Was is it italy dont have the balls to crack down on the mafia who is involved in extortion and bribery...the mafia does nothing to help the italians so why dont they just crack down....even though most countries have crime groups they have them undercontrol and they dont get inside government contracts,in italy they have the government on the payroll....

it is not just trash, big problems lies on the government who can't handle that part of the city(surrender to the mafia). if their own govenrment cannot protect their own citizens, those mafias will get a bigger pie in th capital of italy or maybe whole of, sooner or later. it's sad to these kind of problem happened to a "rich fashion industry" italy. maybe the UN could help to do something. Please!

This problem, although pretty big, is just one part of Italy. Most of Italy is very clean and people there are more keen on recycling than the US. Others should take a lesson from this.

I've no sympathy for these people. Haven't they heard of recycling and incineration? They could buy a smoke-free incinerator for $3000 and it can burn a ton of trash a day.

I think part of the problem is a lack of business initiative. Let the Comorrah dump the garbage. Someone could make a fortune recycling metal and paper.

I don't get it. Why doesn't the Government stop causing themselves problems and just change their recycling policy, manufacture more bins and control wastage. Enlighten me - am I missing something?

corruption in the people in charge of the city and the italian mafia basically swindled all the money away from the fund that was supposed to have gone towards building the trash incinerators and organising the recycling centres for Naples. So little real information on these events gets outside of Italy (I just got back from there myself and it's on the news very little now as it's been going on for nearly 8 months and is no longer considered news).
