Never stop questioning authority and always go against the current ... for the better of the majority if possible. I am not a LIBERAL ... but I know bullshit when I smell it in our military, religions and government.
"I didn't give a shit. It's important in life to not give a shit, it can help you a lot. Sooo I didn't give a shit..." Lol that made my day. George Carlin is more like a political philosopher than a comedian
Agreed - one of our most honest comedians - I think Louis CK is one of our current honest comedians, but on a smaller scale. Obviously Carlin dealt with bigger issues.
Geroge Carlin was a brilliant comedian, who's specialty was A)Spotting contradictions in human behavior and society and B)Poking fun at inconsistencies in the way we express ourselves thru language, words and phrases. He was also a harsh social critic and he was an "Equal opportunity offender"---He took no political sides and supported no causes. I miss his brutal honesty and his hilarious cynicism.
I love Carlin and consider him one of the best comedians ever and certainly one of the most articulate individuals America has ever seen. But let's not get carried away. Carlin wouldn't be on youtube without all the "bad" things and "terrible humans" he complains about in his comedy. This world, including carlin, is a product of the "good" and the "bad" we humans have created and continue to do so. There's no contradiction there, it's just a process that eventually will lead to our demise.
about his comment about perception-altering drugs; A brave New World changed my perception more than pot or psychedelics. Aldous Huxley is a monument for powerful ideas, just like Carlin although he down played himself in this interview.
thats awesome how he said marijuana and hallucinogens had a huge influence on his perception, cuz i totally know what he means. So my new religion is carlinism so if anybody wants to join you just have to take lsd for 3 days straight. actually he is the closest thing to a prophet that i've ever known or maybe not a prophet and just a man with common sense and a ability to look at fucked up shit and be able to laugh about it. RIP
@cyclotane The world is too insidious, cold, and ruthless to give a shit. This humanitarian thing we developed is nice and all along with this 'we are one' idea but nothings really change and many people (especially those in power) are just as heartless and uncaring as before. Same stuff wrapped in new plastic. Call me negative if you may. I will change my attitude when I actually see some 'humanity' in humans as a whole.
It's a little bit hard to me to translate all what you say here but, you taught me a lot of very important things for my life and I'm following your advices 'cause I know they are my right way... and, we'll never forget you, Georgie...
I can't imagine how dumb we has become. Look and listen at Mr. Carlin, he shows a great example of Self-realization. He realized that he can be more than just another number, more than just another student in the school, more than just another pothead. He used all of what he's gone through to make an art. He breaked the rules because it is us who made this stupid rules. They only want to control you. He realized what he can do.
So why are we all here arguing? Do something guys.Stop shopping etc
Classic interview, it was all up on youtube, so naturally some dickhead had to notice and delete it all so we're left only with clips. I wish there was some way to give a video a kind of tenure; if it reaches a mark of a certain amount of views and/or thumbs up it can't be deleted by anyone.

Wow.. If you dont know who this wonderful brillant man is then maybe you should go jump off a bridge. What a douche.. Never heard of the 7 dirty words you cant say on television? Wow.. IM appalled.
LOL...what an old fart.....not funny at all...i hate these old ancient farts trying their ancient acts that worked 70 years ago. Go dig yourself into the grave all ready! Wowl, he was a big star 170 years ago...wow. Seriously, any of you guys ever heard of this guy?
through out history there have been many important people in life. But this man was not just a comedian, but a philosopher. I look up to him more than my dad.
Pure genius. If you like intellectual stimulation from counter-culture shit-disturbers like George, you'll also want to check out lectures by Robert Anton Wilson, Alan Watts, William Burroughs, Terrance McKenna, etc. They're right here on Youtube. Wilson's books are unbelievable.
These are great lessons... it's very important to understand that you constantly reinventing yourself and expressing who you really are. Though I'll miss him, he has left an imprint in my imagination that can't be squandered. It's crazy how much crap we race to and once you take a dime of your time to watch from an observing role... the races are only a gamble to say you've placed bets well or poorly. Maybe the tracks, circular (generation to gen.), aren't as important as the road less traveled.
Many Thanks to my colleague in Denver for introducing this great 'old fuck' to me (people from India don't know the George Carlins of this world). The guy has changed my thought and perspective. Many people can't still accept me, but atleast I like myself now. Frankly, I don't want another Carlin to be born. He is too good to be duplicated.
@chandrasekhar200 George Carlin and Bill Hicks are those kind of personalities that come around and CHANGE the generations to come. Yes they're will be new George Carlins and Hicks's but they will be echoes of influence. We look at these immortal souls and see pieces of ourselves in them. Do not seek to follow the footsteps of the wise seek what they sought.
Carlin was my childhood hero. Listening at 10 years old to the seven words, and the confessional. I had one honor to sit in Dover, Delaware in the middle of my junior year of high school to go see him and I did. It was mesmorizing. He is the best in his field ever, many make the argument that Pryor was better. In reality they were both equal in their own rights and the both were dear friends. Comedians today cannot hold a candle to what they brought to the stage.
I had the great pleasure of seeing him live a year before he died. Now without George we are one less truth tell and more billions of phonies and bullshitters.
i love george carlin but i hate that people follow his example, this man is a genius, far beyond his years in wisdom and understanding, he says things that rock people to their very core all the time. most people aren't even a quarter as smart as he is. so when i hear people say they want to live and be just like carlin most are setting themselves up for failure . this man was not like most of us , people bullshit now more than ever and he typicall didn't bullshit at all.
I'm truly grateful for George. I first listened to his "You're All Diseased" album in Middle School 8 or 9 years ago. He was the first person to open my mind and make me ask questions. Through Carlin, I discovered my Atheism at a very young age. A man with a message, unbelievable stand-up presence, and a pioneer to stand-up in general. We miss you George... R.I.P.
Very deep starting at 5:15 about his self realization and how he didn't fit and was different... at that time he stopped doing things to please EVERYONE ELSE and started doing this to please himself....wise, but dangerous words
I'm a comic, and months ago, I did (IMHO) a brilliant joke that bashes religion, namely Catholics (I grew up Catholic). It was harsh, but funny. But my mistake was that I did it in a smallish city in Nebraska, right in the Bible belt. There was about a 45sec long "OOH!!" Comics know that 45sec feels years when you're not speaking. That was halfway through my 15 minutes, then the crowd went cold. That was my revelation that it's okay to stray from the pack. It's just location, location, location!
I always find it interesting that most people who are against anything have never engaged in what they're against; or never really gave it a chance. I've drank and smoked pot. I don't anymore, but the very experience changes your view because being drunk or high isn't what you'd think it would be like prior to the experience. Same with sex, breaking a bone, or any experience that alters what you normally think and feel it will by default change your attitude and perception.
@Domenikan86 Well, its cuz drugs we have a bit of control on. It's like all these large corporations, you can hate them all you want but they'll always be in power. However, a guy like this talking about weed people catch on cuz its something they relate to. You can smoke a joint if you want, even if its illegal, but try telling a bank you don't want them there... they'll never leave. Not sure if what I said made any sense, but worth a type.
Does Carlin ever go into depth about "It's important in life to not give a shit. It could help a lot" ?
I know he said in another interview "it's the story you get in society - well he had a good mind and he didn't use it - you have a good midn George and you're not using it. And we begin to believe that shit, cause we're blank slates basically inside."
It's a large puzzle, but I suppose it has something to do with society being the product of generation upon generation of grade A bullshit, and how far from the mark the values it espouses really are from what humans really need. Hence, not giving a shit about the things you are told you should care about and enjoying the ride in your own way.
Terrific interview. Honest question, and I know I'll sound like an arrogant ahole saying, it but so be it.People used to refer to me as being supposedly hilarious. And whether or not this was a legitimate attribution I could make people laugh hard. Then I got diagnosed with depression and im an unfunny stupid mindnumbed Prozac robot If I took pot, would it make me have at least a remote sense of humor or just make everything seem funny?
i think a lot of our great comedians had depression, carlin talks about many of them that died. Pewopel use drugs for many reasons, some is to make you feel better. even your DOCTOR will give you drugs to make you feel better (but theirs dont work)
Pot would allow your mind to wander which would lead to imaginative and creative thoughts which could lead to sparks of humor leading to conflagrations of comedic ideas.
Yo Thegunclub123 if your for real, Pot would make your depression worse off, IMHO
But Pot can lead to some situations that are fucking hilarious times :D I've been smoking marijuana on/off for a few years now and it's made me alot more hmm, outgoing? lol i just crack some funny ass jokes/sayings/random shit heh even when i'm not stoned.
I'm a writer and an artist, and I can tell you that when I finally started taking anti-depressants to combat my persistent depression, my creativity went out the window. I was like a zombie. I finally stopped taking the prozac and started smoking pot every day... honestly, I'm back to my old self and my depression is for the most part under control. Weed is actually very useful for self-medicating depression.
@meekerbeeker, it's what I use as well. I also use it for my stomach as I had cancer this past year and NEEDED IT for chemo therapy. I would have died without marijuana, by starvation and malnutrition.
I was taking welbutrin for depression,, it seemed to work okay, but nothing spectacular. I won't say THC is the answer any more than zoloft or welbutrin. But it has worked for many people and shouldn't be ignored.
Don't blame the uniform. Uniform is just a part of military, like guns, tanks, jets. They are all the same, so what? It's the idea, to make everyone alike, which is sick, not the uniform.
@Rhythmmm123 It's so true. LSD has changed me for the better. I don't do it regularly. Maybe 3-4 times a year. I just see things differently on acid. The great thing is, when the acid wears off I still maintain those views I've discovered. It's not some illusion. LSD is the thinking man's drug.
Psychedelics in general are more associated with intellectuals...the Beat generation, the civil rights movement and so on. LSD is probably the best known but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had some unimaginable experiences with "magic" mushrooms, DMT, and so on. Hell, even Ecstasy in the right situation can be incredible...any time I ever used E I'd take it with one, maybe two CLOSE friends and every time our friendship moved ahead by years in a few hours...most use it at parties though
HAHAH yes looks CREEPY but I think it's just the encoding...looks like he had eyes painted on his eyelids or something, I've seen that before on youtube.
The realest man to be heard ever. A man that would make you laugh at the truth and give you true wisdom in every show. R.I.P George and Bernie Mac. What do you think they would say to each other in heven?
my only regret is that i didnt stick around to get an autograph, or shake the man's hand. I saw George in 05-06'? in Baltimore...my date didnt get the jokes, and wanted to leave before traffic got bad(what a waste!)...Im very lucky that i got to see him live... ive still got the "2443 filthy words and phrases" poster on my wall...im still amazed at how many people dont watch/listen to george carlin stuff regularly! The man was a genius! fuck 911, ill never forget George Carlin!

Ballerboi17171234 1 year ago

He is too good to be duplicated.
chandrasekhar200 1 year ago 70

George Carlin was a genius. People should really listen to him -- he says out loud what needs to be done, even now.
george86FR 1 year ago
i love george carlin but i hate that people follow his example, this man is a genius, far beyond his years in wisdom and understanding, he says things that rock people to their very core all the time. most people aren't even a quarter as smart as he is. so when i hear people say they want to live and be just like carlin most are setting themselves up for failure . this man was not like most of us , people bullshit now more than ever and he typicall didn't bullshit at all.
mariopot789 1 year ago
I'm truly grateful for George. I first listened to his "You're All Diseased" album in Middle School 8 or 9 years ago. He was the first person to open my mind and make me ask questions. Through Carlin, I discovered my Atheism at a very young age. A man with a message, unbelievable stand-up presence, and a pioneer to stand-up in general. We miss you George... R.I.P.

Geez all of the important things he said and all you guys got out of it was the drug part.. how small-minded.
Domenikan86 1 year ago 78

I must know what he knows.
MrNotaustin 1 year ago
It's a large puzzle, but I suppose it has something to do with society being the product of generation upon generation of grade A bullshit, and how far from the mark the values it espouses really are from what humans really need. Hence, not giving a shit about the things you are told you should care about and enjoying the ride in your own way.

Terrific interview. Honest question, and I know I'll sound like an arrogant ahole saying, it but so be it.People used to refer to me as being supposedly hilarious. And whether or not this was a legitimate attribution I could make people laugh hard. Then I got diagnosed with depression and im an unfunny stupid mindnumbed Prozac robot If I took pot, would it make me have at least a remote sense of humor or just make everything seem funny?
thegunclub123 2 years ago
i think a lot of our great comedians had depression, carlin talks about many of them that died. Pewopel use drugs for many reasons, some is to make you feel better. even your DOCTOR will give you drugs to make you feel better (but theirs dont work)
HorrorAngel666 2 years ago
thegunclub123: pot doesent make you funny, it's just the people that do pot who thinks there funny.
DrowningArt94 2 years ago
Pot can make you funny. Can being the keyword.
You just tried to call an absolute. Drugs have NO absolutes.
dudejohnny 1 year ago 4
Pot would allow your mind to wander which would lead to imaginative and creative thoughts which could lead to sparks of humor leading to conflagrations of comedic ideas.
Slowsilvers7ms 1 year ago 5
Yo Thegunclub123 if your for real, Pot would make your depression worse off, IMHO
But Pot can lead to some situations that are fucking hilarious times :D I've been smoking marijuana on/off for a few years now and it's made me alot more hmm, outgoing? lol i just crack some funny ass jokes/sayings/random shit heh even when i'm not stoned.
But yeah don't try this at home kids!
so stoned. =D
AD1255 1 year ago
I'm a writer and an artist, and I can tell you that when I finally started taking anti-depressants to combat my persistent depression, my creativity went out the window. I was like a zombie. I finally stopped taking the prozac and started smoking pot every day... honestly, I'm back to my old self and my depression is for the most part under control. Weed is actually very useful for self-medicating depression.
meekerbeeker 1 year ago 28
right on dude x
TheFreemanuk 1 year ago
@meekerbeeker, it's what I use as well. I also use it for my stomach as I had cancer this past year and NEEDED IT for chemo therapy. I would have died without marijuana, by starvation and malnutrition.
I was taking welbutrin for depression,, it seemed to work okay, but nothing spectacular. I won't say THC is the answer any more than zoloft or welbutrin. But it has worked for many people and shouldn't be ignored.
hoboboxerjoe 1 year ago 4
Something similar happened to me, except without the drugs. I just ate hella butterscotch krimpets, and I was back to my old creative self.

LSD is the thinking man's drug.
tehrapeyturtle 1 year ago 7
Psychedelics in general are more associated with intellectuals...the Beat generation, the civil rights movement and so on. LSD is probably the best known but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had some unimaginable experiences with "magic" mushrooms, DMT, and so on. Hell, even Ecstasy in the right situation can be incredible...any time I ever used E I'd take it with one, maybe two CLOSE friends and every time our friendship moved ahead by years in a few hours...most use it at parties though

what is up with his eyes? he seems possesed when i look at the start of this film. could this have caused his early death?
George Carlin is one of the few american celebrities i have great respect for. He taught people to question things, which i value the most.
