@casey3234 That's not right. Lee and Nancy took it #14 in 1967. One whole year before Cash and Carter. Johnny Cash and June Carter recorded it in 1968 -- after having heard Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra's version.
@CountryCarter Hi CountryCarter. Cash knew of "Jackson" in the early years according to co-writer Billy Ed Wheeler. But, the first recording was Wheeler himself on Kapp in '63 -- then another '63 version by the Kingston Trio on the lp Sunny Side. After this -- according to Billy Ed Wheeler's own chronology - Sinatra & Hazelwood in '67 followed by Cash & Carter in late '67. No disputing Johnny Cash knew of the song first -- it just wasn't recorded & released until after Nancy & Lee's.
@Katzeleine Hi Katzeleine. My research finds: Cash knew of "Jackson" in the early years according to co-writer Billy Ed Wheeler. But, the first recording was Wheeler himself on Kapp in '63 - another '63 version by the Kingston Trio on the Sunny Side lp. Then, -- according to Billy Ed Wheeler's own chronology - Sinatra & Hazelwood in '67 followed by Cash & Carter in late '67. No disputing Johnny Cash knew the song first -- it just wasn't recorded until after Nancy & Lee's hit #14.
@KingdomofConnor You would have loved growing up in the sixties. Some of the best music ever made came out at that time. I have many great memories as a child hearing and seeing all of the great groups and artists.
@casey3234 I'm a Generation X-er and I even have to agree the BEST music came from the 60s! I love my 70s and 80s music, but I give credit where it's due!
I'm trying to fit this scene into You Only Live Twice, but I can't imagine where it might have happened. But it's been a few years. I'll have to see it again. :)
You know I really never liked this song much from the 60s but after seeing this video and Nancy is soooo cute...I kinda like it.......I beleive her videos must have been the first along with the Beatles.....
@stangrub1 - Of course, this Sinatra-Hazelwood version was released in 1967, a year before the Carter-Cash recording and 4 years after the original 1963 release by the Kingston Trio.
Nancy Sinatra was very pretty and a very good singer. she was so sisxties blondie!! and those mini skirts and boots! i loved her!

stangrub1 1 year ago
@stangrub1 Actually it's a Leiber/Wheeler composition
(1963) First recorded by the Kingston Trio.
Cool song!
sfaster 1 year ago
@stangrub1 - Of course, this Sinatra-Hazelwood version was released in 1967, a year before the Carter-Cash recording and 4 years after the original 1963 release by the Kingston Trio.
