  • How exciting. I love to communicate wherever I go. Haven't tried bicycle yet.

  • @NZ7Bqrp I have done it before on 6 meter, 2 meter, and 70 centimeter FM. My setup was simply a magnetic mount antenna on the rear fork of a bicycle and a Yaesu VX-5 running off of its internal battery. With the solar cycle ramping up it might be a good idea to try working the HF high bands from a bicycle as well. I could only do 10 meter SSB due to the limitations of my license class at this time.

  • Oldskool milspec hfpack for the win... Go to hfpack to join the nets.

  • Im gonna make a good bet that most of the people seen here were bullied (alot) as children.

  • A small antena ? its like 5 m long o.O

  • @mrabuckten i agree. but ham radios are not cheap, and when the cellular infrastructure gets destroyed, they will save the world.

  • Dude's got some funky glasses

  • Man that was cool. :)

  • HAM Radio is a very cool technology. I remember there were people using it to call my BBS way before WiFi and cell phones. They're also the first people to make contact with areas devastated by natural or man made disasters.

  • at 1:34 ... to make it seem like youre even more of a loser lets wear a white mountain bike helmet at walking speeds...despite the fact you have something on your back from a bad sci fi movie.

  • @AVerbene Noting. What's wrong with you?

  • @matthewgutz Yeah, watch where you point that thing!

  • i live in dayton ohio

  • One thing though, when the power goes out so does your cell phone. With this, it doesn't matter if its armageddon, it will still work (as long as you have enough batteries).

  • Maybe (just maybe). I'll cruise down the bikeway- with a VX-170 on my belt (for the local repeater) , but these Dayton nerds are ridiculous (way too scenic)....HAHAHAHAHA

  • geektastic !

  • wow really what do u think yer guna have to call in air support too?

  • 0:38 Welcome to...the cellular phone.

  • 1- not probable , because it must be heavy as fuck

2- ugly , lol a antenna coming out of ur head

3- its called cellphone? idk if u knew but you can talk to people all over the world with a phone !@

  • @Thiaaguu Mobile phones are ok for those who like to speak to those who's number they already have- you can hardly just dial up a number and ask a stranger to chat! Ham radio can link you up with all sorts of new people- like an internet chat room except that you need a certain level of tec expertise to take part. The HAM's I know are all smart people with useful skills, whereas 80 percent of the folks you'll meet on the net know nothing, but spout opinion.

  • @auraofgloom that's why you have lesbian videos in your channel lol

  • @Thiaaguu

Need something fo when I'm not busy LOL

  • @auraofgloom LOLOOOOLOLOL !!

  • sweet

  • Meet your daddy, internet

  • ...And people are scared of cell phone radiation!

I'm kinda scared for these guys. Good thing these guys are old cuz it won't matter if they're sterile now. They should hurry up and teach what they know before the tumors kill them.

    But anyway... HAM is cool.

  • man..... theres a lot of nerds there haha

  • Yes you are! How you doin'~~!

  • I think you are the first woman I have ever seen that is into HAM radio. And I've met quite a few operators. Mostly older, slightly doughy white boys. :)

  • i bet that a can get more fishes with that antena than a fishing pool

i would just "call" them! hahahahaha

    aaaa got it?

    lol

  • I can walk around and talk to people all over the world on my CELL phone.

  • @UtRadioGuy

I'm there with you, but like someone else said, this saves lives, because, cell phones use cell phone towers, and when they're gone, there's no where your cell phone can contact to get a signal. Where as one of these, each person is an individual tower, I also think that each ham radio repeats someones signal, just like cell phone towers do.

But for going places with this thing? NO

I'm not that educated on radios so I wouldn't know any of the specific names of anything I said.

  • @UtRadioGuy And some of those cellery fones have more bells and whistles than ham radio rigs. And they don't cost anything near what some of those way over priced transceivers are, even used.

What really gets me is that RF exposure right there on the head, so near the brains and eyes! Even at QRP like a watt, RF can still do harm so close to the head. RF exposure is in the tech exam for the FCC license, they should KNOW BETTER! A UHF HT at 5 watts is not good either, UHF RF in the eyes!

  • @UtRadioGuy So what do you do, call random numbers from around the world?

Besides that costs money. Once you buy your radio, you don't have to pay for anything else.

  • why

  • Man I want one of those on my back :D

  • Are HAM Radios sold by the pound?

  • thats cool

  • wow thats cool

  • Looks cool. But I think these things are very expencive aren´t they.

  • @TheGermanGuy91 Hams are cheap, so don't bet on it.

  • @BeeRich33 not really

  • @xmaddict mmmmm, yes. I've been doing this for some time, in several countries.

  • those would make good fishing poles :P

  • thats kinda cool!!!!!

  • Seems like a cool hobby!

  • @niiidar It really is. You can meet some cool people over the air.

All you have to do is get a license (which is really easy), and buy a radio.

You can start out cheap for around $100 for a hand held.

    73, KC0GQT

  • wow lolol

  • Why didn't you get an interview with the 2kW backpack portable guy?!

  • OMG NERD CONVENTION!

  • the guy on the wheel chair had the attena between his legs

  • u could sword fight with those

  • Oh man! I live 10 min from there I could have met some of the makers?!? Bummer...

  • if only they picked up internet...then they might be cool :P

  • @bman462 Ham radio operators have been doing wireless networking since the 70's-80's. Some have even integrated internet access a long time ago.

  • @rudyiking nice i might look into it, thx

  • web 0.5

  • i'm sorry but that's the stupidest shit i've ever seen

  • @jamesl1 Saves lives all over the world when there's no power. But then again, that would take education to know. Go get some.

  • @BeeRich33 So next time the power goes out, and your life needs saving, look for a geek with a ham radio on his back, you will be saved then.

  • @bottomlands The next time there is an emergency where you need reliable communications, amateur radio operators have several ways to save your pathetic ignorant ass. Look into it, you will learn something.

  • @BeeRich33

    m o b i l e p h o n e

  • @Theochineh D O R K: mobile phones rely on powered infrastructure, and they only can go so far. We can talk to South America with QRP (5 watts). Nice try.

  • @BeeRich33

yeah but how many people actually need to talk to south america.

for most people these serve absolutely no purpose

  • @Theochineh Every emergency crew, domestic or foreign, needs a communications system that's independent of power. You can't talk to anybody on your cell phone without power. Amateur radio rigs can reach any length. There is a huge difference. Hams back up police, rescue, emergency situations. We practice every year at Field Day, where we practice just that. YOUR safety depends on it. Canada's safety depends on it.

  • @Theochineh WiFi, BlueTooth, WiMax, cell phones (from analog to 3G), all come from this group of technologies. You'd be surprised how important and prevalent all of this is. Your cell phone is Fisher Price compared to these rigs.

  • @BeeRich33

the fact of the matter is i am a 16 year old living in london and i don't own a mobile phone and haven't done for a year. Being able to be contacted wherever you are is unhealthy and unnatural. Sure it can save lives on occasion but it doesn't weigh up for the risk of getting mugged. fisher price that.

  • @Theochineh Then move to a tree.

  • @Theochineh Ham radio isn't about the need to communicate, it's about becoming a better communicator.

  • @rudyiking

if you wanted to become a better communicator, go socialise with people in real life. That will help a lot more.

  • @Theochineh Unless you are very ritch, why would you want to waste your money talking for a long time on the phone?

  • Comment removed

  • talking for a prolonged period of time to people without being face to face is unhealthy anyway because people get used to not having to have proper conversations. I dont waste any money because i don't own a mobile phone

  • @BeeRich33 LOL, The only difference in this and your last comment is the addition of insults, and I'm the ignorant one?

  • @bottomlands LOL yes, because you obviously don't learn.

  • @BeeRich33 Not true, I've learned you have no facts to back up your claims, only insults.

  • @bottomlands LOL is that what you've learned? From whom? Get wise, man!

  • Except for the guy and his bike at 1:12, that was a boring vid.
