  • double money back guarantee wow and this was after the great depression

  • 0:08 hell yeah :D

  • In the old times, you could just give the box back and get the double of money back, what you paid...

  • I am a bit confused, she's washing dishes with it but the pack has a picture of a frock on it?? is it for washing dishes or is it for clothes????? Maybe it's dual purpose?

  • I'm on a horse.

  • This is a very good commercial - from an advertisers perspective.

  • 1:01 OMGWTF?!

  • "return the box and get double your money back" oh really? :P

  • Is this ad for real? Or is it a modern 1930's style ad satire?

  • @visor109 agreed, this does not look like something from the 1930s, seems too modern

  • Hollywood technique? I think its called scotch tape.

  • Yeah, I am gonna go out and score some Dreft. I will snort some, wash my dishes and clothes. Wonder what a gram of Dreft is going for now days.

  • I thought dreft was laundry detergent?

  • @kodiak410a theres laundry detergent that you can use for anything. its a powder.

  • @kodiak410a No it's for dishes

  • @kodiak410a

Soaps and detergents were once marketed for both laundry and washing dishes. Dishwashing liquids for hand dishwashing didn't come out until the 1950's, and laundry detergents were no longer marketed for dishwashing use by the time enzymes and other stain removers were added in the late 1960's...enzyme detergents were known to be harsh on hands. Also, before the 1950's, most laundry products were soaps. Now it's mostly detergents.

  • Werent you supposed to rince the dishes!

  • ask ur dealer for dreft! wat r they trying to snort some dreft?

  • i snorted Dreft

  • was it nice and soft

  • its Mrs Smith's back door for us!!.. 1930's innuendo for the win :D

  • Hah! I also caught the humor about Mrs. Smith's back door.

I bet she has a back door man!

  • OMG DOUBLE THE MONEY BACK? *sigh*

  • yeah you could just keep on buying it and then sending it back over and over and over until ur rich!!!!!!!!!

  • 20 or more years later, TV commercials were still pretty much the same thing - comparisons between the sponsor's product and the inferior "Brand X".

  • did the they have tv back then?

  • this was shown in cinemas

  • double the money back? back then double the money was probably 50 cents

  • "just ask your dealer."

i can just imagine a guy in an alley with some dreft for sale.

  • {"pssst... Wanna score some Dreft?"}

  • Dreft was the first synthetic detergent developed in the U.S., in 1933. Procter & Gamble marketed it as a dishwashing detergent and as a detergent for fine fabrics until the late '50s. At one point it was pink ("looks like a lotion--makes water feel like a lotion"), but it was reformulated in 1962 as GERMASEPTIC Dreft ("better than boiling to help prevent diaper rash.") It has been considered a baby laundery detergent ever since.

  • we'll find her in the kitchen. hah.

  • Procter & Gamble, the makers of "Dreft", were already thinking about TV advertising, even in this early stage of "exploitation" in movie theaters. This ad really isn't so different from a 1951 "Dreft" commercial created for and seen on "THE BEULAH SHOW". The only slight difference was the jingle used- "No wash, no wipe, tonight!".

  • "Here we are- it's the Back Door for us!"

    lol

  • I still use Dreft! Only now it's to wash babies clothing.

  • haha that's awesome

  • Why was there a picture of a dress on the box?

  • i'll eat five boxes

  • I'll take 5 boxes.
