Everyone like this comment! so all the mugs that are confused, have it nice and easy for them watching the video. Tony is shot by the man in the jacket (presumed to be either a family member or some how connected to Phil Leatardo), when he looks up and it cuts to black its because his life has stopped, we had been seeing Point of View shots of T looking up at the door.. he has just been shot in the head and now we cut back to his P.O.V but there's nothing there, just blackness, death
For you people who are still wandering what happened, Tony was killed. In a previous episode Bobby tells Tony that he thinks whenever you die you don't feel or hear the bullet, it all goes black as we could tell by the ending everything went black so all we could do was assume that Tony is dead ...Yes i am sad to but one fucking killer series :)
Funny how Meadow didn't get to the table...Ugh, it somewhat bothers me that the writers left this series with an ambiguous ending. But, I guess that's what makes this television series brilliant and immortal. Wish we could see what REALLY happened to Tony!
RIP Tony you fucking animal! all those women you fucked, hundreds, all those guys you killed, ralphie, pussy, christopher, gloria trillo killing herslef so on and on and on , all those memories are lost like tears in rain, all gone, looks up at his daughter running in BANG killed, everything finished, doesnt exist, life over, can you imagine the carnage of the guy dropping the gun running out, people screaming, AJ Screaming, Carmella trying to help him, eyes just cold, dead, a true masterpiece
The desire to see Tony get whacked is perverse. The first time I saw this, back in 2007, I had two thoughts: 1) Thank God Tony didn't get whacked and I didn't have to see it; and 2) This show will live forever now.
@isieAB No, because "you never hear the bullet that kills you". The top rule, if you wanna call it that, of assassination is to not let anyone see or hear the bullet. There are speculations that he got "whacked" or assassinated in the last scene, but it is still only a theory because there were no explanations of what actually happened.
@isieAB It takes probably less then half a second to pull out a gun. He probably died. Remember when Tony tells Bobby that everything seems to go blank and silent when you are shot
I was washing dishes and listening to my ipod with shuffling on. I was thinking that should I watch some Sopranos or read for my chemistry test when 'Woke up this morning' started. I have like 3000 songs in my ipod so I was like 'OK fuck I will watch sopranos'
Personally, I'm partilal to the idea that it was Georgie, sweet, somewhat slow Georgie whose only goal in life was to get blowjobs from stippers who wanted to work VIP, who had Tony whacked. Come on, the last beating Tony gave Georgie resulted in hearing loss. Reason enough in my book, and let's face it, a beneficent public service to boot. Well, either Georgie or that Russian interior decorator who killed all those Czechoslovakians.
I think the writers did a great job from the stand point of the show. For the viewers, it's a not a very good ending.
The writers left it open to interpretation how it ended so that if they ever want to do a movie, they haven't closed the chapter on the family. I think what they wanted the viewers to feel is that Tony will always have to look over his shoulder. We don't know if he was being paranoid in this scene or if he has valid suspicion. The truce was called so I suspect he is paranoid.
@bubbachump Fuck, dude, it's not open to intepretation--HE IS DEAD. That's the fucking point of this whole scene. There's not going to be any movie. He's not being paranoid when he looks up--he's looking for his family.
Notice how after he looks up, he casually goes back to flipping through the music selection in the jukebox? If you were paranoid, would you be eating onion rings at a fucking restaurant with your entire family? Would you be listening to Journey? Christ on a cracker.
@geargfgeg Think you missed a point here - whether he lived or died, the point was that Tony would ALWAYS be looking at the door. He had to continue living his life. He had to go out for onion rings (rather than sleep in a bed with a machine gun forever). But he'll awlays be looking at the door...waiting... whether he died at that point, or months later is almost irrelevant (although the guy going to the toilet was probably the killer!).
I think that this is supposed to be reminsicent of the earlier season finales when the family gathered in Arthur Bucco's restaurant and could just be together as a family for awhile.
As for the black screen, you're all idiots. Obviously, Tony got shot by the Russian from "Pine Barrens" who finally came back for his revenge. ;)
I think that if u look it enough youll understand that Tony gets shot most likely by the guy in the members only jacket. Google sopranos finale explained...it breaks down the whole episode and the give in at the end is that anytime u hear the bell on the door in the restaurants it immediately switches to Tonys perspective. But the last time the bell rings instead of going back to Tony..it just goes black and silent...which is exactly what Tonys perspective would be..since hes dead.
The black is Tony's POV. The camera shots of Tony looking up towards the door are one second each before changing to Tony's POV. That's why it goes black exactly when it does.
i finally now know what happened at the end of the sopranos.
SOPA got to them and blacklisted the episode.
FUCK SOPA,PIPA and all these other degenerate scum organizations to take down our favorite shows, games, music, movies, artwork, websites and anything that a majority of the whole world truly likes.

Man I still don't see how he dies! The whole scene is him looking. He walks in, we see him look for his family. The door opens, he looks and it's Carmela. The door opens, he looks and it's some out of date asshole (who looks like he was gonna kill Tony) and AJ. And then Meadow comes in and he looks. The end. The suspicious man was without a doubt a factor but the meaning of the scene for me, is that in the end he was with his family.
@Oallright the beauty of the scene is that it's not spoon fed to you...you're taking it too literally and not looking at *why* certain actions are focused on in the scene...what the intent is...suspicious man is clearly in focus several times (and kept out of focus over AJ's shoulder several times too)...the director is keeping you aware of his position because he is important...now, ask yourself why this suspicious guy who has never appeared in any episode before would be important!
its a well put together ending of the season, quite a bit of a summary for it with major headlines...
every person that walked in represented an incident or a major decision Tony made. there is another video that explains it in details. My prediction is: As soon as medow opens the door and looks up he takes a bullet in the head. Why? because the guy that sat at the bar starred at him before he want to the bathroom, which tony's side is facing the bathroom's door. I hope I'm wrong.
I think the last scene could be explaining his panic attacks, the constant fear of having to watch out. I presume this is the ending cause throughout the series this is the primary focus of all his problems.
@Leo012345 It's not a cliff hanger you jackass. It is him dying. There's not any cliff hanger about it. When you die, you die. That's it. That's the point.
If you look, he checks the door every time it opens. So I think that dinner happened as normal, but that Tony's cursed to a life of always checking, and never feeling safe
@GenericAsianBoyLTD He looks up because he's expecting his family to turn up, this whole scene is from his point of view and the reason it goes to black suddenly is because he dies :S
I think Tony takes a bullet in the head, even if we don't see it, if not why such a long time of black before the credits, and previously in the Season 6 Tony talked about his point of view about dying, and descibed it like that.
Ah, I think the deal with Meadow taking 18 tries to park is because she would have been sitting on Tony's right, obstructing the shot the killer has to take when he leaves the bathroom. Well, that and this way she watches the murder when she walks in.
Having never seen the show, I think he dies in a slight allusion to the scene in the Godfather where Michael shoots the captain with a gun he retrieved from a toilet.
and we didnt see him die.... bullet travels faster than sound but we should have seen it hit or at least see Meadow at the door from his point of view.
Oh wow. those r the 2 black guys that tried to kill tony. they both died so I think we can rule out him getting shot by them. just making a repearrance for the finale.
David Chase is a genius. It's all there that Tony dies. The show follows Tony; we've been in his dreams, his mind. Notice how every time the door opens (w/ the bell) he looks up; he's expecting his family. The only time he doesn't look up is when there is noise in the restaurant. This is called Point of View shooting. When he looks up the last time, you get the 10 second black. The members only guy shot him. It goes back to Bobby and the "you can't hear it when it happens." It's all there folks.
@happytree212 Yes we can conclude that tony was killed by that guy that gone to toilet and had a clear shot.
But there are always 2 options... or 3 , and i wouldnt like that tony gets whacked. The other ending can be that the guy just gone to toilet , and that the show simply ended, and the third is that he missed tony and then tony put some holes on that MOG. which i would like the most.
@boklgokl haha, yeah. I wouldn't like Tony to actually die, but it makes sense and it goes perfect with the "can't hear it" concept. The same thing happened to Sil when Gerry (think that was his name) got shot in front of him.
@happytree212 I think the whole point is that somehow Tony always comes through and carries on while everyone else meets sticky ends. The ending allows this ,we know that somewhere Tony is still getting by,perhaps he can go legit, the pipe dream of every mob boss from Don Corleone to Carlito Braganza.
@happytree212 but who knows maybe he didnt die , same as david blacked it , he didnt use the 3rd person after the blackout to show us what happened, and music says life goes on, and on, dont stop ... maybe he survived , which i wanna believe in :)
and every end in series is so good! the music is awesome and it perfectly matches with series , too bad it ended :(
Woao i never realized how much i miss the series... everytime i hear "Don't Stop Believing" my heart goes boom and i drop a tear, remembering the best show i've ever seen...
You viewers are pretty stupid not to realize the suspicious dude in the bathroom popped Tony in the head. He's the only sketchy person (and camera shows him go into bathroom). They even talked about how a sudden black screen was how it felt like to die.
1. Tony gets whacked. The smash cut of black is exactly what Tony is seeing, which is nothing because he was killed in an instant with a shot to the head. We don't hear anything because the bullet travels faster than sound and because he is dead we don't hear anything.
2. It is to show us how Tony will spend the rest of his life. Over analyzing every little detail, everything is suspicious, and he will always be looking over his shoulder.
It's like David Chase said. You all cheered on a sociopath who murdered, stole and cheat. Now you want his blood? The audience deserves the same fate. Empty nothingness.
The scissors are clearly connected to Paulie and Butch; Paulie brings them into The pork store in the final episode. Where did Paulie get the scissors?
The only possible place is that he got them from Butchie at the Flatbush
Waxing and Beauty Shoppe. Butchie holds a meeting there with his crew and obviously knows his way around the place as he puts things away that are on top of the counter.
The Sopranos character Adriana La Cerva is seen throughout the series wearing animal print clothing. She even meows a couple of times while singing along with a song. Her mother is also shown wearing a tiger/cat on her jacket in one scene. She crawls off in the leaves as Silvio shoots two rounds at her. The cat shown in the final episode represents Adriana as well as the tiger on the wall in Holsten's that overlooks Tony.
This was probably to show how realistic these types of things can be and that life sometimes can be relaxing even if your the head of a criminal organization. Tony is a family man and at the end of the day that is what this ending is probably trying to show.
That...or they didn't give a fuck about the ending and they ran out of film.
I just finishing watching the entire series of The Sopranos yesterday, from beginning to end. This last scene was powerful to me....did it end like I thought it would? Hell no! But I was on the edge of my seat the whole time....great ending though. And what a perfect song for Tony to play. Now what series should I buy and watch?
@Sheldon66 I personally hated the ending. It should have ended the way the movies Goodfellas and Casino ended. With the fans of the show knowing the main character's fate.
Never got into the series, but then I saw the last episode and became sad, everyone either metiforicaly dies or literally dies, some memories lost, and I THINK that Tony died, notice how he was wearing a different coat before the scene ,"begins" I think that the only thing that lived was the cat :P
what if they really wanted to make a real ending but they ran out of film shooting this and then they exceeded their budget so they just did it like this anways? trololol?? who knows
I think anyone who says it obvious Tony died, or obvious Tony didn't die is deluding themselves. They're just annoyed there wasn't a clear ending and so are trying to convince themselves it was clear so they can stop going over it in their head! But really there is no ACTUAL ending. It's open to interpretation and there is no right answer!
@asspancakes182 it's brilliant! you should wathc the analysis, then you understand how great the ending is. every little detail was thought about. even the parking from meadow has a message.
People really don't understand this ending.. Tony dies plain and simple.. And it's obvious if you really pay attention to the scene.. Watch the scene again keeping in mind their are showing tonys point of view specifically after the bell rings when people open the door.. The man that walked to bathroom killed tony.. I know this because when everyone walked on the door the bell rang and tony looked up and it showed his pint of view.. When meadow walked in the the bell rang , tony looked and saw
@sbales63 every real sopranos fan knows this. there is a million reasons why hes dead people just need to pay attention. its like david chase said, its all there, you just got look. Tonys dead
No everybody hates Chris did not steal or copy it. It's obvious that they respected the sopranos ending And wanted to recreate it, not steal it. It's obvious they are fans....
@iswatchi well i wouldnt know i have no clue what this is even about my friend just showed up and just flipped out at me. I look at what was paused on the TV and sure enough it was the Sorpronos
This is quite a sad ending. Whatever happens to Tony can remain ambiguous, but the last scene with Paulie and Tony outside moved me. A cold quiet day. No Sil, Chrissy, Bobby, just Paulie and Tony left. And that cat.
Quite simple actually if you dont understand it lol, his daughter is running to the door, and tony looks at the door, the bell rang on the door because she just entered lol, and it ends... :D
@palkintokaappi whats the point? Its a tv show, not a movie. The story ends and thats the way it is. It would ruin the whole show if they make a movie.
@palkintokaappi they will never make a movie. tonys got killed. a movie wouldnt work if its the ending u dont like then u dont understand it. I think the ending is great. a movie would ruin it.
OMG, I can understand why so many people would get pissed!

Oh wow. those r the 2 black guys that tried to kill tony. they both died so I think we can rule out him getting shot by them. just making a repearrance for the finale.
reddragon52894 2 weeks ago
David Chase is a genius. It's all there that Tony dies. The show follows Tony; we've been in his dreams, his mind. Notice how every time the door opens (w/ the bell) he looks up; he's expecting his family. The only time he doesn't look up is when there is noise in the restaurant. This is called Point of View shooting. When he looks up the last time, you get the 10 second black. The members only guy shot him. It goes back to Bobby and the "you can't hear it when it happens." It's all there folks.
happytree212 2 weeks ago
@happytree212 Yes we can conclude that tony was killed by that guy that gone to toilet and had a clear shot.
But there are always 2 options... or 3 , and i wouldnt like that tony gets whacked. The other ending can be that the guy just gone to toilet , and that the show simply ended, and the third is that he missed tony and then tony put some holes on that MOG. which i would like the most.
Too bad those 2 options aint real :(
boklgokl 2 weeks ago
@boklgokl haha, yeah. I wouldn't like Tony to actually die, but it makes sense and it goes perfect with the "can't hear it" concept. The same thing happened to Sil when Gerry (think that was his name) got shot in front of him.
happytree212 2 weeks ago
@happytree212 I think the whole point is that somehow Tony always comes through and carries on while everyone else meets sticky ends. The ending allows this ,we know that somewhere Tony is still getting by,perhaps he can go legit, the pipe dream of every mob boss from Don Corleone to Carlito Braganza.
stricklandsahib 2 weeks ago
@happytree212 but who knows maybe he didnt die , same as david blacked it , he didnt use the 3rd person after the blackout to show us what happened, and music says life goes on, and on, dont stop ... maybe he survived , which i wanna believe in :)
and every end in series is so good! the music is awesome and it perfectly matches with series , too bad it ended :(
boklgokl 2 weeks ago
The guy who shot tony or MOG, is actually FURIO! He had a face lift, and gained weight so he could blast Tony in the face without getting recognized!

You viewers are pretty stupid not to realize the suspicious dude in the bathroom popped Tony in the head. He's the only sketchy person (and camera shows him go into bathroom). They even talked about how a sudden black screen was how it felt like to die.

Honestly, this is either one of two things:

RobertZemeckis1972 3 weeks ago

JBJsop 3 weeks ago
This was probably to show how realistic these types of things can be and that life sometimes can be relaxing even if your the head of a criminal organization. Tony is a family man and at the end of the day that is what this ending is probably trying to show.
That...or they didn't give a fuck about the ending and they ran out of film.

I just finishing watching the entire series of The Sopranos yesterday, from beginning to end. This last scene was powerful to me....did it end like I thought it would? Hell no! But I was on the edge of my seat the whole time....great ending though. And what a perfect song for Tony to play. Now what series should I buy and watch?

I think anyone who says it obvious Tony died, or obvious Tony didn't die is deluding themselves. They're just annoyed there wasn't a clear ending and so are trying to convince themselves it was clear so they can stop going over it in their head! But really there is no ACTUAL ending. It's open to interpretation and there is no right answer!
