  • and i actually remember watching this on CSN philly, been 6 years damn, things have changed lol but this was just ridiculus and hopefully this dosnt become the NBA and shit lol

  • UNC pays good money for these games definately should not have won against Villanova but it had been a while since they won a title. Time to break out the checkbook for the zebras.

  • definitely a travel, no question

  • @Wrastler UNC and Duke have great histories. My guess, from your eloquence, is that you did not attend either school.

  • villanova was robbed in this game

  • Maybe someday whiny bitch Villanova fans will get over it.

  • @sportstruth5

    It's not whiny, its sports.

  • UNC National Champs*

*The Asterisk will always be there. Only by a bad call.

  • @younevershutup look, the game would've been tied with the layup and foul shot, who's to say that unc wouldn't have scored to take the lead

  • @younevershutup LMAO, there will never be an Asterisk there..becacuse nobody knows about those calls, mostly because who the fuck cares? It happened six years ago.

Plus, Villanova got lucky in the 1st Round last year because the refs bailed them out.

so you should really shut the fuck up, probably just mad that your program ain't even on the same level as UNC or Duke, hell even NC State has won more National Titles than 'Nova.

  • That was not a travel...

  • Melvin Scott made the comment about feeling like a "kid in a candy store," not Davide Noel.

It looks like the Ray didn't travel. Bottom line, travel was called.

There was no foul in the play, so even if the shot counts, UNC is up by one point and has the ball.

UNC won the game. UNC probably would've won the game had they counted that basket. Doesn't matter, the speculation makes no difference. UNC won the national title.

  • he didn't travel before he dribbled the ball, he didn't travel after he dribbled the ball... even noel (the player who was guarding ray) said something along the lines "I felt like a kid in a candy store"

  • no travel

  • Great point SARA. He did walk before he dribbled. I always questioned that call, but not now. Go heels!!!

  • biggest bullshit call in ncaa history

  • The traveled occur after he caught the ball but before he dribbled it. The whistle should have been blown then but wasn't. It was late and shouldn't have be blown

  • Comment removed

  • @SARAisHOT69 why shouldn't have it blown if it was late?

  • thats right!!!! it pisses me off

  • woo hoo dwest almost spelled everything right

    good going project boy

  • haha thanks im improving

  • jai fais une photo avec Curtis tout a l'heure =DD

  • That was as close a call as u wil ever see in college b-ball so I cant say whether it was right or wrong, but had it not been called a travel he would've still had to make the FT to tie the game so it's not a given that it determined the outcome of the game. However as a UNC fan I remember one of the main reasons that the game was close was the foul trouble of Raymond Felton & imo some of those were as "phantom" as that travel call on Foye.

  • What FT? there was no foul called. NC still up 1 with 8 seconds left.

Count the steps, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT = 3

  • @ChachiArcola

    you're just dumb.

  • Comment removed

  • @MuslimPigFuckers With a name like that, I'll consider that a compliment. You should be banned with that name, but of course you won't be. YouTube is nothing but a troll pit; I should have known better than to comment here.

Also, Philly has the worst fans on earth.

  • I know there was no FT. I was saying that had it been a foul called instead of a travel he still would've had to make the (hypothetical) FT to tie the game.

  • @bull6599 yeah, the only reason they stayed in the game was because of free throws on phantom fouls. There were tons of them.

  • Jeez, I'm a UNC fan and I gotta admit that was anything but a travel.

  • man fuck this referee.

  • Comment removed

  • UNC took championship in 09... dominance

  • He walked when he caught the ball obviously. Just cuz your team gets beat by Carolina all the time doesnt mean you need to turn into a hater.

  • As an unbiased sports fan, since the whistle blew, it had to be a foul. There was contact, but no way way was it a walk. If you do not see that, you are a Carolina fan at heart or know nothing about officiating, just like that ref.

  • I hate how the travel call gets brought up all the time but EVERYONE forgets about Felton's 5th foul (that let Nova get back in the game) which was equally as bad.

Also, even if he hits that 2, UNC is in the lead with 9 seconds left so its not like Nova would have won

  • I knew that we could make it! Way to Go Heels. Championship (Monday Night). I hope we can be 2009 Champs if not. At least we made it that far.

  • Tonight, there will be no official to bail u out UNC.

  • u definately was right about one thing; there wasn't no official to bail out UNC, i think some refs prefer to cheat for the opposite team (whoever) is playing UNC, I watch the game last night, and it still proved Carolina (on top). Love them HEELS!!!

  • I love how Carolina fans are blind to how many calls the refs give them. The refs make a few bad calls against Carolina in the game early on, but when the game is on the line, Carolina gets the call...example this game.

  • i'm glad to be blind. I saw alot of fouls tht the other team got away with.

  • no travel, no foul. bad call, but since the whistle was blown, had to be a foul.

  • no travel, no foul either...just a bad call

  • No ones arguing that UNC wasnt on top at that time. But to say it wasnt a foul but it wasnt a travel either is extremely hypocritical. If your gonna blow the whistle on that play its gotta be called a foul because it was not a travel. The ref clearly realized he didnt wanna call the foul so he changed the call to a travel. Worst call in tournament history

  • you are the only retard. No one says it was a travel. NCAA basketball offered an official apology to Villanova University. Didnt know that did you?

  • You all are retarded.

    Thats clearly a travel.

He catches the ball, then spins around, picking both feel up off the ground before putting the ball on the floor. The TV crew is just as retarded because the two steps on the drive replay wasnt even the call.

The only thing the ref did wrong is call it horribly late.

  • Not true, he spins, one foot in place and the whistle blew 20 feet from where he caught the ball, dumbass. The ref was calling a walk in the lane. Another blind Carolina fan.

  • Watch his left foot dude, it comes up when he spins before he puts the ball on the floor. Easy call.

  • shouldnt have been a foul, definitely not a travel.

  • The travel call is questionable, no doubt... but even if it hadn't been called, cmon, there was no foul on that shot. That would have still had UNC UP BY 1, so enough of people acting like this call definitely caused Villanova to lose the game. Just like the people spouting BS about UNC being "handed championships", hey geniuses, take a look at each of those games again (82 and 93), and notice that UNC was ahead at the time both "incidents" occurred.

  • it was a foul he bumped him you dumbass

  • exactly. No guarantee Georgetown or Michigan do anything. And the Nova bs from 05 is some of the worst sportsmanship i've ever seen. grow up you Nova jackasses. I guess that should be expected when they are fans of a Philly team.

  • UNC handed Championships in 82, 93 and 05 with this bad call.

  • He shuffled his feet BEFORE he dribbled. That's where the walk was. Funny how much play this gets and how little Felton's bogus 4th and 5th fouls get. FTR, UNC was up 11 points with 4 minutes left and 8 when Felton fouled out on a BS call.

Just show you what little bitches Nova fans, and Philly fans in general really are.

  • dude seriously if you dont think that was a travel youre a dumbass ignorant north carolina fan this was a horrible call

  • tonydettore speaks the truth. If ever a team deserved a beatdown because of it's fan base, Villanova deserves one Saturday night.

  • There wasn't a travel, however, I think I see what the ref called. Not on the way to the basket, but I think he called it on the landing, thinking his feet were back on the ground before the ball left Ray's hand.

I'm NOT saying it was a good call, in fact I think it was a bad call, but just giving my opinion on what the ref saw.

  • if that's a travel, then lebron is the worst player in the nba

  • First of all, I said I don't agree with it. But on another note, Lebron does travel a lot and gets away with it. This was not a walk here though.

  • wow i just noticed dat was such a bs call, he took 2 steps clearly, wow smh

  • Comment removed

  • if they had called it a 2 could it have possibly changed the outcome of the game? it wouldve been 67-65. plus it wouldve been a different play if they hadnt made the wrong call earlier.

  • Comment removed

  • Carolina has been handed everyone of their horseshit championships by horseshit calls

  • People stop being jealous over UNC, it really shows.

  • the problem with that ty is the call was clearly made on the drive to the bucket, not when ray caught the ball initially.

it's all good, nova will get their revenge saturday and make roy and hansbrough cry

  • ONLY cries, i saw was coming from the villa. wild-cats bench. Sweet Revenge! Go UNC.

  • The walk is before his dribble begins. He shuffles his feet. Look at 1:09 and 2:26. It's especially clear at 2:26 that he catches the ball and shifts BOTH feet before beginning his spin move and putting the ball on the deck. Just a late call, not a bad call.

  • cmsmhp, his second dribble hits the floor at exactly the same time the first left foot hits, from that point forward he is allowed two additional steps. If you scrutinized mccants' drives like this they would all look the same.

  • Anyone who thinks that was a travel is obviously a UNC fan. He is allowed two steps. I have no idea what this phantom "3rd step" is you guys are talking about. I regularly referee and don't care who won this game. being a ref is extremely difficult, and in the heat of the moment one has to make split second decisions. but there is no doubt about it. this decision was wrong.

  • i can understand that ref is an extremely difficult job, but didn't they re-play the call. And it would have proved whether it was the right call.

  • assume nova isnt called for a travel. unc would still be LEADING BY A POINT... WITH THE BALL... WITH NINE SECONDS LEFT!!!

and everyone forgets the PHANTOM FOUL on raymond felton with about 3 minutes left, which was his 5th... and conveniently nova goes ontheir run right when he goes out.

  • Well, the proper call would have been an "and one" foul shot opportunity. But let's say there's no foul. Then, UNC inbounds, makes two (in real life, the guy only made 1 of 2), and then kyle lowry comes down and hits the 3, which would either tie or win it for 'Nova.

cmsmhp - are you serious? That's the standard 2 steps every college and pro player takes. Go substitute mccants or felton for ray and you tell me if you think it's 3 steps.

  • johne118, you seriously are calling that a "standard 2 steps", LOL! You are completely ignoring that first step he took with his LEFT foot as he began on the wing. He then took another with his right, and another with his left before the shot left his hand. It has nothing to do with substituting one player for another. Three steps is a travel. Period. To call it two is self-delusional. The "proper call" was made.

  • learn bball my friend, get outta UNCs ass..smh

  • bullshit, the proper call should have been an and 1... there was no damn foul on that shot.

and still people are forgetting the phantom 5th foul on felton without which there never would have been a comeback

  • Yeah, and if there wasn't a bogus foul called in the first minute against villanova, the wildcats would have won. . .

Come on, calls that happen with plenty of time left, be they good or bad, are nowhere near as crucial as those made in the last minute. The teams had plenty of time to react and adapt with the situation with minutes left. As pointed out below, fouls are subjective. Traveling is objective. This wasn't a travel, at least as it was called.

  • fouls are also objective. there are rules. they need to be enforced.

feltons foul kicked him out of the game... felton was the one player unc couldnt play without. coincedentally, nova goes on a run right when he leaves the game.

  • i just got done eating poop. It's really not as bad as I thought it would be.

  • bill rafterie came to villanova and apologized that he was wrong that it was a travel.

  • crap call nova will get them now in the final four lets go nova

  • I'm a die hard UNC fan. And that call shouldn't have been made. Listen for the whistle, it doesn't come out of the inbounds pass; it comes after he drew contact in the lane. Almost every collegiate player makes a similar looking drive and it never gets called travel.

  • The travel occurred when Allan Ray spun away from the defender on the sideline off of the inbound pass, not on the shot. That part of the play is edited out early in the video, but can be seen at the 2:26 mark. Ray lifted his pivot foot after the catch and shuffled his feet as he put the ball on the floor. It happened fast, but the call was correct nonetheless.

As mentioned, Raymond Felton's fifth foul was a horrible call, and it took UNC's only good ball-handler out of the game.

  • Thats not when the travel was called you idiot. The travel was called when he made the shot. Get a fuckin clue.

  • if thats true then the whistle was only about 30 seconds late

  • 5th foul on Felton 3 minutes earlier was 10 times worse than that call.

  • a foul is a subjective call, a travel is objective and its a fact that he didnt travel

  • I was there at the Carried Dome in Syracuse in 2005 and the crowd went BERSERK over that call and after the game the court was littered with debris. I'm a UNC fan and thought it was BS call at the time. After watching the replay. It was a good call. Great game. I hope 'Nova beats dook this Thursday night!

  • opening one's eyes and watching the video reveals....dribble, step, step, step, shot.... 1+1+1= 3. 3 steps= traveling. Not the most difficult concept to understand. But it doesn't matter. Anonymous internet posters blocking out the championship from their minds doesn't change reality.

  • Speaking of blocking out reality. Idiot.

  • i agree with everything u said about the championship. the only problem is that he only took 2 steps.

  • No, he took 3. Left, right, and left...that's 3.

  • 3 steps = travel unless your name is Lebron James, who gets 3.5-4.5 steps routinely driving in the lane.

  • where are the 3 steps? fuck unc

  • That was a travel, 3 steps = travel.

  • fucking bullshit call

  • wow, how long ago was this? time to move on

  • Thank you for posting this. Whenever people talk to me about all time screw jobs, they never seem to remember this one. I remember where I was when I watched it and it still pisses me off to this day.

I block out UNC's championship that year from my mind because of how hideous that call was. If the correct call was made (the and 1) along with the momentum Nova had due to the comeback, Nova could have, should have and most likely would have won.

    Terrible call.

  • Nova was fuckin robbed.

  • Please learn that 3 steps = travel. Not to mention he shuffled his feet (yes, the pivot foot) when the ball is inbounded to him.

  • any videos of gerry mcnamara?

  • yea i was there and ppl were like burinig things bec of that call it was intense

  • i was there and it got real scary after the game on the streets

  • Worst walk call ever. Proof of UNC favoritism right there

  • stop hating. It's never favoritism for unc, Hell watch tonight game and see how many fouls Michigan State will get call for. I'll see double-dribbling, traveling, obfensive fouls and they'll get away with it. Refs. know Carolina the better team, but they'll give the opposite team extra chances to win. I'm rooting UNC all the way.
