@ham91185 major difference actually. It is now a deep dark red color. In fact, the two monitors created light spots where the wood is still the original color, lol. Guess I won't be moving them any time soon. :)
@jfg1517 Perfect actually. My wife puts her feet up on the rails all the time when she's at the computer. I have been waiting to see some separation at the joint but nothing yet. And the legs are also holding up great. So far so good.
This video series is just fantastic, great insight into the design and building process, magnificent tools. It's great seeing how other people do things. Thank you for posting!
This looks fantastic. I am planning to get a japanese style 3 + 2 sofa set... minimalistic yet functional design. I was wondering if I could build it myself and save myself thousands of rupees .. but my wife thinks otherwise :)
Great job but I was disappointed to know that you made it for your computer, I think it should be a dining table or any other functions. Also in that case why not to cover/case you monitor and motherboard of your computer with mahogany wood.
I'm so jealous, so many tools and working space you have! And festool isn't cheap either. The trestle table look mega pro. btw, which server do you play on?
I've been watching and enjoying your videos for a while now, I'm a woodworker myself in the UK and my plan is to have a workshop set up for myself in the future, just wondering how you got to your position you are now.
There's no way I could afford anything like your set up right now, how did you start off, and gradually build to that extent financially?
@jc251087 Hey there. The About page on our website pretty much tells the whole tale. Just look for the About link at the bottom of the home page. You can get to the website by clicking the link in the description of this video. Thanks for your interest!
Excellent series...the desk turned out anazing. Been a long time follower (years) on itunes and YouTube and have even caught some of your live shows in the past. Love your work and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Also your video's are very entertaining and well edited. Keep up the great work.
Btw, Now that you have a beautiful desk you need to dress up those TT Armor cases....lol. if you ever get the chance take a look a what I can do to those cases, search Black Widow on my channel
@WestCoastMods Oh man you do some hardcore mods dude! I think I may be spending some time on your page. Not sure if I'll ever do a mod myself but I really enjoy watching it. Thanks for sharing!
@TheWoodWhisperer Thanks Mark, I know you are very busy, but if you every need to an idea for a project, why not combine your love for woodworking and your need for a computer and make a PC case from wood. I have seen others do this and like any other well crafted piece of art, they fit in just like a piece of finely made furniture. And with you skills I have no doubt that you could make one baddass wooden PC case. just a thought.
Excellent video, Marc! Thanks for posting this whole project. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! We'll be waiting for the next vid... keep 'em coming!
A question: Approx how much cash you have in the wood? Looks to be quite a lot, but like you mentioned it will last a life time and be a hand down for many generations. Going to order your dvd on wiping varnish, looks like a good way to go, what type of ventlation system do you use?
It would be nice to see you get a TV show on PBS and take Norm's New Yankee Workshop spot, your work is very good.
Thanks for posting have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
@dav1099 Actually, I over-purchased on this project because I couldn't make up my mind about what thickness I was going to use. But if you feel like doing a little math, the wood was $8-$9/bf. As for ventilation, i just open the garage door. :)
BTW1, You probably know him, but check on Matthiaswandel here on youtube. The guy makes his own tools, and the last one in particular is fantastic! You are a genious artist, and the guy is a like genious "engineer". I love you both in diferent ways ;)
@morturn I have used them in the past and they work well. But i can get similar results with just a damp rag. Some folks also become concerned about the tack cloth contaminating the finish. Not sure how often that really happens but its something to consider.
@TheWoodWhisperer Yes I do understand this concern; however firstly, a tack cloth should not leave any residue on the surface. Secondly what I do is make the tack cloth from the material I am finishing with. For example damp the cloth with some of the thinner recommended for the finish, wring it completely dry, then place the rag out and drip varnish all over the surface, roll it up and wring it, knead it to spread the varnish around until its uniformly spread. It should be sticky.
Just in time for my evening off! Watching these is so much better than watching a movie. I've never done any real woodworking myself, but I'm an absolute perfectionist, so watching this is just great!
Great project Marc! Thank you for posting it to youtube. You've inspired me to become a guild member as soon as I can. BTW-Any thoughts on using micro-fiber cloth for removing sanding dust rather than a damp rag?
A video well made, an excellent result and very educational. Thank you very much for that. Please thank Nicole for volunteering to help you flip the table, but please, for reasons of personal safety, be sure to wear your safety glasses and hide behind the couch when you do so.
