  • HAMMERKLAVIER ( Piano with a hammer ! ).One of Felix Mendelssohn piano sonata was modeled after this sonata and thge opus number was even a close match to this op106 of Beethoven !

  • I'm sure Kempff's would be very touched thought all of our comments and love for his music.

  • Great sonata. Hammerklavier.

  • Kempff rules.

U know Kempff's piano teacher was friends with Franz Liszt!

  • kemph always does it best

  • The master pianist. Well done! TY.

  • he is smiling xD

  • wonderful!

  • I love Kempff's Beethoven interpretations!

He brings out all the greatest human qualities, he's so deep yet so natural.

  • ...he is really the greatest and finest beethoven interpreter who ever lived.i heard him with op.106 in concert.he played so magnificent and particularly the famous "adagio sostenuto"was such a great interpretation that i was completely speechless how beautiful it sounded.i dare say that he was the truest and most genuine interpreter of the master´s piano sonatas! :))

    i shall never forget him

  • @kajohada: AMEN!

  • Wilhelm Kempff recorded the entire corpus of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas in the early 1950s, issued in the US on Decca. Comparing his recorded performance of the 29th with this one, the tempos on the recording are slower, frocefull, & without mistakes. Here, one senses he had to fit the performance into a condensed television time frame, thus the clipped, error-prone rendition--but isn't it grand, nonetheless?!

  • Fantastic!! This piece makes me feel that I'm in one of the world's famous and fanciest restuarants.

  • Yeah the bit before the puddin - though Beethoven wrote it on a picnic

  • i believe he was Shroeder as a child... can you see the similarities??? :)

  • uhhh whats a Shroeder? (and please dont slay me!)

  • AH!!! lol, you don't know Shroeder!? the Peanuts!? by Charles Shultz!? comic/many tv specials!? the little piano playing dude!? he only plays beetoven!!!???

  • no, i can hear em

  • OMG! What a pity he died, his playing was amazing!

  • well he was born in the 1800s so.......

  • Well, 1895, so it's a bit misleading to say 'the 1800s', though I suppose it is true. If he were alive today, he'd be 112...XD

So all we have is videos. :-(

  • yeah that can appen

  • I sat here with my back bent at a right angle the whole time but I didn't notice until 30 seconds after he finished lol too good.... although 'too' is not a bad thing like too much

  • This is the epitome of a scherzo - so light and happy! Further, Kempff looks like he's really having fun...a true artist at his niche!

  • 1.34 LOL LOL LOL !!!!!!!

  • lol yep he's having fun :)

  • SO SOFT. OMG. FANTASTIQUE.

  • That was a surprise, in the middle run. So light- but very nice. It's good to hear this.

  • Kempff's rendition made me laugh and cry at the same time. A really delightful piece :-)

  • I get the same feeling from his playing, its perfectly balanced and so ..."Righteous" and honest.

  • incredible.

    Absolutely incredible

  • Kempff and VAI rulz!! :-)
