AHHH..lol..BTW, I thought you were referring to the Canadian recovery school at CFB Borden Ontario Canada... sorry for the confusion. Just noticed the spelling of B-O-R-D-O-N... oh well..great memories anyway.. :-)
@smelyalata I believe Bordon was named after the Canadian Borden, There was a heavy Canadian presence there during the war years.....It was originally called Bordon Camp, But the camp part was dropped, not sure when though. It is or was home to the REME trade training school. (SEME).
@23vin850 , CFB Borden opened in 1916 to train CDN forces in WW1, and expanded in 1917 to become home to the Royal Flying Corps Canada and also became home to the Canadian Tank School in 1938. I took all of my RCEME( LORE, LEME, REME) courses at this school and previous to that I also took my courses as an Aero Engine Tech at the Canadian Forces Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering School (renamed; Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering in mid 90`s).
chevy looking van being winched is an rb44. reynolds boughton. was introduced to replace the 1 tonne l/rvr gun tractor. unfortunately it was garbage..
Skylinegtr34ful. I had another look and haven't seen a Soviet vehicle- i noticed a Volvo and a few more British makes- Commer, Leyland, Foden and Morris- plus a few American vehicles. I don't know if there's a Zil in there- more than likely. My comment a while back was just that I cannot get my head around the fact that this country does not manufacture big recovery vehicles- or trucks of any size except foreign makes and the British government gave a big order to MAN- instead of LDV Birmingham
Once the big recovery vehicles the army used were made in far flung out of the way places like Watford and Basingstoke or Southall. Now they're made just up the road in Vienna- or is that "Goodnight, Vienna?"
You will probably get fast tracked, depending if you choose A( tracked & heavy) or B(wheeled).
It is dead boring at Bordon. I was rech mech but got out thank god, now I'm much happier in civvie street where I can tell a manager they are wrong without having to abide by some twats that went to uni and havn't a clue.
christmas day is the anaversary of the death of jason garett or J as so many would call him he was in REME for many years for all thoughs still there keep up the grate work that you do
Was that because you were REALLY lucky and did phase 2 at SEME and then got 4BN as a first posting? 4BN's at Tidworth now, would that have been any better?
Sorry to say no. All though that was one of the reasons we were there, they were still new and not being used. I hope one day I will get invited back to film them working.
@andysvideo i am an officer cadet and i was invited to one of reme weekend and i was allowed to drive the new MAN . its so easy to drive i feel like i was driving a ford focus :)
