  • He's good. I think he should stick with more of the blues feel for this song. He has too much R&B, rock flavor. Also, he turned this song into a guitar trick fest.

  • Fantastic sound

  • great guitar.

  • Philip is a beast !!!

  • this guy fuckin rocks.

  • reverb :)

  • Here's the thing about Philip. He's heavily influenced by SRV, so are A LOT of other players, but, IMO, he's THE ONLY ONE who is taking what SRV, Jimi, etc. did and taking it further. As much as he'll play SRV riffs he'll do things on the guitar I've never heard or seen before. Case in point: 2:29-2:35. Show me someone else on the planet who does that. That's right, you can't. NOT TO MENTION....his voice is far superior to all these other blooze guys these days, and he writes incredible tunes.

  • Very enjoyable player....

Pretty funny all the SRV comparisons, as if SRV invented the strat/fender amp tone. He didn't. SRV was an Albert King act in a Hendrix costume.

Every musician in the history of music has copied someone.

The Strat/Fender amp tone is probably the most commonly used setup there is. Deserves no hate.

  • This guy, and his feel <3

  • does anyone else agree that he looks like michael starr?

  • What do I hear ??? An Out F'ing Standing guitarist and vocalist playing some truly Out F'ing Standing Blues ..... Who does he sound like? He sounds like HIMSELF, playing with passion extraordinaire !!!! All you ignorant comparison freaks should just listen, enjoy, and STFU !!!!

  • Now there's a man that knows his instrument.

  • Great!!!

  • his tone is just really similar.

  • I got one for you - SRV borrowed more licks from Albert King than Phillip Sayce borrowed licks from SRV - Does this make SRV a copy cat? At least Phillip got his own style

  • @tkosmell000 Thank you. I've been saying that for years.

  • I could eat that reverb. Sweet tone!!!!

  • WOW !!!

  • yeah this is guitar playing to its finest

  • he is fuckin amazin !!!!

  • ok lets get it on!

i am a huge SRV fan and got pissed by the rip offs too, however if you bothered to listen to philips albums or listen to his playing there is a huge difference, yes tone wise its the same but philip isnt stuck with playing blues etc its more rock/funk based and he has his own feel on it its a lot heavier than SRV

get off the guys back he is a great musician in his own right!

    peace

  • Amo a este tipo de verdad me enorgullece no que suene y que tenga mucha influencia de SRV, lo que me encanta es que de verdad pone sus sentimientos y se une con su guitarra cuando la toca, le pone en grande

  • I dig this...right on man! Thanks for sharing. Great stuff man

  • This guy can obviously play with feeling and tone - if you're slagging him off, I'd like to see you play next to him - SHUT UP

  • I'm so fed up with the comments regarding SRV copying etc.

1 - would you rather see SRV's music and influence die? (and A King, Jimi, and others' for that matter)

2 - you'd rather see bad players and bad music?

3 - check out the artist before commenting if you don't know them. Philip's stuff is super original

4 - Stevie borrowed from other players too. He would smile and be proud to influence other players now. He was all about soul, honesty, respect - all the opposite of the "Youtube" haters

  • @strasale Absolutely!! At first everybody said that SRV was just another lame Hendrix-wannabe. Yes he took some licks from him, but so what. He is one of the best blues guitarists. SRV just took that Jimi-stuff and added his own twist to it. And so did Jimi. Nowadays it seems that everybody, who is playing blues with old worn strat gets bashed as a SRV-wannabe. Listen to Innerevolution. It's a brilliant mix of pop, rock and blues. Or Ruby Electric. One of the best artists around! PHILIP YOU ROCK

  • @CrossfireStrats True to an extent, I feel. But I also feel that to be 'up there' with Jimi and Stevie Ray, it takes something 'extra'. With Philip, although I am awed by his ability, I don't feel what I feel with Jimi and Stevie. It is much more technically correct, has amazing range, it all sounds and looks good. But it is the being thing that comes first for me, and I don't feel it as strongly with Philip. I don't know 'where he is' if that makes sense. I'm not hating.

  • @strasale Amen. Honestly I am so excited to see the spirit and style of SRV carried on through other COMPETENT artist.

  • Stop the SRV clones!! It outta control!

  • There are feelings on his guitar ... Very good!

  • srv clone

  • @nicmang no he looks and play more like John Mayer ;) my favorite singer songwriter guitar player ;D

  • @jojyie john mayer is fully influenced by srv . this guy plays well but all i see is srv , would be better if he'l play something with more of his personal touch

  • @jojyie i know that ;D yes it would be better ;D but i play guitar since now about 7 months and i think blues is the hardest genre with fusion and funk ;D but i never wanna be any "CLONE" ;D i try to learn first different styles like slash john mayer hendrix and some other guys i like and then find my own style and way to play guitar ;)

  • Lol anybody else hear

    "Yeah!" "Yeah!" "yeah!"..."uh YEAH!"

  • passion just like Stevie and Gary Moore, blues on brother

  • @davidriggs1955 Sarcasm or genuine?

  • You fucking blues purists are all so far up your own assholes. This guy smokes you all 1000 times over, and you know it.

  • Hi I wish you success

  • Pure SRV! Great!

  • Can't a man just sing the blues and play his guitar without being slated as trying to copy other artists?

Music is ALL about inspiration and influence, this guy is clearly influenced by SRV, that doesn't mean he wants to BE him ffs. People get a grip. Philip is very talented and amazing at what he does - just enjoy the music and get off your high horses, you fucks.

    Long live the blues <3

  • @jessicaR4bbit well said bro..just the moment with this dude

  • hes playing a white black1.... so its a white1 right???

  • @SmiffyDelta It's not a black1.. It's a white 60s relic strat. That guitar was naturally worn down too. Which makes it so much better(:

  • Am I the only one to hear a bit of Richie Kotzen in his voice?

  • @PrathmamDhra Yes

  • just another stevie wannabe

  • @gatty52496 i'm gonna have to disagree with u buddy, in my opinion he's pretty different from srv, has a distinctive tone of his own, but it's undeniable that he is heavily influenced by stevie, as i think many of us that came here are... well... thats just my point of view, and even if he's copying srv, hes just continuing the legacy ;)

  • It's been done before...and far better.

  • a bit to much selfcentered, caused him to play out of timemesure. Should alway listen to the band. He's great but a bit over the top

  • @bluesdriver40 That's the way I feel about him. He is an amazing player. After the first 10,000 notes, there is really nowhere left to go to build the song. I can't stand blues shredding.

  • @bluesdriver40 Agree. He is just too much, too self-centered. I wonder what his motive is to play guitar. It's just a show off. He don't know how to play this song. First I thought he was John Mayer. It gets pretty darn boring listening to him after a while.

  • I would give my left nut to get that tone. HUGE stuff dude!

  • Marvelously performed!

  • thats a so amazing solo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like this cat!...Very Stevie Ray-esque

  • Unreal, simply unreal !!!

  • Great tribute to the legend that was jeff healey, phils a fantastic player but does he where sandpaper shirts to get a strat to look that fucked

  • @kenny981 nah he just plays the hell out of that 63 strat thats all.

  • I was at that concert and there really was not that many people 50 tops and he was louder than god!! It was one of those gigs where you can say I was there, it was quite extraordinary!!

  • @jeremycharlest i hear what your saying. every time ive seen him live its was almost an out of body thang..he just takes you far away! its freaking great! Sayce is awesome and such a nice guy as well.

  • Didn't know about this guy until 3 days ago...now all I do is watch this video

  • Does anyone know that if the guitar is reliced (just invented a word) by Fender or is he using a drill instead of a pick?

  • the force is strong in this one

  • Combination of Tin Pan Alley and Since I Been Loving You.....But thats great....

  • now this isn't at all modeled around "tin pan alley deh

  • @lyntonio And Stevie wasn't influenced at all by Albert King........whats your point?

  • @Johaneeeek I'll let you work that out

  • no one yet has been better than stevie ray v

  • @nasel1 Do you have a habit of stating the obvious buddy? This isn't Philip Sayce aiming to be better or as good a SRV, it's just a great version of an awesome tune. Grow up.

  • so great!

  • Reckon Philip used to listen a lot to SRV - sounds just like SRV playing. GREAT !!!

  • paradise !!

  • O MY FUCKING GOSH!!! AMAZING MAN, AMAAAZING!!!!

  • How could someone even compare this guy to John Mayer?!?! John Mayer is a strong player. Philip Sayce is other-wordly. John Mayer is stiff and easily defined. Philip Sayce is raw, powerful and absolutely full of soul.

  • @jbone3684 You forgot to mention the part about john mayer being a complete narcissistic wanker...

  • How could someone even compare this guy to John Mayer?!?! John Mayer is a strong player. Philip Sayce is other-wordly. John Mayer is stiff and easily defined. Philip Sayce is raw, powerful and absolutely full of soul.

By the way, this song may sound like "Tin Pan Alley", however, it is not!!

  • @jbone3684 Every slow minor blues sounds like tin pan alley lol.

  • Sounds like Mayer. But this guys is really good.

  • This White Boy Ain't Bowl-Shittin!!!!!

  • What is the reason? Too hurry, sounds like crosstown traffic ;))

  • I can only think of two people that play better than Philip Sayce and both of them are dead

  • That is a fiiiiilthy good tone! niiice!

  • wow. just wow.

  • mayer kinda beat this guy to the punch sadly lol....

  • Went down to tin pan alley....see what was going on

Things was too hot down there....couldn't stay very long

  • Nice job , nice clean player a little less reverb and a slightly fatter sound and this guy will be in business , good vocal also

  • @AshStrat1 He said that he likes a lot of reverb because of his Albert Collins influence. I like less reverb, too, but I think his sound is fat.

  • Get over it! I'm not saying it's a problem, far from it. And blaming the lack of originality on YouTube compression proves that you have no clue on what you're talking about

  • I was there! Stop beIng a cock sucker, it's just tin pan alley but with Albert kings words.

  • hey get a load of graham foster's version- search graham foster/gary brewer and yr find it. little sister were one of the top pub bands in the 80/90's. and graham is a fab lead guitarist....he plays in spain now,so u can catch up there!!!!

  • hey

  • what are you using for an amp...is it modified?

  • Im gettin tired of everybody trying to be SRV get your own style man. I love Stevie too but please do yourself the favor man. I dont mean it as an asshole. Your more of a Colin James though. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece

  • @9timesnine Man stfu please

  • @lllzehcnaslll Man stfu please

  • In the Zone !!!!!

  • Omg, this guy is fantastic... The new bluesmen generation it's awesome : John Mayer, Dereck Trucks, Philip Sayce, Scott Mckeon, Matt Schofield !

  • Pretty amazing playing but I don't like the tone at all. Sounds a little tinny to me, and it sounds like he's got his reverb tank turned up to 11.

  • @scrumpymanjack it sounds thin because it looks like it's just being filmed by some dude with a camera by the stage. i'm sure the sound would be a lot better if it were a professional production. The reverb is probably up quite a bit though...but that's not necessarily a bad thing

  • @samjad1 great comment. Thanks from some dude near the stage and all the dudes near the stage that make youtube worth visiting.

  • @strasale gotta admit i'm pretty jealous of some dude near the stage for getting to see this up close and personal. I sincerely hope you didn't take any offense to this. it was just an explanation more than anything cause a lot of people don't know how sound and recording work.

  • Wish that Philip will play more bluessongs like this one!!!

  • from heaven sent

  • Finally someone who can truely pickup where Stevie, Rory & Jimi left off. Sounds fantastic, not one thing to pick apart here at all. soul soul soul...

  • This is Albert Kings as the years go passing by...

  • @ab763 Thanks. I love Albert K, should have known. Anyway, nice to finally add this after 3440 views...

  • this is the definition of greatness. period.

  • in my opinion he really starts to freak out inside around 5 and a half minutes... he just lets it all loose and breaks it open for the solo later on

  • Texbis, what the he'll are you talk in about if I could play guitar like that I,d be shown off, what do you expect him to do stand there and look wooden?some people are never happy!

  • I think He's awesome,amazing tone....

  • all the time he is trying to impress audience its annoying great guitar player but annoying style.

  • @texbls It's called balls, you can't stand up there and channel those artists and emotion without it. You shouldn't pick up a guitar unless you're ready to show your balls.

  • @postaflip7 Damn right!

  • @postaflip7 so many people get arrested for showing their balls esp to nice young ladies.

  • @stargate669 well played, though I see no losers in this case 8)

  • @texbls Fuck everybody man. I know what you mean. Hes forcing his self to look into it. Its annoying as fuck. Hes good though. Right on.

  • This is absolutely f----n amazin

  • crazy ass tone !!

  • 54 OR 52 IF your a real guitar player U will KNOW and I not talking about Mother her self only her strings !

  • Face melting guitar playing, awesome tone, a really nice guy. Philip you are the artist of the century for me!

  • awesome

  • tin pan alley

  • @bwady15 Same key, too.

  • @bwady15 based on youtubes compression, and the fact this was a balls deep volume overload for the camera, you dont have much room to talk down the tone on the internet - unless - you were there!

  • @evhgl87 Probably one of the sanest things i've read on youtube....

  • sing it mother-aka Philips fender strat that was gr8
