'The Mark of the Rani' was IMO such an excellent story. And it was glorious seeing her completely take the mickey out of the Master. It's a pity everything she was in after that was poorly done. Very interesting villain, amoral rather than immoral
sallyjosie ur being so nice an all. i am tired of hearing people moan about how the new series is terrible compared to the classic. they couldn't revive the show and just make it for classic series fans, they needed to find a new audience!!!!!
in my opinion moffat is a great writer and doctor who is as good as ever!
sallyjosie ur wile nice an all. i am really tired of people rambled on about how the new series is no good compared to the old classic series..... its been over twenty years!! how can doctor who not change. they want to capture a new audience nt just the fans of the old classic series!!!!!!!
Evil Woman by E.L.O.?! Brilliant!!! Man, the Rani was Smokin HOT, & I agree, Claudia Black would make an excellent Rani. A sexy timelord--How cool is THAT!? I missed the episode after McCoy took over as the Doctor...I was busy elsewhere in my life. I like Rani's Timelordian outfit, futuristic and (dare I use such an anachronism??Oh, what the HEY, go for it!) F.O.X.Y.!!
Gilliam Anderson as the Rani! So long as the moronic writers don't have that mega creepy River Song turn out to be the Rani! The less of that character the better! She looks like an obnoxious drag queen! River not Rani! And Kate O'Mara should reprise the role but not with the morons currently writing for Doctor Who! Hopefully Actors with a little dignity will wait until this current batch of half-wits have been replaced!
@sallyjosie So sorry not every woman you see on TV or in the movies looks like an overgrown Barbie doll. Get over yourself. There are too many parallels between River Song and the Rani for them not to be the same person. The Doctor's missed Gallifreyans before--he didn't know Jenny was a Time Lady til Donna checked for her heartbeat. He's missed this one too. If she's not the Rani I'd LOVE to know why.
@danaseilhan shutup! I get so sick and tired of morons who assume they know what I look like so get over yourself and your assuming ways. And since it's been pretty much established that river song is NOT a time lord nor is she the Dr's wife I might actually start to like the character. Moffat is still an airheaded loser. Everytime he talks it makes my flesh crawl. He is so full of himself. Moffat hates the time lords and refuses to bring any of them back. I can't wait till he leaves.
@thesacredyew See I thought that too pretty much from the jump but then we found out the truth. Hopefully they will bring her back at some point. I would love Kat O'Mara, if even just at the start, but if that feel they must recast then totally Claudia Black.
I've just read that there are rumours that Gillian Anderson of X Files Fame could be playing the Rani in the Season 5 finale. God knows how or why this has just suddenly come out of the blue.
@FreakinSweet86 Gillian Anderson would be a great Rani ..but i can't see how they can bring back another Gallifreyan after the End of Time as the only two that escaped the time war were the doctor and the master and everyone else was sent back inside the time lock
@britredneck I see what you mean but remember the Rani is a ridiculously clever Time Lady and could have easily escaped the war by hiding somewhere like E-space
@ZeusOwnsYou ahh my bad i was reffereing to the part of the episode before he got sent back with Rassilon, the prophecy section where it ststated only two escaped the time lock.
very true he could if Dalek Caan can do it i am pretty sure he could
Fantastic regeneration episode - totally underrated. Brilliant performances by Bonnie and Kate. Seriously hoping for the Rani return in the modern era.
Apparently it's just a coincidence and they didn't intend there to be any kind of reference. "Rani" is the hindu translation of the name "Sarah", and I think that's why it was chosen...
I loved her as Patsy's older (gets a cigarette burn on the ear) I mean "younger" sister, in "Absolutely Fabulous". They don't make cheesy British shows any more like they use too!
Ok The Rani is by far the best Doctor Who villian ever! Better then The Master and better then the Cybermen, and esspecially better then the Daleks. Kate O'Mara still looks exactly like she did when she played The Rani, she should play her again in the new series.
That is indeed strange, but maybe it is really just coincidence, but you never know with these types of shows, their writers think way into the future so it could be The Rani. I sure hope it is becasue The Rani rocks.
This is a totally awsome video! The Rani is so cool, they need to put her in the new series of Doctor Who. And it's possible she's alive if you go according to the show, becasue at the end of Time and The Rani they simly bring her back to their home planet to have her work on a new expirement. The Rani is a evil genuis and could have removed the part of her braqin that allows other Time Lords to sence her or she could have even turned human like the master.
Yes, the charity special for Children in Need called "Dimensions in Time". She has a diabolical plan to control evolution, but before she can carry out her nefarious deeds, she traps all of the Doctor's incarnations and various companions in a time loop that has all of them jumping time from 1973 to 1993 to 2013, all the while interacting with the cast of EastEnders. :)
Yes, if done correctly the Rani could be an interesting character in the new series. Lets assume she's regenerated into a young pretty girl. Have her and the doctor physically attracted to each other, but on opposite sides. That makes things complicated. The old Rani (Kate) actually had a pretty nice body in her time.
Unless they DO use her and have regenerate later in the episode...let's say, a 2-part episode. Maybe 3? :) She could say something like "Well you've lost weight and not as stupid as you used to be" or something similar...
That doesn't prove anything. Colin was a we known actor, Sylvester was a kid's comedian known for doing absurdities such as stuffing ferrets down his trousers. I still like them both but i don't think Time And The Rani is liked by alot of people.
if the doctor can become human using a chamellion arch, then put his timelord essance into a watch, they why can`t a human like the brigader or donna ( oh yes let it be donna, i am SICK of all the yayy rose is back crap!! ) become a timelord/lady? then again what would happen if a human opened one, would say the rani`s essance take over that body and transform it into a timelady? imagine donna becoming the rani!! she gave him hell as a assistant! what about as a enemy.
Martha was told to open the fob watch by the doctor in Family of Blood so I doub there's any chance of the essence entering anyone but the original vessel. But if the vessel were dead it might do the body possession thing - the master did that as well.
it would be nice to bring the rani back, the other enemys are ether nonhuman or just greedy, a new rani could be both a real danger and a seductive temptation to the doctor. both threatening and flirting at the same time with him. be a bit of a rival with his female companions!! rose or donna would go crazy!
Yes it was implied they had a romance on Gallifrey. I'd like to see her meet Donna because Donna doesn't have the same interest in the doctor as Rose and Martha - the dynamic is different and she's got a heck of a gob on her.
I'm hoping for a Rani return, a main villain one season but recurring thereafter since her motivations are very different from what we've seen through the series from other villains
If Lucy is the Rani then who is to say that she isn't pregnant. It would explain the mysterious ring scene. Just think, the Masters child versus the Doctors daughter. Hmmm...
Kate O'Mara said she would be interested in returning to Doctor Who as the Rani. I think that if they could get her then she'd agree to come back for a regeneration.
My God. That woman has a huge forehead. Sorry. Love the character... but my God that woman has a huge forehead. No offence intended to anyone :). Actually come to think of it the forehead kind of lessens around 1:10. And then it comes back.

Hi everyone! Ok, let me dispel a few rumours: 1.) no, the Rani is not slated to appear in next season.
2.) When she heard all these rumours Kate Omara did call the BBC and ask to reprise her role. She was told thank you but no.
3.) When Amy Winehouse was asked if she had been asked to be on Doctor Who she replied "F*ck Doctor Who and all that stupid sh*t"
4.) Paul McGann will make an appearance as the 8th Doctor in one of the specials this year.
Sorry if I dashed any hopes out there.
