@YureinoFANS They were a little sore after the surgery, but that went away quickly. As far as the dryness goes, I notice it sometimes in the mornings. Otherwise, it's fine.
:) No scalpels on my surgery. 100% laser. I wouldn't let a scalpel touch my eye. Would freak me out.
Today I have lasik. -6 My right eye, my left eye was -5.5. Operation is finished, my world has changed in a moment I witnessed. I can see for myself I feel great! When I came home because of his stinging slept, I woke up everything was fine. for my glasses when I wake up:) then I realized that I do not need him anymore! Still no glasses when I could not get used to live:) I feel emptiness. Your world is changing at a time, an incredible feeling!
Can I see anything? I still see 20/20... I'm not sure what your mom means. Not every eye doctor can perform the surgery--you have to go to a laser eye clinic. Not every person can get the surgery. I was borderline... My eyesight and pupil size were factored in. Best bet is to find a reputable laser eye clinic and just go talk to them. They can tell you if you're a good candidate for the surgery.
Oops--hit "remove" instead of reply. I don't remember being able to see the laser. They just have you stare at a target right in front of you for the whole thing.
How old were you when you got your Lasik eye surgery? My mom says I shouldn't get it until around 21-ish. I have myopia and I hope lasik can fix it. I'm terribly blind w/o my glasses and I think life would be a lot easier w/o them.
I think I was about 29 when I had mine done. You should definitely wait till your prescription evens out. From what I was told, it's basically like starting over, so if your eyes get worse every year, they'll still do that after the surgery. Wait till they stop getting worse, and then get it done. Definitely worth the money!!!
1.) No, it didn't hurt at all. A little discomfort and dry-eye for a few days following the surgery, but nothing major.
2.) I drove 600 miles two days after my surgery. You could probably go to school the next day, but I'd take a day off just to rest up.
5.) Yes, you're awake. They numb your eyes though.
4.) Wait till your prescription levels out. If your eyes keep getting worse each year you go to the eye doc, then wait till you have a year or so where they don't get worse.
ok thank you! what do you mean by perscription levels out? I have lazy eye would this work for me? and on my left eye(lazy eye) I have like 4.25 and on my right i think its 3.50 or something.
My vision kept getting worse every year until I was about 21 or so. Then it "leveled out" and stayed pretty much the same for years. Your best bet would be to talk to your eye doc, or a reputable LASIK center. They'll tell you if you're a good candidate for the surgery or not. I was borderline because my eyes were so bad. Find a good one though--don't go cheap when it comes to your eyes. Not sure about the lazy eye... My dad got his fixed somehow, but it wasn't with LASIK.
The way it was explained to me is that after the surgery, you're back at ground zero as far as eyesight goes. So it's possible that your eyesight will get worse with age, but it would've done that without the surgery as well. It's like getting a fresh start. Since my prescription has stayed the same for the past 10 years, it's likely that I'll see this well for quite a long time. If I suddenly need glasses at age 60, I'll still consider LASIK a good investment. :)

YouTube: FDA LASIK and watch and listen to the estimated 600,000 ruined lives!!!
It also treats the surface of the cornea but unlike other techniques, requires no assistance from manual surgical instruments. It is the only technique to use exclusively the Excimer Laser from start to finish.
The FDA has had such an overwhelming response of "hurt lasik patients" complaining in mass numbers, that they sense something is wrong. Thus, they are now having an Emergency FDA Panel Discussion in Chicago, IL in April, 2008. Google: ASCRS FDA Lasik Chicago April 2008.
It's weird... You can see them doing stuff, and sort of feel the pressure, but you can't actually feel them touching anything. It was completely painless.
Lasik is the WORST known procedure than anyone can do to a cornea. The Lying Lasik Doctors make you sign a INFORMED CONSENT FORM so you can't sue them. It protects the doctors and SCREWS the patient who is paying these ass....s to look out for the patient not their wallets. The FLAP is a permanent scar on your cornea, accelerates dry eye and ectasia, and there is NO KNOWN CURE. Google: lasikflap, lifeafterlasik, lasik suicides, lasik lies, lasik lawsuits.
Uhhh... No offense, but the LASIK surgery is the BEST thing I've ever done. The dry eye is no big deal, and if there is a permanent scar on my cornea, I don't notice it. I like seeing opposing opinions, but using the phrase "WORST known procedure" is a little over-dramatic. I can think of other procedures that are far worse.
chaput87, so I don't have much to worry about it? I had it done three days ago, and I am freaking out with all the horror stories on the internet. I had a certified doctor who has fellowships and everything. I did it at LASIKPlus Vision Centers in Atlanta, GA. I won't go blind in the future will I? I think he said my diops were 6. I was pretty near sighted. Can anyone make me feel better!?
No, you'll be fine. I have to say..it is an experience but I am doing AOK!
The night Halo's go away after about 3-4 weeks and I have to say that my vision is GREAT.
I have about 1 more month to go till "full healing" and the only thing i notice is a VERY slight variation in vision when looking to my left where the flap cut was made. It will prob go away though.
chaput, did you have slight blurriness at first, and did it clear up? For instance, I can sit here on my Macbook Pro, and I can see and read the letters even though there is just a slight bit of fuzziness. It's not crisp, but readable. When will this start going away? Is that normal for the first four days or so? Other than that, I see everything else perfectly.
I'm going on three years since my LASIK, and it's still the best thing I've ever done. Still 20-20 vision, no night halos. I do remember it taking a few days for everything to completely clear up though. So no worries.
Thanx. I needed that. I'm sure you've seen all the LASIK horror stories on the internet. After all I've read, I'm glad I used the Excimer, VISX laser. :)
pdxsurreal, yeah, it has taken a few days for me to heal and all. My left eye feels better than my right eye, but my right eye is clearer than my left eye. All in all, I can see good, but I am just a little nervous. I mean, these are two very important organs, you know? :)
Yup, absolutely. I had a bit of trouble with focusing for the first month.
The muscle memory in my eyes had been trained for years to focus one way and then my vision was altered and it had to get used to focusing differently.
Close up vision is definately affected though. I notice I can't get things as close as I used to be able to. I have to keep things 1-2 inches away to focus on them when I was able to have objects < 1" away before. No big deal.
That's what it is! That's it exactly! I'm having to get use to what I see with these new eyes. Before, without my glasses, I only saw hazy, fuzzy stuff. I couldn't even see the clock across the room or look for the keys. Anything. Now, I can see everything, but I'm having to orient myself to this new way of seeing. :)

One question, how do they "numb your eyes" ??
Steph902 3 years ago
With eye drops. They work great.

i have like 3 or 4 questions:
does it hurt?
would you be able to go to school the next day?
would you be awake while they're doing the surgery?
what age would you get the surgery?
