Just make lots of horse archers yourself combined with a general with good stats and you can counter them too be honest. The trick is to not get into a melee fight with them since they are all heavily upgraded, you need to shoot them all 1 by 1.
@SultanEzrail i don't think so, melee is good if you have capable cavalry to reinforce your infantry, however using archers is really good too so you got a good tactic there!
@dividednation44 diplomacy if you're rich bribe the stacks with no general, wait until they conquer a territory, that will divide them in all directions, pick them one by one, use a lot of good archers and heavy cavalry to protect archery, use the heaviest infantry you got and when the chance is given take out their general, first wipe out their missile cavalry wings with heavy cavalry, move archers and infantry forward. come around with cavalry and hit them in the rear! They will waver! haha

@dividednation44 Just raise two stacks, nothing crazy or big, and confront them the thing is you have to let them conquer a territory, that makes them split into every direction, divided they fall.Oh and remember before mongols come, always have a castle/fort/citadel with the best cavalry/infantry/archer/armour buildings, it helps a lot! And make sure that citadel is always near your capital in case mongols attack it first.

to defeat mongols is very easy ;) block riverpass and roads in mountain, to time when you can youse gunpowder. then buil artyllery towets in cities. when mongols attack the city, attack them before thrust. towers will shoot them, nevermind were they are standing ^^
they are superior in open battles, but lucky enough they aren't that strong in siege battles. There archerinfantry is mediocre in meelee and horses, especially horse archers aren't all that useful in a siege.
Also the AI sucks in sieges:D always bottlenecking himself
i killed off all the mongol armys before they attacked any citys i got the pop up saying the mongols are no more or whatever,then after about 4 turns they respawned in the same spot with a bigger army and kicked my ass.thats not fair.
Mongols aren't that hard to fight as long as you try to stay away from open battles. If the Mongols attack your city make sure you have archers, pikeman/spearmen, heavy infantry and cavalry and slaughter them as they come through the gates. Its also good to have elephant artillery in the best case scenario. Send a few units of those outside your gates in loose formation and you're laughing.

They need open plains (steppes, grasslands, deserts...) to form a superior army.
The only place in Europe that provided these conditions is Hungary, which was the ultimate border of their empire.
The Magyars, btw, another name for hungarians, descent from an early medieval mongol tribe called the magyars. thats why hungarian language is like no other in europe
@Magnum49r I'm not sure myself, but my favorite is Spain cause minus Portugal your basically all by yourself...plus you have a nice mountain range to the north to protect you from France. You get a nice range of unit through out the whole game. Last you can attack the Moors without having to worry about the pope getting ticked off at you. But that's just my opinion I not sure which faction is the best/easiest to be.
@Magnum49r play as venice, they're strategically shieled by papal states from sicilian land invasion, the weak hungarians often don;t declare war, shielded from france and western europe by milan (until you conquer it) and the byzantine empire conquest should be started south from corinth up. Easy even in hardest difficulty
@SultanEzrail Egypt is annihilated easily by the mongolians...The Turks end up with 1 or 2 provinces left, ,the Byzantine empire loses all eastern provinces and the crusaders lose (again) Jerusalem....Then after a few possibly failed crusades and jihads to constantinople, the Timurids arrive...Then you just say HOLY SHIT but there is no god to help you...:)

I'm sorry but i met mongols on a crusade once they attacked me open field twice on hard difficulty aginst same character and beat them both times. i played as English and all i had to do was use the longbowmen. They dont really seem that powerful to me, havent yet fought the timurids

Got a bit of a cold war thing going on with the mongols. Im Egypt, and they are sitting in the area above Baghdad in those mountains, my troops are to far spread to fight them directly so i have heavily fortified the towns around them. And they are just walking about. Hopefully i can build the strength to beat them, further expansion if difficult while they are there.

Actually the Mongols were defeated in Japan and forced to retreat twice ... they sustained overwhelming casualties and never tried to mount an assault on Japan ever since ...
Hehe ... not really ... the second time the Japanese had already succeeded in halting them and held them off for several days before the kamikaze event actually took place ... The fisrt time there was hardly any battle fought ... The kamikaze severed the Mongol fleet ... whatever survived the Tornado was annihilated by the Japanese Samurai the Mongol Infantry had never been trained for extensive hand to hand combat so they were kind of massacred .

well dont play as europe if u know how to play the game a bit. i always take ottoman infantry/jannisary archers and for a big circle with spikes. i hide my nafs in it and all i need besides that are some decent cavalary/2 horse archers. thats how i defeated the mongol army in open field and i killed 3 five start generals:P u should give it a try. i like mongolian history so i pretty much knew how to handle them and for the timurs i have an video for it

Not if you are prepared with a giant army. I barely won because I didmt see them coming but luckily I was rich and controlled almost everywhere. they arrive late in the game but make sure you have a large army to greet them.

that's something new, i never knew Hullegu was captured by the Egyptians. He retreated.
but the Egyptians were great fighters. Malmak are great fighters. and it's a great achievement they did, beating the mongols.
they aren't so invincible after all.

well yes, thats why mongol empire was shattered , because of the death of their leader, and yes Egyptian Army fought in many historcial eras .. and was the first defender of the middle east area .. and also it was the Egyptian army who drove out the crusaders .. and defeated all of their campaigns and drove them out , from siege of jerusalem to crusader campaign on the northern egypt when egyptians Captured the french king Louis .. and until the Egyptian Victory over mongols too,

hard? hahahaa! you dont need to worry. I have destroyed those many times ( i was The Turks ) man i destroyed those and afterwards the timurids too. They are easy if you are good at this games. Lucky europeans. :P. Anyway the mongols like more muslims than christians so if they start in russia i say bye bye russia,poland,hungary.

well dont play as europe if u know how to play the game a bit. i always take ottoman infantry/jannisary archers and for a big circle with spikes. i hide my nafs in it and all i need besides that are some decent cavalary/2 horse archers. thats how i defeated the mongol army in open field and i killed 3 five start generals:P u should give it a try. i like mongolian history so i pretty much knew how to handle them and for the timurs i have an video for it

hmm...the map..is the old world map((europe,some of russia,north africa..till iraq))
mostly the mongols arrive to baghdad and the timiruds arrive at russia
if u have expanded enough andhave a strong armies ...u will mach them..if not..they will eat u allive lol

Not if you are prepared with a giant army. I barely won because I didmt see them coming but luckily I was rich and controlled almost everywhere. they arrive late in the game but make sure you have a large army to greet them.
