but damn reliable

  • i haven't held a gun since i was in the army years ago, much more field strip one, your video was extremlly helpful as i couldn't reassembly my new 88 thanx this vid goes in to my favourites for future reference

  • @PARATERRORIST Glad to help.

  • @PARATERRORIST hope i ain tout of line by asking but if i could know im curious as to why u stopped shooting when u got out

  • @hopecamel nothing really just got addicted to jumping off bridges, out of planes, paragliding, it really didn't cross my mind until the weather got bad...

  • Nice vid! I'm trying to get an 88, but they're hard to find!

  • @alajeff i just bought one today!! for 160 plus tax at academy sports and outdoors lol but its the field which has the 28 inch barrel

  • @mireya1rivera Really? I'm from Delaware and the only store we have like academy is dicks sporting goods.... and they do not have the mav88. They do have a pardoner which looks to be a Remington knockoff.....hmmmmm.

  • something about the sound of metal clinking on a gun, I love it

  • Cool!!!!!

  • what did you do at 2:36 with the trigger mechanism?

  • @Ryann2891 Just making sure the hammer was cocked back.

  • @nwrepka so sir im a new gun ower 18 this past august i want a hot gun for shtf /huntin is there much plastic on this is the arms for the pump plastic

  • @cber8860 The plastic is confined to the stock, foregrip and trigger group body. The pump-arms are steel and are molded into the foregrip body.

  • @nwrepka this isnt gonna malfunction and blow my hand off is t

  • @cber8860 I'd hope not. All the chamber locking components are all steel, same as the Mossberg 500. You'd likely run into a failure to fire way before you'd get a kaboom.

  • thank you sir!!!

  • awesome! thank you so much for this !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my shotty and want to make sure it is maintained to the best of my abilities. Like the rest of my firearms. Thank you again :D

  • I was buying a maverick 88 at a pawn shop but after field stripping it I found out the action piece has a dent on the top left corner. The metal is banged up as if it was banged on the floor. Is that bad? Should I not buy it? They don't test fire and there's no warranty so I'm fucked if is detective. I can email a picture if you post your email. The action piece, before you pull it out of the shotgun, if you look at the top left corner, that's where the dent is. It still racks fine though

  • @ElBrisho It doesn't sound like that should be too much of an issue. That "action-piece" or more properly "bolt-slide" is simply a carrier for the bolt and an actuator for the feed arms.

  • @ElBrisho To be sure though: Slide the action fully open and look through the ejection port.. Move the slide 1/2 inch back and forth. you should see the left side cartridge stop move in and out. With the action forward look through the feed port. Cycle the action completely. You should see the right side cartridge interruptor move up and down. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I didn't get a notification since your comment was flagged.

  • I just saw a maverick 88 at a pawn shop. I was close to buying it but after taking it apart at the pawn shop I found out the ACTION had a dent on the edge. It racked fine but that bothered me. Does that affect the gun? The pawn shop doesn't test fire them so I'd be fucked if for some reason it doesn't work. Can someone help me? I can send a picture if you post your email. Its that action piece you pull out in the beginning of the video.

  • ok so i just got my new maverick 88 with the 7+1 mag capacity and i have a question? when i fire it and thin go to reload sometimes the shell will fall between the feed bar arms and kinda dangle their why is that happening i hope you understand what in tryin to explain

  • @a1a2italy I think I do.

I'd check to make sure your extractors are not worn-out or fouled. Make sure that both extractors have their springs installed right. Failing that have a look at the ejector. With the action all the way back you should see a half inch of it. It should taper front the front towards the center of the bolt and have a pronounced lip right in the center that the shell should catch on. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Someone flagged your comment.

  • Thank you very much for the video - it helped me break down my Mav 88 to clean it up. Very informative and to the point.

  • Thanks bro you helped me out

  • man i really think so much i had some problems with putting back to gether i didnt want to pay someone and arm and a leg to put something back together for me i look all the time on youtube on how to fix things my self like oiling my S&W .40cal taking it and putting back the basic thing but you really helped me like that other guy was saying you are a real life saver and thank you very much

  • thanks dude, could not of did this without you

  • For some reason I'm having a problem getting my trigger off my 88 I have done everything you have said. I took the pin out but the trigger will not come out. Dose not have a pistol grip on it so I know it's not that anyone have any recommendations???? It's really dirty I used to shot it all the time and have had not problems with it just want to clean it.

  • @bplinger1984 If it's really dirty in there you're probably going to have to pull like a bastard.

Try putting something through the trigger guard and use that like a T-handle.

  • @nwrepka ok I'll try this thanks

  • thanks for the vid nwrepka, my Home defense maverick (field version when i bought it, now is a lethal cannon of sorts. bought it back in 2007) had NEVER been broken down and thoroughly cleaned, but has never malfunctioned on me ever. this video was really helpful in showing how to break it down to be cleaned and ready for more ammo. thanks!

  • "easy as pie" god I hated hearing that lol. Trying to reassemble I didn't realize you need to push down on the action piece before sliding the fore-grip forward so the video kept passing me and I kept hearing "easy as pie" mocking me as the video ended! Good video though, was nice seeing it as opposed to reading it in the manual. Thanks!

  • Excellent

  • Thanks for doing this. Very helpful!

  • P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

  • Good info, thanks.

    TGS

  • perfect..thanks.....i love the sound of a shotgun shell being chambered...gets me all excited....i just walk around the house cocking it

  • @719iceman lol not ur not alone i stick to my room most the time tho :)

  • Thanks for the vid I just bought the 88 this video is really going to help thanks

  • Thanks for posting!

  • is there a metal trigger housing for the maverick 88 or all metal trigger assembly

  • @winemaker99 Not to my knowledge.

The Maverick is inexpensive because it uses an aluminum receiver and a plastic trigger group. You might be able to substitute Mossberg 500 components but then why wouldn't you just buy the mossberg and save the extra expense and headache?

  • I really needed this video! You must have been thinking about folks like me. The action is a little stiff. What lubes do you recommend and on what parts?

  • @reg59 Happy to help. For lubrication I just use a light application of oil on everything.

  • Thanks so much for this info! REALLY helpful.

  • great how-to video, very well done...cleaning mine was still a huge pain in the ass, though. The hands aren't as dexterous as they used to be. :^(

It was worth the aggravation though, cuz I'll be ready for the next 3-gun match - thanks again.

  • thank you! that really helped me to understand my 88 better.

  • Can't thank you enough for posting this. Concise, step-by-step and idiot-proof. Keep on, bro.

  • cool im planing to get this gun in a weak or two

  • Nothin in there but the wind!! Hahaah legit.

  • Hey I just bought this, It was dirty when i bought it, Thanks for this video, i have this sucker cleaned up n ready to roll. I wasn't 100% positive how to take it apart and i've often found its easier to ask or find out rather then get stuck up shit creek w/ no paddles. so thanks again, nwrepka for the awesome tutorial.

  • @powerhaus4x4 Happy to help!

  • Thanks for posting the video, this is way better than the manual!

Would you recommend lubing all metal parts with millitec?

  • @stukinthe80z

    No problem.

I definitely recommend lubrication. Militec should be more than adequate.

  • Thanks, better than Owner's Manual.

  • @MrMercykiller Not very often. I only bother once it's visibly dirty inside or the action starts to become stiff. There is no need to tear it all apart for external cleaning.

  • Thank You very much for the video, it was very helpful

  • This is a big help, thank you very much.

  • If this is chambered in 3" can it shoot 23/4" shells too??

  • @birdboy999999999

    It sure can.

  • Thank you

  • I'm not sure, but maversicks(its mossberg with aluminium frame?)? has problem with quality of steel. Especially in czech rep. Therefore for example Remington 870 is most popular. Cheap and many parts in shop...

  • @Gangster88232 in soviet russia the shotgun cleans you

  • Exactly what I was looking for, thank you for posting this video. I just bought this same model today. Hope it's reliable!!! Thanks again!

  • @charger19691

    Happy to help.

It's a pretty simple and robust design, I think you'll find the reliability to more than adequate. Mine has never failed on me, and I think you'd have a hard time finding a person who had one that did.

  • haha 325 i paid 220 for mine today :)

  • good just bought one alil cheaper than the mossberg jic with similar performance with stock changed to pistol grip with 18.5 barrel 325.00

  • yea i have been wanting to do a feild strip on it but wasnt real sure how to go about it-still a good vid though thanks for postin

  • good vid man --thanks for postin it

  • @pokitisme

    T'was no problem.

If it comes in handy for a few folks, so much the better.
