Question: We own a chihuahua whom we love, but his demeanor isn't typical of chihuahuas. He's 1 yr old. If you had asked us a year ago if we'd own a chihuahua, we would say "heck no!" We now love the breed, but we want another one who is affectionate with less barking, biting, and spazzing out.
Anyway, how can we look for "demeanor" in an advertised puppy? (Yes, we played with him before we bought, but in 10 minutes, who knows how it will "really" behave when we get him home?)
@pburto It is a tough question but a good breeder can often recognize certain traits in a puppy at a very young age and should be able to help you choose one. It is often a matter of training and socialization when growing up that can help a great deal with this problem.
If chihuahua's werent so Expensive i would buy one, but i cant cause i dont have the money for one right now. How much would you say most chihuahua's range from? the lowest i've seen from breeders is like $300 and sadly to say i dont even have that kind of money. Me and my sister were wanting to Get a male and female and Breed them my uncle is a breeder, so he can help us out with all the Pregnancy and birth.
If you are not familiar with breeding, chihuahuas are not the breed for you. I suggest you talk to your uncle for advise on another breed. There is a large price range, a wide range in the type of breeders and an even wider range in health & quality of dogs. It costs to become a legitimate licensed, reputable breeder...not to mention vet bills and advertising!
Yeah, i've been saving up for a long time i have plenty of money for the bills, im not going to advertise.. i have family and friends who would like to purchase them im not going to continously breed 1 chihuahua thats too much stress on 1 dog. im going to breed her once then get her fixed. We have money if something occurs.. like if she or the pups need a emergency visit to the vet or something, i have back up. But thanks for informing me about it. We've done all our research
Do you think my female will have to have a c-section? The female is 41/2 lbs and the male is 2lbs. This is her first time breeding and she is skinny but not under weight.
Nina I wouldn't know why she should if you are just worried about her size. Just make certain that another bigger dog doesn't get to her too. I don't breed a female smaller than 4lbs and we haven't had to have a c-section yet. (My little 4.2 lbs mama had 5 puppies-wow! She did great!!) You can email me if you have any more questions...go to my site for the address.
