@whiteynut If high fence hunting is not for you, then don't do it, but it's still part of our sport and we all have to come together and support each other or we will all lose it. Some people don't like bait, or dogs, or treestands - hunting is up to the individual, maybe we should all try it with a spear and get back to our roots. I do 40-60 hunts every year and cover ALL aspects, while most are public land, I do everything, this was also a good hunt.

High fence hunting, and bragging about it??? This is the type of hunting that gives real hunters a bad reputation and puts us in bad graces with animal rights activists. Nothing much impressive about hunting a deer in a cage.
@TheGriffinman Not sure if we were bragging as much as just showing. This IS an aspect of the sport and we all have to support every aspect if we want to save it. I don't care what the anti's think and I have no apologies to anyone. Is this really different than hunting the milk river or Texas where we see 70-100 bucks every day? If you don't like HF hunting, then don't do it! No one says you have to hunt over bait, or with dogs, or from a treestand, or with a high powered rifle..
@TheGriffinman these are ALL choices that are up to the individual hunter. I believe hunters who critisize other hunter harm the sport a lot more than fences do! I give away 40-60 FREE youth hunting adventures every year, most are on public land and /or free range, but a few are on select preserves like this one. There IS a difference between a preserve hunt and fair chase, but both are still hunting. A 3 square mile fence is a pretty big area and a larger tract of land than most guys hunt.
@VTHunter4Hunters Yes, its a larger tract of land than I hunt, but my deer aren't caged in there either, I'm confined to my land, the deer aren't. You don't really defend HF hunting other than to claim it an "aspect of the sport", I disagree completely, for the same reasons you know, that its different than free range hunting, because you've taken the challenge out of it by handicapping the deer. What's worse is that you take kids there and tell them that's hunting. It isn't.
@TheGriffinman Sorry griffinman - we disagree. Like the high powered rifle doesn't give you an advantage? how about the treestand, the GPS, the knife, The camo, the opposable thumbs or the superior brain power? A preserve is the perfect place to take a kid who has been hunting for several years, but hasn't scored yet... and it's not because the deer are dumber, it's because there are more of them, thus a better opportunity. I don't care how YOU take the animal, as long as it's utilized.
@VTHunter4Hunters Giving ourselves an advantage is one thing (btw, we don't use rifles in Ohio), disadvantaging the game is another. You don't care how the animal is taken, so it'd be OK if it were tamed or sedated, or leashed? Where do you draw the line, or don't you? You seem like an opportunist, and your ethics are questionable to say the least.
@TheGriffinman My ethics are fine, but it's true - YOU want to shoot a deer on a leash; then go for it - I don't care... as long as you use it after. Leash hunting would not be for me, but I have no problem if someone else wants to do it. Opportunist, maybe; but I sure as heck don't want to tell anyone else what's right or wrong for them. I am in favor of all hunting (and personal choice), by any LEGAL means and still believe we all have to support each other if we want to save the sport.
@VTHunter4Hunters What you're doing is more simular to farming livestock and slaughtering cattle than it is to hunting. In hind sight to this debate, I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong, but when farmers slaughter cattle they don't exactly put it on YouTube and brag about it. I don't think what you're doing is wrong to the point that I'd want charges brought against you, but it holds no merit as creditable hunting, and shouldn't be broadcast as such. That trophy is a FRAUD!!!!
@TheGriffinman Very similar to cattle farming... that's the reason they need the fence. They have so much time, energy and money invested and they have to protect it. I will agree that these deer are no trophies, like a fair chase buck, would be, but that doesn't make them any less awesome. It's a different kind of trophy, but it's still a trophy.
@TheGriffinman My last preserve hunt for example was with a 24 year old handicapped young man who has had 42 surgeries in his life. It took us 6 attempts before he was healthy enough to go hunting and only had two days to get it done. We shot a beautiful buck (and a doe)... are going to tell him it wasn't real? The "hunt" is about the experience and not just the harvest (as I believe you know)... and good times and good hunting can be found on a preserve also:)
@VTHunter4Hunters But I'm sure you're buddy Rocky will mount that buck and boast it on his wall just like a free range hunter would. Will he tell everyone who asks that he shot it in a cage, or will he just let them assume he's a real hunter? Either way he's a fraud. So you admit that ANYONE can shoot a buck in a cage. It's like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded. If anyone could fly to the top of Mount Everest, it'd kinda deglamorize getting there, huh?
@TheGriffinman I really don't know Rocky, He wass just at the same hunting preserve as me and a youth hunter, so I have no idea what he will do. I agree, it's not the same... but I still think it's hunting. Is it any different than hunting the Milk River in Montana or the King ranch in Texas - those place too are more like shopping than hunting. I agree that there is nothing like fair chase and that's what I prefer, but I also enjoy quality preserve hunts as well. We hunt where the deer are.
@VTHunter4Hunters Have you been to the Milk River???? I bet not. Because if you had you would know that it's not like riding arround on a utv untill you find a deer that cant get away from you!!! I'm all for freedom here in this fine country we live in but don't compare this to the 186" buck I shot on Government land. It IS NOT THE SAME!!! But I bet it tasted better being fed grain all the time!!!!...lol
@turkeycreek1610 YES, I hunt the milk river just about every year. I've hunted around Hinsdale, Chinook, Havre, excellent hunting there. Why do you hunt the Milk river? Is it because they have a lot of big bucks? Why not stick to not so hot States like Vt - come here and shoot a 180" buck and U will impress me. You are right, high fence is not the same, but it's still hunting. Unless us hunters all stick together and support all aspects of hunting, we will lose it & no one will hunt anywhere.
@VTHunter4Hunters: I agree we need to stick together. Im just saying its not the same as a free range deer. Oh and by the way I will come to VT and I will shoot a 120" buck and be proud and dont care if it will impress you or not. I shoot the deer I want to shoot and I do not care what others think. Good luck this fall.
@turkeycreek1610 I would be proud of a 120" Vermont buck too. The trophy is in the eye of the beholder, you are very right. I believe Rocky was very happy and proud of this high fence buck also - you are also right that it's not the same, but as long as the animal is utilized.... who cares? Weather it's a fence, a bait pile, a treestand, hunting with dogs or even hunting in general; there will always be critics - but it is still hunting and if we want it in the future, we all have to support it.
@turkeycreek1610 you can't shoot the Deer you want to shoot it is violation the state's law, you have to shoot all the Deers not just shoot the one you want to shoot, ahahhaha just joke
Rocky snuffed a pet buck lol way to go rocko!!!! just walk around in faded walmart camo and blast a monster buck who thought you were there to feed him apples and corn hahahahahaha you bought a buck
@kcalbraeb This was no pet. As you could see in the video, this was a very wild deer. Rocky did PAY for this hunt, but does that really matter? I guess it matters about the same amount as where he bought his camo and how old it was. I agree that high fence hunting is NOT the same as fair chase, but we have to all come together and support all aspects of our sport if we want to save it and have it in the future. Pretty simple stuff to me, if you don't like fences, then don't hunt there.
How many 180 class bucks did YOU harvest or even seen? Statistically, only 1 in every 2000 hunters will ever get to SEE a record book buck (170 class) or up. Rocky got to do what a lot of other hunters wish they could do, but never will. So he could afford to pay this farmer for the oppertunity, does that make him a bad guy? I hear what your saying and I agree a free rang deer of this size would be much better in my book too, but I think Rocky was thankfull for this oppertunity. thanks 4 watchin
Awesome buck, congradulations. I'm asseming you live in the North East and honestly, I thought one good poke deserved another Plus ALL hunters are great at ball busting (you know that too I bet). Any video of the harvest? I live in Vermont so I really know where you're coming from. 150 clas is a MONSTER around here too (and everywhere else in the Country). A buck to be proud of for sure.
@VTHunter4Hunters If a helicopter dropped you off at the top of Mount Everest, would you claim you climbed it? I think most people agree that what you are doing doesn't merit any credibility, let alone it's just not very respectable. Fencing the deer in is bad enough for the deer, it's also not very neighborly of you.
im from ohioand this is totally ashame to hunt fenced deer anyone can do that WOW

Love the buck, but that guy didnt seem to excited to kill a deer like that? i wonder how much he paid to kill that deer?

Estate hunt? This isn't hunting! It's a canned shoot and if it's "the future of hunting" then hunting is already dead.
