In the classic reggae song "Johnny Too Bad" on the movie-soundtrack album"The Harder They Come" "Johnny" has a "Ratchet in his waist". Okapi "Ratchet-knives" were knife-of choice for Jamaican Rude Boys.
I got some Okapi's from Ragweed forge- pretty sure their from South africa as their new. They have a really good carbon blade (looks to be as sharp as yours) and while I like the handles they are not really up to much in the way of torquing force lacking bolsters.
That said I like them! The ringlock CS Kudu is also OK but not as cool as Okapi's.
These days I usally carry a douk douk which is a little sharper then the Okapi but stronger framed and slimmer.
nice review. im guessi ng your blade is high carbon?
i have a cold steel "kudu" which is a knockoff of the okapi. the handle is a tough type of nylon plastic, not wood. the "okapi" knife design is really amazing. so simple. mine cost me less than $10 and it could take more abuse than some of my $200+ knives. how do you close yours? mine has a keyring that you pull back.
what part of the world are you in BTW? im in canada.
well, its bigger than mine, but stil, i dont think okapi is made in germany, its made in south africa, and to tell you the truth, their quality is not very good there..mine is from germany....so it's got an eadge.
Okapi, Douk Douk, Opinel, Mercator, Buck (Hunters), all GREAT pocketknives.
