I personally believe that people should meet certain criteria in order to receive a "procreative license". Things like I.Q and genetics. We need healthy and intelligent children on this earth. The evidence is clear that this is becoming necessary for a large number of reasons. It may sound harsh or cruel, but it's a simple truth.

It's called natural selection, or survival of the fittest, and it's something that many human rights seem to have been designed to curb. As a result the world is becoming overpopulated because of parents who are unable to look after themselves - much less a child. I think at minimum people must prove they can financially support a child, as well as prove basic intelligence and possess a perfectly sane mind.

It has nothing to do with poverty what so ever, it has to do with bad ppl and bad parents. It happens and it's sad and if we find it we stop it, but my mother raised six kids we lived in a homeless shelter and I ALWAYS had food, maybe not three meals a day, maybe not the best, but with good parents you can make it POOR or NOT. At least in this country that is. I'll be damned if someone says to my mom, you can't have your children because you're poor.

Second, I've wondered if there would ever be a good way to legislate restrictions on having children. Maybe if convicted of certain crimes, you can't have a child for x years, and if you do, you go back to jail? That seems like it could have it's own issues though, like back alley abortions, getting rid of the child, or hiding the child. Interesting idea, but don't think it's possible.

I definitely think that someone with a dangerous criminal background shouldn't have children.

If you are a gay or infertile parent, the state does a hundred checks on you to make sure that you are fit to raise children. Why should it be different for anyone else? I don't believe in forced abortions though, because as you said that causes a lot of problems. But, maybe it's for the best that the child be taken a way at birth?

Hungry people eating off dirty trays in the hallways, sitting in stinking, rotten diapers all day, staff recording they gave pain meds, but taking it themselves, etc., etc., etc. No social worker or ombudsman in the place.
