Crazy Boeing 737 Crash Landing

Both the Pilots got the sack for this, the plane was landing at Birmingham on Auto-Pilot, the captain mistakenly switched the wrong switch (the Auto-Pilot).

It's a moot point wether this pilot was to blame in the first instance by attempting a landing at EBX when the weather was clearly below limits. The obvious solution would have been to divert to BHX where the conditions were near-perfect, thereby avoiding the situation altogether. All that said, this approach and landing were copybook stuff - the dual-line braking system obviously still functioning to allow the pilot to balance the drag of no.2 engine.

Sorry, don't know the history, background or circumstances leading up to this landing, but just watching it once, all seems to indicate that the pilot did land on only one of the set of rear landing gear and was still able to keep the plane horizontal and wings didn't completely tear off......and no lose of life or likely injuries. Pilot did their job. I think that if I had to, JUST HAD TO, be involved in an incident like this, I'd want this pilot in the cockpit.

Gear was damaged because the plane missed the runway (on the first landing attempt), presumably because the autopilot was accidentally disengaged while trying to respond to an ATC communication at a most inopportune time... They probably remained on board so they could hang their heads in shame... in private...

I didn't see any "crash landing." All I saw was a skillful pilot land a plane without his right landing gear. Looks like he maintained good directional control, too. No biggie. I doubt if any drinks were spilled on the plane.
