  • Excellent piece of footage. This is history in action. If only we can re-create the atmosphere of those days. Colourful costumes.

  • @ricardo14975 If Trini Revellers or Brian MacFarlane can recreate this, they good, they real good.

  • Is that Holly Betaudier and Allison Hennessy's voice i'm hearing. My goodness they have been around for a long time. Allison still going strong.

  • @nicolewism Allyson passed away last night!

  • Sad now how we gone from art to duttiness now :( no wonder so many Trinis have diseases now ...

  • kool stuff..

  • who is doing the narration? You are doing a great narration. This was the carnival I remember & love. I am so disgusted by carnival today - the costumes are all the same every year - maybe more & more vulgar each year. No character, no taste, music you cannot even chip or jump up to! Brazil has taken over Trini carnival unfortunately!

  • @bronco3250

In Brazil they do the nudity to my friend...I wouldn't be surprised if they started the trend.

  • Fantastic; a great time with out the vulgarity and nudity of today. Bravo, I'll take the old days any day!

  • I want to thank you for sharing this video. i have been away from Trinidad for over 50 years so it was very nostalgic. There should also be a wonderful story behind the flim. Who made it? Who are the people currently presenting it? Again, thanks to making it available to the world

  • OMG, I love this, when I was a really small child in the early 80s, bookmen, babydoll, boroquettes, bats were so evident......so sad its all about bikinis now

  • Y'all should subscribe to my channel. I will be posting some amazing films of carnival from around 1957. I already have several old movies from Trinidad posted which I'm sure you'll enjoy!

  • I would love to know what they were dancing to.

  • Allison and Holly, you are both wrong in some of your comments. This was the era of the likes of Mansie Lai, Lyle Ackrill, Harold Saldenah, and yes, Wilfred Strasser, etc. George Bailey came on the scene about a decade later.

The Indian band you would have to be either Starland, or Silver Stars, they were the only ones to portray "White Indians".

I'd love to gain physical access to some of these footages.

Please call 1-868-620-4957 for more insight

  • Unfortunately, Holly's memory is inaccurate, and to correct you, this was the era of the likes of Mansie Lai, Lyle Ackrill, Harold Saldenah, etc.

George Bailey came about a decade later.

Thanks for the nostalgia, I'd love to get physical access to some of these footages.

  • The influence of Hollywood movies from the 1950's in quite evident.

  • who know what holly say bout the indian mas?

ah wish we did still talk patois...

  • Thanks for posting. It's great to see the older mas. Have you come across Strasser playing a penny? It was around this time, and they still talk about it.

  • wow!, where did you get this video?

  • Very interesting. I have all the Trinidad Express carnival picture books at home dating back to the 80s. It's cool to see how it has been evolving.

  • this is amazing!!

  • Aye thebookmann,
